  1. your plan sounds solid. after listening to numerous hours of meateater podcasts, one thing they recommend is a pack out plan. Not a solo activity and there are services for hire. A sat phone would be good too especially if solo. i'd recommend you look up the meateater podcasts, there are a few on elk hunting and calling, but some real good ones where they go through their packs. there are some things us whitetail hunters would never think of and they make a ton of sense. good luck, it's a dream of mine some day
  2. i always used to buy mine at dicks because I liked to just browse around and buy stuff I didn't need and a few things like scent free soap that I did. Now I wont go there and it's just too easy to buy online then make a trip out of my way to the town hall and wait in line.
  3. dude, very little? and many dont believe in cover scents either, because deer know there isn't an apple or cedar tree nearby and may be weary of it. to each their own though
  4. that is a personal opinion. play the wind sure, but myself and many others are very conscious of their scent and you wont change my mind that it's ok to disregard it. that type of hunting would definitely benefit from some sawyers i agree.
  5. i looked for research on sawyers with deer and never found anything conclusive. Just know the stuff has a very strong smell to a human. I hunt in the same gillie suit that I turkey hunt in and spray down in the spring, but I'm leery of it during deer. Now lime disease is no joke and if you have a bunch of ticks in your area, it's probably worth it. But I wouldn't go ahead and just "do it" without understanding that there could be negative consequences as well.
  6. are you ground pounding or treestand hunting though?
  7. i struggle with this, but glad everyone had a good time and happy for you to have some meat and that he made a good shot.
  8. i took them out of your mailbox so i can shoot more bucks
  9. this. don't overthink an elevated shot vs a ground shot under 35 yards. Most good new sites have the 3rd axis adjustment but it's really just for guys shooting uphill and downhill out west.
  10. i've always liked that show. more educational than a guy sitting in a redneck blind over a food plot shooting a big buck. They do some decent job educating in my opinion.
  11. umm quartering away is exactly what you DO want. it's quartering towards that leads to the guts.
  12. only treat during turkey. Never an issue with ticks up in the tree. If I was on the ground in grassy fields I'd treat a week or 2 before. In the spring I let them hang and dry for a week.
  13. cool. looked like a crew, that's a nice size double.
  14. it's funny you say that, because i really love the dual exhaust, have been envious of dodge for a while, but I thought the same thing about forklift slots. haha eh i'm not too worried about my plates. 39 months, 10k a year. I only put 19k on my last lease in 32 months. I think the sticker was $54? Some pretty good discounts in June though, and supplier discount. 6.5' box crew cab?
  15. some more truck porn to get you in the mood jerkman
  16. this i agree with. early fall is great for truck deals and you have the peace of mind having good rubber and a new truck going into winter
  17. yeah sorry i didn't see your post up there. thought i missed something. he or she always has my full support. Think i've been pretty clear over the years regarding my views on bigotry. It's funny, all the crap papsmear posted over the years his final nail in the coffin was using a medical condition some children suffer from as a derogatory insult to another. I'm glad the mods don't let that shit go here. It's ok to jab, joke and have fun and I think it's important to have thick skin. But one thing I learned in college with a pretty diverse group of friends, is that you never know how someone else will take it. Now that said, most reasonable people understand intent is more important than the word, but we're mostly strangers here and hate speech has no place. -off my soap box
  18. i'm not saying the term is confusing or not uderstood nor recognized. For all the reasons you pointed out, it's still common. But I do believe it's less common and most if not all advertising uses terms like "leading full size pickup" not "leading 1/2 ton pickup"
  19. well silence and apologies are a pretty good start. glad you didn't punchicize his face.
  20. i'm with you. i've never used the term 1/2 ton either. Frankly, the only guys that do are some pretty old school rednecks I know. For me it's full or midsize. We don't even really use the term light duty or whatever we used to call the older s-10's and rangers before they grew too.
  21. yes he said those things, to which you very clearly and without any room for misinterpretation make it clear that it's not acceptable and what the consequences are. You don't just go straight to face punching. I don't know about all of you, but i have a family and nice things that would all go away with an assault charge. yes that's the world we live in.
  22. you and i have no information on this relationship. I have friends who do and say dumb shit sometimes. Heck, I have family that does and says stupid shit. My first instinct isn't to haul off on them. We have a serious convo, then if it escalates to a threat against me, my family or my property we handle it. You can be a tough guy and a decent human being.
