  1. same here. with youth football i'll be busy a lot of sundays and it's just not worth the price anymore.
  2. cool bro. Anyhow, can't wait to settle down with a cold beer tonight. 50* this morning. Stands are mostly prepped. Fall is here baby!
  3. there was a doe in heat for sure. 7 years ago my son was a few months old and I knew I couldn't be picky that bow season. Shot the first buck I could. A yearling 5 point. not 30 seconds after i flung an arrow at him comes a dinker 3 and a pretty nice 2.5 year old 8. That eight walked in 10 yards broadside. I about died inside. To top it off he later got a wound to his eye and we never saw him again, i'm assuming he died somewhere from wound complications and that just sucks.
  4. i put access into the scouting prep category. luck is a philosophical debate separate to hunting in my opinion. I don't necessarily believe that some people are luckier than others. I believe we make our own luck. I believe we put ourselves in situations by being more outgoing or friendlier which may lead us to a new piece of hunting land we wouldn't have found otherwise if we didn't strike up a friendship with a neighbor who has a cousin with a farm. That's not luck. Working your ass off reading and scouting and prepping for anything in life breads success, that isn't luck. But yes there is a small percentage of things that happen that can't be explained. Karma is similar for me.
  5. another spin on this subject 1. 70% of success is scouting and stand prep. Screw this up and it doesn't matter how well you shoot or how scent free you are. 2. 20% be proficient with your weapon. This includes knowing when and how to draw/shoot/move. 3. 8% limit scent. combo of playing the wind and scent control. 4. 2% lady luck
  6. i think the point is that wind isn't #1 or even top 3 for some of us. It's still an important variable, any hunter will agree to that. But it's not the end all be all.
  7. from what i've read out west you hike so much that you're going to stink. it's unavoidable, so you have to play the wind. gun is also a bit of a free for all as many shoot deer that are bumped. My guess is that g-man's buck came in out of curiosity. sounds like an early season hunt and he heard a racket and came to investigate. Had this happen once dragging out a doe. dad and i not taking any caution and here comes a big 7 to check out what was going on lol. during gun i've had deer bust me by blinking. freaking deer...
  8. i disagree. I've shot plenty of deer downwind. yeah I know some guys shoot nice deer smoking cigs and wearing work gear, but not usually during archery and they're not usually consistent. That's all you need to know about how important the wind is. I'm not saying it's not important, but not #1.
  9. depending on the size of his rack of course
  10. I'll answer 2 different ways. 1. Success for me is an enjoyable experiencing with nature. This is woods therapy, seeing some cool critters, enjoying the fresh air escaping reality. To achieve this my #1 tip is to not enter the woods if my head isn't it. I'll be distracted with whatever is occupying my mind which means i'm on the phone, not paying attention or enjoying the woods. Sort of bundled with this is being prepared and comfortable. Nothing worse than forgetting snacks, water, or over/under dressed to ruin the hunt experience. 2. Success of harvesting a deer with a bow is movement. I play the wind, but it doesn't consume me. For me it's about choosing when to stand and draw. Messing this up and it just doesn't matter if they came in upwind or not.
  11. 3 or 4 of the 10 i've shot. all 10 hit were dead and recovered.
  12. that's what i liked about it. I like tech. Never understood the disdain for it. It makes my life easier and more convenient. It's good mixture of modern creature comforts and old school nasty muscle. and taking the kids to practice is why i love the 4 door. can't do that in the c8.
  13. that fear of getting gapped is warranted though. My car still puts me back in my seat and I can still break the back wheels free... I can't imagine another 300hp on top of that. In a world where we're getting less and less muscle, the hellcats are still (relatively) affordable monsters. The new c8 has my eye too, but I've always been a sucker for the 4 door...
  14. stock for stock. (bench racing is all i have left, my street racing days are well behind me) charger 10.59 05 r6 10.54 https://www.torquenews.com/106/hellcat-dodge-charger-runs-1059-quarter-mile-stock-power https://www.cycleworld.com/sport-rider/tech/sportbike-performance-numbers/
  15. oh I know. I'm just having fun. It's a $3k plastic bike. It's just fun sometimes to see car guys get riled up over crotch rockets. Like dude, of course I would rather have your $70k car. I'm a car guy myself and I suspected wny wouldn't take the bait. But it's not just as simple for him to mash the gas either, all that hp isn't sh!t if he can't grip (I suspect that's why he's getting new tires )
  16. just in case i wasn't clear earlier, the charger hellcat or srt is on my short list of next cars. I totally respect it and want one. Me posting my 15 year old crotch rocket isn't a jab of anykind. just having fun. My 420hp (also not stock) G8 you would whoop easily, but she's still mighty quick. But she doesn't cost me anything and only has 62k on her. Tough for me to bite off a new car payment.
  17. you think my 6 is stock? 140? hahahahahahhahah
  18. i was a huge fan of SOA, but heard myans was that great so never started it. how is it?
  19. i used to think that, but my bike is basically a motor with wheels. yes some hellcat and muscle cars can compete, but they're still pulling heavy frames. this is a 440lb wet rocket lol.
  20. yeah but if the business was lucrative he wouldn't close the doors i don't think? Someone would buy it or take ownership.
  21. that whine i miss soooo much. it brings joy to my heart
  22. this is sad news. I bought a shotgun from them once and they had a great selection. This is exactly what the liberals wanted to happen. Make it so hard to do business, that nobody does business...
  23. man what an intense season. The scene with the daughter... wow. The grandson? Man I haven't been that emotionally moved in a long time. Glad they're already shooting season 3, this show doesn't get enough credit.
  24. oh i see now. sorry long weekend. that looks delicious!
