  1. First off, I hunt archery very hard and gun very little. I don't have a preference but Saturday is definitely the most logical. Many people; employees, college students, high school can get out easier on a Saturday. I believe the DEC/NYS, thought it would increase gun hunters. The bottom line, this young generation just isn't into hunting. As the baby boomers continue to age and more and more land is posted I think it'll even get worse. It's sad and I'll do my best to get my son involved in this beautiful past time.
  2. Not many better feelings. Way to go!
  3. Buckmaster, whether you like this topic or not doesn't change the fact and the very real outcome of many of these wounded animals. The only reason I began the topic was because I was reading many hunters say "Well, I didn't recover him but I think he'll survive." The likelihood of survival is very low, especially after the infection takes hold.
  4. I've said before and will continue to say, I'm almost starting to think the deer prefer the wind. It's uncomfortable and you have to stay mega alert but as far as movement I think it has 0 effect on tbem.
  5. I really am not sure. My taxidermist tries to persuade hunters away from them. He says it doesn't represent their beauty. I've never done one.
  6. For everyone wondering, the rut is upon us. I'm not sure what phase or intensity. Some of you know where Niagara University is, I was leaving hockey practice for my son. On campus at 12:40 I see a doe, I pull over and make grunts with the app. All the sudden I have two 8's a staring at me. The stare down is taking place when 3 more doe jump out of this little 20x20 wood island. The lead doe starts trotting off and quickly both bucks are nose to the ground trailing by 20-30 ft. Keep at it, it's happening.
  7. I hate hate hate waiting to get home and hate hearing the wife even more, after she finds out her laptop grew legs.
  8. Not to get off topic. How can I do that? I can view an SD card with my phone?
  9. I think some people aren't aware of a deer keds. I think many people mistaken these for ticks but in fact they are very different. Regardless, lots and lots if keds and TICKS this year. Be mindful.
  10. It's like an epidemic. My buck was loaded, he had 5 fully visible and engorged on his ears. Plus, many more on body. Watch for the tiny ones, either a different species or the nymphs. My Dad searched me after I gutted and dragged him, he found 3 on me.
  11. As long as the wind doesn't jeaporadize safety, get out there. The wind will not hinder movement, especially now that the rut is kicking in.
  12. 10 to 15 min. I would get too cold if I was in long before light.
  13. Gotta love hearing the crash sound, way to go!
  14. I would guess gut shot. Arrow usually passed through.
  15. Guys, it started in 9P. Had a shooter 6 for our hill and basket 8, following doe. I would have taken the 6, 23 yards but out of buck tag. Doe was small or I would have shot. Keep peeled.
  16. Plus, they have a much more desirable scent they're looking for right now.
  17. No concern. Maybe curiosity gets them in trouble.
  18. Hi buck tracker. Impossible to know from the info you provided. You aasked if stomach but ten said you know you hit her right behind shoulder, just low. Did you actually see the arrow hit her?
  19. It's cool, it's fine. It's all overrated anyway. When warm, I prefer my dark green fleece while coat hangs in tree.
  20. I think this is correct. Things are about to get crazy, just not quite there. This week coming up into the following weekend is when a lot of the mature deer will encounter their demise.
