  1. A number of ago I killed a buck that a coyote pushed right to me. It was during archery season and he came right behind the buck by 15 seconds. I tried to get an arrow in him but he spotted me PDQ. He busted out and only went 150 yards or so and kept howling for a bit. I didn't like that so took the long way around to my truck. I returned after an hour with a 12ga 870 and big ballz as I was alone at camp. I found the buck, dressed him and hauled azz out of there back to the truck. The song dog made me a bit nervous in the pitch dark and all. AS ALWAYS, YMMV!! If I'd have had a "piece" at camp, I'd have had that instead of the much better protection of the 870.
  2. I haven't and probably won't call Erie County PP dept. about it after reading this over............................... http://www.governor.ny.gov/nysafeact/gun-owners God damn then anyways.......
  3. How many pre-cooked meals can your freezer hold?
  4. I can't promise much but I can promise that was taken yesterday. I just got off the phone with the guy that took it. He was mowing hay on his farm. He said it was a good thing the hay was short or he'd have never seen it. After the picture it stood up and wobbled off to the woods on shaky legs.
  5. Yes, I'm pretty darn serious with the bow but when gun opens it's all about a good time with family & friends.
  6. Well I'll be dipped, Happy Birthday Eddie!! Any big plans for this wonderful day?
  7. How about this, a friend took this picture yesterday and text it to me. Think this one would make it to see the middle of February? I'm not sure of the location of the fawn but I'd think (and could find out if necessary) Ontario/Livingston county border.
  8. I know, it's spelled "pumpkin". (just a reference to an old saying I won't mention) They are calling for frost in the southern tier tomorrow morning. If THAT doesn't get ya' thinking bow season, nothing will!!
  9. Your thoughts on this AFTER the season will be telling. Luck.........................................
  10. OK, just don't go whole hog on me........................................
  11. Oh Biz................I'm sure I'll get crap from "believers" but I wouldn't use those products if they were free. Don't think that misting on some snake oil to your boots, pants, coat, hat etc is going to do beans for YOUR human scent. Just about the ONLY thing that matters is the wind. They can all be fooled sometimes but you can never be "scent free" with some bottle of magic from a huckster on TV. Flame suit is on.......................................................grin
  12. I have friend in Colorado in the same boat growie.....He hunted elk this past weekend with the bow and it was painful to say the least. His Dr is pretty insistent that he gets the surgery done sooner rather than later but he'd sure like to go until the middle of November when all his tags will be punched, hopefully! Only YOU know what is best for you. Good luck..................................
  13. I don't hunt public land either but a trapper, fall turkey hunter, grass cutters and landowners make their rounds!
  14. You even have a nice mowed path to drag them out, perfect!!
  15. Human presence does not do as much damage to an area as you guys think. You must be forgetting about small game hunters, hikers, trappers, nature walkers etc. I have a couple spots where I hunt that get all kinds of human activity and can still kill a deer. If your thinking you're going to run off your 150" B&C buck, well maybe but not the rest of the herd.
  16. I talked with a friend in Niagara County that was covered with geese LAST week at his house and since Saturday they are gone! Crazy but I'm sure they'll be back.
  17. I think you'll figure out a way to shoot the bow out of it!!
  18. Heaviest..............217lbs dressed: Highest scoring..............Gross 143-7 Net 140-6
  19. Sounds like you have a plan in place, looks good too. Post up your shooting results.
  20. Yes I'd think so. The slash is a tree they'll take, the x is one to drop and leave. (I think!!) Watch the property lines, sometimes they tend to wander.....................
  21. Honestly, no buck could make me pass up everything. I'm not a trophy hunter. I enjoy all aspects of hunting; the hunt, the kill the processing and the consumption. Preparing for the hunt, getting together with friends & family etc. are all apart of it also. It's who I am. But of course, your mileage may vary............................
  22. Anybody make it out? I saw the new regs; 7 shot magazine! Electronic callers!! 1/2 hour AFTER sunset!!! AND 15 BIRDS!!!! I'd like to see the guy that could even CARRY 10 birds out at a time!! I know many guys that will only hunt a fieeld that they can drive all the way into so carrying isn't too much of an issue but damn, think of the work involved if you did bag a days limit, you could fill a freezer fast. A guy had better have a plan in place before hand! My days of doing that are pretty much past. I had enough trouble taking care of my 5 bird limits! Think of what you'd do with the post-dressed 15 carcases. I'd really need to make a deal with growie for use of her carcass pit...............grin My Goodness......................................
  23. Nice 8pt moose. The video works fine.
  24. I'm right on track. Shot the bow twice; I have a problem that needs addressing. The timing of my peep sight and string loop are both off 150 degrees. I guess a trip to the pro shop is in the works for this week unless one of you guys/gals has a fix? Rifles are ready to rock, Doc. I could hunt with the rifle later this morning if somebody gave me the nod..................<grin> Trail cams are in place, two were checked and the other got a 10 day later start so it hasn't been checked yet. Anticipation mounts! As far as stands go, I walked by one a couple weeks ago and looked up at it. Does that count?? Like others have noted in different threads, apples trees are LOADED. I've never seen such heavily laden trees. That shoul sweeten up the venison! I'm ready........................
  25. Egg salad for lunch on opening days. That count?? Other than that nothing special. I'm getting too old for that stuff..................................................grin
