  1. Email followed by text phone to work out details if needed. Don't start with phone, it's not worth it
  2. I've made 4 trips this year. I consider myself a recreational turkey hunter. The biggest issue I have is that I can't hunt the fields or timber where they tend to hang, which means I'm stuck to the hardwoods and relying on my poor calling or lucky spot to catch them on fly down. I've got birds but I don't lose sleep over not getting them. I really enjoy the spring woods. Dislike the spring alarm clock time.
  3. Wish I brought my thermacell this morning. Probably the first time I've been over dressed and bugged this early... and per usual I'm in the wrong spot.
  4. people don't like change. I also don't think there is a "problem" with our bowseason. The only problem was the doe only rule 2 seasons ago and they fixed that. Those who cannot physically use a crossbow have a means to legally use one all season if they want to. I have said from day 1 that the means to do so should be easier and should apply to elderly as well. However, as a legislator, my first question would be. What's wrong with the season that will be fixed by full inclusion? The answer in my opinion is nothing. The consequence is a few gun hunters are now happy and a few, possibly many bowhunters are now unhappy. It's not like crossbows are illegal. If I wasn't a hunter and looked at this issue from a distance, the whole crossbow thing just appears to be a special interest group trying to sell product. I have yet to see a good argument that it isn't a large part of the case.
  5. Frustrating morning. Took the day off of work, best weather of the 3 days I've been out by far. Whole flock of birds in the field but on the other side. Only 2 gobbles, all hened up and giving no cares about me. Got their attention with a gobble but still not enough for a visit. So 530 -830 I glass and call at birds 100 yards away. Get up to move when they disappear and jump them on the other side of the hedgerow 10 yards from me [emoji17]. Now sitting in another headgerow being destroyed by black flies.
  6. no worries, my intent was only to educate. congrats again.
  7. certainly not the most egregious of violations and one I'm not sure I fully understand or would blow anybody in on. Just good to educate. Similar to deer harvest limits... What does it matter if I kill 2 bucks with a bow and skip gun? What does it matter if I kill 2 birds the same day or separate days? Dead is dead right? my guess would be something about letting others have a chance, but I think it's crap.
  8. congrats. just a heads up though, NY is a 1 bird a day bag limit.
  9. are you turkey hunting from an elevated blind?
  10. Yeah now that's just stupidity there. I sold appliances at sears for a few years in college. I knew my stuff and helped a lot of people but some of my colleagues were just stupid or didn't care. Back when HE washers first came out and telling little old ladies it didn't matter what kind of detergent they used. I've purchased 2 guns at gander as I still believe that was the thing they did the best. Decent help both times. Never really impressed with the price of their used guns though.
  11. I know. Busting your balls. I'm at a desk in an office, so basically I'm just jealous

  13. Hunted Monday and Saturday. Monday was a typical turkey day hunt but with good action and got me juiced. Saturday may have been the worse turkey hunt I've had and the forecast coming up this weekend looks only a little better and has me bummed. I have only slotted 2 vacation days for the woods chicken this year, which leaves me with weekends only and I typically can only do one weekend day. I would say pre-season scouting has shown greater numbers, but mother nature isn't helping at all.
  14. totally agree. it's what I like about gun. Not so much with bow or turkey. And if there's too many clowns they go nocturnal... or at least the big boys do. But yes, plenty of bad weather mornings when you just know the goof who only comes in during "gray light" didn't get out of bed to bump the deer your way.
  15. The comments about staff are interesting to me. Is there a hunting store that has these knowledgeable folks? Do any of you really make purchase decisions based on an associate ANYWHERE for ANYTHING? I don't think I've bought a thing in my life based off what an associate has told me. Too likely to be burned. Point me to where the thing I'm looking for is, that's all I need. Excuse me teenage boy at lowes is this insulation made from organic materials. Excuse me teenage boy at dicks. How quiet is this crossgun?
  16. Kind of a cool thing the DEC has going on that I didn't know about. Seeing as a lot of us spend time in the woods and water thought I'd share with anyone who is interested. Maybe if anybody is already a member they can chime in. http://www.nyimapinvasives.org/
  17. just went to the website. looks like you can't shop online anymore.
  18. this is always what has turned me off about that place. I get their emails and they seem good. You check out some new boots are something you've been looking for and it's retail with a slight discount. You search the same make/model on the net and find it almost always cheaper elsewhere, often with free shipping and no tax. I used them mostly for stuff I needed in a pinch that dicks might not have and found their guns and ammo to be decent. Would love to pick up some yeti or gander brand coolers on closeout but I just don't see that happening.
  19. In the hunting world you might have better luck negotiating via phone.
  20. You know what's funny though, if all hunters worked equally as hard to gain access then those who are currently working hard would be screwed. It's supply and demand and that's what has driven up lease prices and posting signs. Like I said earlier, and you can all disagree with it, but I'm speaking the truth. The less neighbors hunting near me the better. Sorry, just the truth.
  21. Went out Saturday in the poring rain but I had a bachelor party that night and knew Sunday was going to be out. Didn't want to pass up the whole weekend. Decided I could do a chair blind hunt near the fields. What a waste. One or 2 lone gobbles off in the distance and no sightings. It was cold, wet and very non-turkey woods like. I subscribe to the fact that you can't kill them in bed, but there's something disheartening about getting up at 4 on your day off and being cold and miserable to "maybe" shoot a turkey haha.
  22. has anyone gone to the Henrietta store? wondering if it's worth my time for closeout deals.
  23. I subscribe to moderation vs removal. I played videogames, still do sometimes. I hunt, I workout, I played 3 sports in high school. I've nerded out and built my own computers. Bing watched a show on a rainy Sunday. It's about being well rounded and not overly absorbed in one aspect all of the time. Heck, there are some wives of members here who probably think we spend too much time in the woods. Sure it's fresh air and exercise but it's often a solitary activity and often stagnant. Not so different in some way from videogames.
