I stopped yesterday afternoon between jobs/estimates as I conveniently had time to kill.......... The parking lot was darned near full but there was plenty of room in the store to shop. I snagged a new pair of microtex pants, a cheap fleece camo blanket and some.................fudge. The blanket will stay in my p/u as the wife is always cold when I'm running the a/c. Plan on an hour at least to get a real good look at things. Bring your motorcycle so you can't bring much home..............

Interesting rug. Somebody spent some serious time skinning that out! That'd be out of my league. Usually they have all kinds of holes in them when I'm done and it isn't from bullets or broadheads.

Gotta be true...................

Only thing you were shooting was the MOON.

You guys are a riot! A 270, 280, 300WM etc in the guts is gonna kill WAY better than a 6mm bullet...........

You can move with less of a chance of being spotted when NOT wearing orange.

Nice to see the bone shining! If you guys that live in the "country" have young trees you'd better get your butt in gear and get them wrapped or that brute is going to be polishing that bone on your beautiful ornamental tree! I bet you spent some big dollars on those trees too...........!!

What powder are you using?

Keep in mind we are talking the mighty whitetail deer here, not a grizzly or big bull elk. BUT............ I think MOST guides would much rather you brought a gun chambered in a cartridge you are COMFORTABLE shooting as apposed to a magnum. In fact, I guarantee it.

They just caught the Greene Co. murder suspect

Now I have the facts thanks to CCHC and all I can say is the outcome of a horrible situation was a positive for the taxpayers of NYS and more importantly saved the victims families from enduring a trial for the POS. -

Finally. Thank you CCHC. -
What fun are you, being so nice and all?? Glad that 150gr slug is working so well for you out of the 300WM. This year I'm going to be using a 300WSM with 165gr Nosler BT slugs. Good Lord they better poke two holes..................................

Directed at me? I know nothing of this incident and haven't seen anybody hang a link to the crime yet. I ain't leaving until I get some info.........................until then, -
How much lead did your bear absorb out of your 45-70 before croaking and what was the distance involved?

JHC, all I see is a title to the post saying "They just caught the Greene Co. murder suspect" I have to pay $10 every time I use the Google function and didn't want to do that for this info. I was only hoping I could get the background on this badass suspect and what happened in the supposed murder. Thanks in advance for the consideration of a reply. -

Need more info on it; just the facts please. -
Grow....check out the recent NYOutdoor News. There is a cool article about a doe shot by a guy that had been watching it for years. The doe turned out to be 18.5 years old! I don't know if I'd shoot one that I've been watching for that long, it would be a bit like shooting my dog....

300 Savage? What bullet do you shoot and what pert of the deer are you aiming at to not get an exit? (or should I ask how many deer you have shot with a 150gr bullet?) It's odd that my little old pea shooter .243 sends 80gr bullets stem to stern on a doe and your 300 can't penetrate both sides?

Good deal! Did ya learn a lesson?

I watched it rise also on the road back from Waterport, STUNNING!

During deer gun season here in NYS I always have a vest or hat on when walking. I will sometimes take off both when in a tree stand but the vest is hung above my head or draped over the front of the stand. In PA the vest and hat must stay on at all times when gun hunting. During bow, duck, turkey nothing. Pheasant (rare these days for me) always an orange hat.

That's be a foolish shot. No deer (or ANY) animal is worth that. Your ethics are questionable.......
-
Define "better". More dead? Unless a hunter is planning to shoot much further than the OP has suggested the difference in negligible in wind drift. You're only talking about an inch +/- in drift between the two at 300 yards with a 10mph crosswind. Muzzle energy isn't enough to worry about either on any deer walking in NYS.

How much shooting have you done with a .243? Ignorance is no excuse.............. The .243 has been used on deer, antelope etc since its introduction in 1955 with great success well beyond 250 yards. I don't have much experience with the 243 but have a few friends that have killed truck loads of deer and antelope with it and maybe a moose or elk too. Although I have killed less than 10 deer with it and only a couple over 200 yards it has killed like a lightning bolt. Here is a much viewed picture of an 80gr Barnes TTSX that was recovered from a roast after traveling the length of a adult doe in PA at 235 yards. The only reason she went 15' was that was the bullet energy! And this buck was shot with (yup, same bullet) at about 200 or 210 yards. Different year but also PA............
