the minority have done a lot of good things for this country. Slavery was abolished, woman's rights, equal rights for all races etc. None of those were popular but they were all the right thing to do. If the popular vote always won out prostitution would be legal, you could buy crack at cvs, we could own full auto machine guns, fireworks, etc. I'm obviously going to some extremes here but just trying to point out that a bunch of down state assemblymen have no interest in this issue. So if they vote "yes" it's probably just to see it go away. Similar to the SAFE act... who was opposed? Upstate. Did we win? No. Is the SAFE Act going to prevent anything? no.

Agreed to a point. If you're accurate 100% of the time you should be fine. But a bad shot could lead to less salvageable meat. I certainly wouldn't use this:

this. i've done it on my one stand that's a little too close to some houses (although legal) for comfort. Honestly though the archery season is long enough that I generally don't have the urge. I also have only used my mz during late season. I'd like to see them change the tag structure to "2 bucks per year" regardless of when you take them. I know a lot of guys who would rather take 2 during bow then 1 each season. I believe they don't do this because how the numbers would be impacted by gun though. btw, You can use your regular season during late if you didn't know.

wow 7 pages huh? this article pretty much sums up how I feel. The only real argument I had with anyone on this subject was the guy telling me he should have shot to wound not to kill... the military and police don't even shoot that. Typical movie watching, never shot a gun clueless liberal response. http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2013/07/14/zimmerman-trayvon-martin-nbc-news-column-rieder/2516251/ That and sickening it was made about race. 50% of murders in this country are African American males between 17-24. 90% of them are committed by other blacks. Chicago has an epidemic, but nobody is protesting that?

Doc, I think it's mixed. Some use it as a talking point and others genuinely can no longer shoot a bow and still would like to participate during archery.

did you even read the post? I said that there will never be a winner because until they're legalized there will be always people pushing them. There is no win for those of us who are against them. We just have to try to keep winning. And the constitutions was a joke because that's about the only thing that could end them for good and we know that wont happen. i would support them in that instance. have said it more than 2 dozen times now.

If You're Against Crossbows During Archery
Five Seasons replied to Five Seasons's topic in Bow Hunting
that's not entirely what I meant. Hard to get my words across I guess, but what I meant was that when you do work really hard at something and the hard work pays off, it does make it more meaningful. If you trained and trained for the olympics, it's not the medal but it's the recognition of all the hard work. -
the stories and memories triggered by just going through stuff was almost too much. That man was my hero. Taught me how to hunt and fish. 3 songs always get the eyes watering

1. Until a suprme court grants it unconstitutional, anti crossbow will never win, we will just keep winning as it reamins illegal. I do admit I sit here at work smiling seeing how ruffled your feathers get. 2. never said I was better than you; but I find it funny you're so pro-crossbow without ever having shot a nice buck with your bow. And trust me, around 11:15am it was very stinky. Labbatts blue light leftover from the 4th. Generally I like a nice sam adams or micro brew during the week after work vs la-pabts. stinky, stinky poops you've made a lot of statements about "out west" on a NY hunting website. I assume everyone is taking your word for it, but I haven't seen any articles or videos.

years of practice and I still don't like shooting over 30. I can split arrows at 15, but my 30 yard target includes the occasional bad shot. I can't even imagine 100.

both of your statements are things that have not happened. Both of mine have. I'll let everyone else be the judge. Done with the pissing match for now. Bub.

So my grandfather passed away at 81 this spring. Long time hunter and Korean War vet. He was one of those guys you might see on American Pickers, but most of his junk was hunting and fishing related. He must have had 100 arrows in a bin of all sorts and sizes. Anyhow, as you can imagine he has a nice collection of bows including a few old recurves and one I'd like to start hunting with. 2 weekends ago we go together as a family to start cleaning up the barn. Squirreled away in the corner were 2 cases. Inside were the bows below. As a younger hunter who has only known the newer modern bows it was really cool to see these. We plan on making a display with them and hanging them in my Uncle's Barn. Thought I'd share and sorry for the poor pic quality.

check my avatar. maybe if you get a crossbow one day you'll get the chance so you can flip me off but I can't respond to it? got it. Family site with a smiley entitled f#*C. lmao! oh, and it's still illegal. still winning, and you're still whining. didn't you know if somebody sells something that means it works?

wow. 1 week to be proficient with a compound at 100 yards? you've gone off the deep end buddy. This proves you've never even shot a bow. Very few people are proficient with a rifle at 100 yards after a week unless they're shooting off a bipod and even still. you just blew me away with that.

I think easier to shoot and more humane etc. is an interesting topic when we look at recurve, compound, and crossbows. Any hunter can be just as profficient with a recurve as another hunter is with a crossbow to some extent. What it comes down to is practice and dedication. And someone who puts in hours and hours with a recurve will probably truly appreciate their buck more than the 12 year old who just got his crossbow for Christmas. i believe with this time and dedication to practice, they gain a better appreciation for what we all consider to be "hunting" and not "killing" of deer. -
we picked peas on monday too. they were delicious!

exactly looks to me in the video i posted that it's no different than a gun on a bipod. squeeze the trigger and let her rip.

If You're Against Crossbows During Archery

all fair points covert. I apologize if my post came across in a way that bowhunters are all great sportsman. I too have shot deer and seen deer with arrows sticking out. (probably those nasty illegal 3 blade rage heads ) but i've seen my fair share of equally bad gun kills/wounds. I guess I'm just hoping if they become legal they're not treated by new hunters as guns. That they can just take one out the day before archery, sight it in and head into the woods. I believe currently that's a problem with gun hunting and not as big of an issue with archers. In summary it may lead to more bad shots than there already are. I don't believe the good ethical gun hunter who practices and sights in his gun would do any worse with a crossbow. It's the gun hunter who doesn't that might pick up a crossbow that worries me. -
1. never met a hunter, seen a video or read an article about any good bowhunter using a rest 2. no. distance is not the same. Unless you've put in hundreds of hours to shoot an animal with a compound at a hundred yards you're not doing it and it's very, very rare that it would happen. While this guy simply sat down and pulled the trigger
-
i told you it's on my bucket list. but i'm still waiting for pics of a nice buck you've taken with a bow too don't forget. opinion, not fact and congress agrees. And you cant hunt with one. so that finger you raised? sit and spin buddy.

my tag is always in my bag. All I hunt is private land. Only time I've worn it is when I hunted Darien for deer and pheasant. Normally I don't even tag the deer till I'm in the barn. I see the logic for the rule but don't like it. We don't all wear our drivers license around around a necklace when we drive. It's in our wallets. Does that mean we're driving illegally? Not to mention the tag makes noise rubbing against a tree...

If You're Against Crossbows During Archery

90% of current compound hunters will stay with it. But I'm not so sure about new hunters old and yound. You have an option at an easier and romanticized weapon by shows like the walking dead as a 14 year old (who is already in love with videogames and guns) and give him the choice between a bow and something with a trigger and scope? The numbers dwindle... the same logic I hear when we debate helmets being required on motorcycles. It does impact you. You just don't see it. It changes legislation, it changes the mindset and if you believe the actions of the guy on the other side of the fence wont impact you, or your kids or your kids kids then you're naive my friend. Just like the guy who dies because he didn't have a helmet on does affect your insurance, the perception people have of motorcyclist and state laws. The crossbow hunter could affect the image of the traditional ethical and devoted archery hunter. It may become one that is common with the stereotypical deer camp gun hunter. You will have more guys climbing trees who shouldn't, more wild shots (because heck, all you have to do is pull the trigger and from what I've heard time and time again this is a weapon for someone who doesn't have time to practice) and with more hunters you could very well see more trespassers and poachers on your fence. Very easy to sneak in and out with a crossbow. Not so much with a gun. What if he brings his gun buddies in with crossbows and puts on drives? Wont affect you? Don't think it'll happen? i've asked to see NYCC member numbers a few times with no response. Curious as to how they compare and what they've done for the community other than advocate for crossbows. Recall I listed the achievement of the NYB. Also curious as to where you always get your magical unpublished number from. But I guess I should trust the numbers from someone who's very anti NYB? But if you are correct, I'd like to add that I've joined, left and rejoined the NRA a few times. Any organization that requires a fee will see these fluctuations. I left the Alden rod and gun club after a year because I moved. Not because I didn't like their club. -
we must have the same problem. I too am always twisting his words and putting them in his mouth. perhaps this will help http://www.monroecc.edu/depts/wac/fac_res/guidelns.htm and relax, it's just a joke
