  5. for all you farmers or large food plotters, here is a source for fertilizer. http://newenglandorganics.com/
  6. Doc, it's very hard to have a concrete formula? We are dealing with wild free ranging deer. Deer density changes all the time throughout the year. Deer managers usually like to have 5-10% of their land in food plots. It's just a guidline. Another factor is native browse. Like you mentioned in an earlier post, deer have a multi chamber stomach and are browsers. They eat many things. Like most have stated, start small, chart your data and make decisions based off of that. I have a 25 acre field that was all golden rod and I broke it up. I will try and post a picture of what i did.
  7. Off to a great start! Keep us updated.
  8. that's cheap! are the beans rr?

  11. I have mine in a case but you can hang it too. When I do hang my bow, i don't hang it by the string.
  12. agreed, if it is handled the right way. This guy said he didn't know it was ilegal, apologized and removed it but the bashing still went on.
  13. so why don't the moderators on this site delete threads showing illegal activity? You are the "police" of the forum.
  14. Culv, I'm not saying illegal things are ok, I just think this guy got his lumps and that should be the end of it. I walk a pretty straight line in life but do wonder off the line time to time. ie talking on cell phones while driving etc... DEC states no salt blocks or mineral blocks can be used at anytime but what if someone doesn't use a block but makes their own mix using granular material? Would they get ticketed? Probably yes, but they also might win in court? A lawyer would have a field day with it, no? What determines a block? Is this being silly? maybe? Just a thought.
  15. I thought this thread was fading off into the sunset......I guess not.
  16. Grow, it never ends. Can't wait to see pictures.
  17. also it depends on how many acres you have? what your are plantng? Deer density ect...Most people who plant food plots are planting kill plots less than an acre. An acre of one thing doesnt equal another acre of something else. For example, an acre of winter wheat has less tonage of food than an acre of clover and an acre of brassica has more tonage than clover. Utilization cages put on foot plots will help the plotter know if he/she needs to expand the plot.
  18. Doc, I have to make that decision every year? Last year I planted 10 acres of soybeans and with this past mild winter, there was alot of beans left come spring. I'm not a farmer but habitat management on my property is practiced. I don't plant kill plots per say, they are all nutritional plots. Do I go over board? maybe? but when it's a bad winter, the animals love my 10 acres of corn, 10 acres of soybeans, 2 acres of brassica, 2 acres of clover, and 2 acres of wr/oats. At this stage of my life, habitat management is another enjoyment besides hunting.
