  1. you are correct, it wasn't until 82 when Joe invited Al to be a keynote speaker in his south corilina branch which we all know now to be QDMA.
  2. Joe, QDM in Texas in the 50's? I thought it was TDM and Joe Hamilton was brought in to help? It wasn;t later that Joe swayed towards QDM. Grant Woods does alot more than put stock into bigger food plots, just look at how small his plots are on Growing Deer TV. You are right about QDM has taken a turn towards big bucks and plots but true QDM guys still see the big picture.
  3. G-man, can't beat a p&y every year! We only have 100 acres with brown and down neighbors but just to see them on camera is success for me.
  4. I had a point restriction because the guys who hunt my place had hard time judging on the hoof so by default we had ar. Now they are getting better aging on the hoof(trial cam pictures help). We put together a hit list prior to the season but they all have the green light to determine what's 3 1/2 or older. All new hunters have the green light on anything! This year we took 0 bucks and 5 doe. The last buck I took on my property was 2006. This year we had 4 bucks 4 1/2 and older on trail cams, not bad for CNY.
  5. Yes, we have a management plan. Our plan is now over 5 years and we have seen a positive effect from it. The quick version of the plan is improve native browse, plant trees/shrubs, food plots, tsi, low pressure, sanctuary, take out does, let the 1- 2 1/2 old bucks walk and cover.
  6. never hunted over a feeder but have food plots for several years and yet to kill a mature deer over it but yound deer i see all the time. food plots dont = mature buck
  7. no i have no problem passing them in any situation.
  8. ar is a tool to increase the age structure in the buck herd. feeders don't do that.
  9. looks like u hunted over bait? is that corn?
  10. yes. Also, you can use your unfilled reg season buck tag in ML season as well.
  11. Not yet but hope to sooooooooooooooooooon!
  12. here is another great source for quality trees. YOU DON'T NEED TO BE A RESIDENT. http://mdc.mo.gov/landwater-care/landowners-and-farmers/seedling-orders/2010-2011-seedling-order-form
  13. Fantail, all very good points. For the most part I will not see the rewards of my Oak plantings but generations after me will. Soft mast trees definately produce faster than Hardmast and shrubs produce faster than trees for the most part. No one looses by planting trees and shrubs
  14. My first rifle was a Winchester 30-30 lever and my only rifle.
  15. I wish! It's a nominal amount on top of the tree price. They have great stock!
  16. I put root gel on the roots if they don't come with it. I also have 30 gal barrels filled with water that i keep the bareroot trees in while planting so they don't dry out. If I can't plant for several weeks I will heal the trees in the ground.
  17. G-man, QDMA just came out with a book called Deer Cameras, the science of scouting. There is a chapter on buck to doe ratio calc. I will see if I can post some info. http://www.qdma.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/11/QDMA-Survey-01.pdf
  18. Great 2 1/2 or good 3 1/2.....either way good deer.
  19. Seems like 200+ bucks are taken every couple of years on LI. I know some guys out East who tag big bucks but don't let cat out of the bag
