like dave has stated it's an added enjoyment to the overall hunting aspect. With that in mind, I do operate on a budget and all the habitat work and hunting is secondary to my family responsibilites. Some people spend money on vacations, I spend it on habitat improvements. I'm a land owner so all my work will be enjoyed by my kids and my brothers kids(i hope lol). But to get back to your question of diminishing returns...that depends on how you value that? I don't expect to kill a mature buck every year but expect to have the opportunity to and that's how I gage return on my habitat work. I can shoot a yearly 10 times over every year but Im looking to harvest mature deer. some years I wonder is it all worth it and honestly It is. I enjoy being on the tractor, dozer etc...I'm a man for christ sake lol.

Productive weekend-plots and other work

99.99% of my plots are nutritional plots. Also, the pictures make them bigger than they look. Most of the plots are an acre to 2 acre plots besides the corn. I started managing my land in 2005 and since then we never shot a buck in those plots. We hunt the woods between the bedding and food. The last mature buck i took on the farm was 2006. Since, the season is opening October 1st, we have a good chance of seeing a mature buck in those fields during legal hunting hours. -

Sunrises are nice. Pav, its about 30-34 inches deep. It's just a watering source for the wildlife. -

prepping for brassica and trails. -
Had a great extented weekend with my dad and brothers at the farm. We prep and planted 2 acres of brassica with 60lbs of N, put in a pond, put in some trails, fixed some tubes on 2yr old oaks and watered the melon and pumkins. Also, here are some pictures of some plots. They are doing ok even with the lack of rain but we need it bad. The clover plot was planted last fall, this spring I sprayed it with a low dose of gly to kill the rye grass. It's doing ok even with the lack of rain. Did get 20 min rain this morning but not enough.

NY DEC 2012 Deer and Bear Hunting Seasons Announced
SplitG2 replied to HuntingNY's topic in NYS DEC News and Annoucements
sounds good! September 8th I will be Hitting NJ and October 1st NY! -
yep its updated!
-
my other option is to build one myself. Going to spec out the cost and compare.

I understand the failing point but this isn't baseball or football etc. A youth hunt doesn't guarantee them a deer. It allows their parent or such to focus on their kids hunt and not there own. I would sacrifice my whole hunting season for my kids hunt.
-
im ok with the youth hunt.
-
other brands are even more money.
