  1. Doc, All i see is words like "at risk" "target" "isn't over". Nothing new.
  2. all depends. a good approach trail is vital. also depends on morning or evening hunts. i walk sometimes 20 to 30 minutes out of my way to avoid bedding and trails. I've gone out late and killed, but usually i'm in pre-dawn.
  3. you're assuming poachers have some sort of moral compass. These guys have no problem with the mount or the meat. Heck a lot of them probably only cut out the back straps.
  4. did you really take that seriously? everyone else ignored it because I thought it was painfully obvious I was kidding. I don't even live in NY for gosh sakes.
  5. like what? i hear this all the time and all I know is that we've had our seasons extended, our setback rules improved, rifles introduced in areas where they weren't allowed and a new weapon added to bow season.
  6. couldn't agree more. I've mentioned this a few times and I think you said it better than I ever did. When we share pics with each other it doesn't matter, but pictures online should be tasteful, how you act in public with all your camo on, how the bloody deer is transported in your vehicle etc.
  7. speeding kills far more HUMANS, than poachers kill ANIMALS...
  8. there is an annual squirrel hunt contest near Rochester held by a fire dept. prizes, food etc. big family event too. They've been protesting it each year. so irritating.
  9. Wtf? So I can assume you are a bad Hunter too because of some of the stories you tell about your neighbor? Way to ignore the rest of my post though.
  10. Generally few are on this forum as well. To take the time to register, join and post you probably are pretty into hunting. I think that many members on this forum are competitive and passionate. I believe that drives the debates and arguments. The ww just doesn't care enough to argue. If you hunt legally, safely and ethically it shouldn't matter how often you hunt. I believe the stereotype comes from the ww possibly being more prone to make mistakes do to inexperience and even possibly make some poor decisions with their time in the woods being limited.
  11. I think you're taking your personal style and assuming all woman are the same. I personally know woman hunters just as bad if not worse. Please don't make this about race, gender, sexuality, income level. There are bad apples everywhere in all walks of life. Poaching a deer and a stupid sunset rule are different arguments. While both are illegal, the discussion here is what can we do as a community to perhaps get the state to recognize the 30 min rule like so many other states do? I do not believe any of us feel it's unsafe.
  12. i have no doubt that some do. But remember on the internet everyone is a law abiding citizen with a legal degree.
  13. or you can take a buck during regular and MZ. You can also use your regular tag in MZ, meaning you could also take a buck during bow and MZ. Essentially there are 3 different ways to harvest 2 bucks no matter how you slice it. At least in the southern zones.
  14. While I agree with you to some extant. What's easy on your land might not be somewhere else. Some guys may only hunt a few weekends a year and if the first deer they see is fork horn than they're probably taking it. In fact, I'd argue that during the rut the easiest deer to shoot is a yearling buck or even easier is a bb. A doe can be harder to outsmart. Now you probably hunt similar land as many of us and see at least a doe every sit. But just remember it's not always the case.
  15. what you're neglecting to recognize is that sundown and sunup are not the same as dark. I have yet to see someone on this board advocate for shooting in the dark. But it is certainly light up to 30 min before and after. Now if the law was 30 like many states and it was a cloudy overcast day and 25 min before and i didn't have a safe shot due to visibility I wouldn't take it. At 30+ minutes before and after it's dark. Doesn't matter if the sky is clear and the moon is out. That is the difference.
  16. Lots of guys do that. Take a shooter and then continue to hunt looking for a wall hanger. Few if ever fill the second tag. What would you say then?
  17. his intelligence and whit is peaking through again. I guess his last time out is wearing off.
  18. idk... by looking at that deer I might tend to blame it on the fever!
  19. garnish wages. it might take you a long time but you pay. Don't let income level fool you. Plenty of white collar and even "celebrity" deer hunters have been caught poaching.
  20. i use my wifes tag all the time. what's the big deal?
  21. thinking about it. wanted to try out public land this year. Initially i was dissapointed, but after I bought a gps and had the balls to hike deeper I think I've found some pretty nice areas that the average joe doesn't venture to. Will see how the last 2 months go here before I make a call on that next year.
  22. everything i have read and been taught says to hang by the legs and all the reason points to better drainage. I've attached a pdf i found a while ago that has some pretty basic processing tips in it. I'm not saying it's right or wrong or the only way. Just found it useful.
  23. i went to using the viper bore snake on all my guns versus the rod and brush. Use the foaming cleaner and let her soak then the bore snake. Finally a few patches and a light oil. I think I'm using the t7, can't remember.
  24. the argument is that if I cross several of our borders it's 30 min before and 30 min after. Are their "roads" any different than others. I do not believe hunters push the rule more if they go to 30 and 30. I believe anyone who shoots a few minutes before legal light is taking a perfectly safe shot that would be legal in many other states... and in many of those states you can own the gun you want too. It's a BS law and that's why people argue about it. Nobody here argues spotlighting and not tagging your deer. Why? Because those aren't stupid laws. A law is the law is spouted by the same guys I can guarantee you violate the safe act. So that's why the speed limit analogy is used.
  25. that does suck. can happen to private land owners too when the deer cross those invisible lines. I have to imagine it's rare though. Another reason to love bow season. Naturally moving unspooked deer with far less hunters. I have ran into 2 hunters now during gun when I didn't see a soul during bow. But I am a weekend warrior with this year having burned all my vacation for weddings. When you hunt public land you have no rights to a spot. If you don't like it, you have to pony up the cash for a lease. You really don't have other options. It is what it is.
