  1. most reality shows do a decent job of hiding the staged parts, this show does not. The scene with the rich animal lover was obviously staged but to me it's fine because it simply recreates what does really happen. If you can watch the show and keep in mind it's for entertainment and not serious it's decent. When you start to pick apart all the scenes (like the one where the old guy is in a treestand in someones yard and the owners come outside) then the show is not for you. Did that really happen? No. But people busting your hunt does happen in the burbs. I have two sort of unrelated question for the bowhunters on this site. How many arrows do you keep in your quiver? I bring 4 into the woods. That old guys had like 8 in his quiver. wtf? And does anyone have a pickup with one of those "deer carrier things"? What's the point? Throw it in your bed...
  2. I never called anyone a bad hunter, i said it's disrespectful. If you don't mind taking a day off of work and getting up at 4:30 only to have your hunt ruined by a rabbit hunter than that's fine. I value my time in the woods. Mostly because it's peaceful time alone. I don't want to hear dogs chasing rabbits or guys talking. It's peaceful time for me in a tree and why i truly enjoy archery vs gun. If i want to chat with other hunters I'll go to the towny bar. i've stated many times i hunt hundreds of private acres owned by my family. But I know not all are as fortunate, and I believe crossbows will be detrimental as generally it invites a different type of hunter into the woods. I'm not the only person to say this so stop attacking me personally.
  3. believe what you wish. I know I'm not alone. My neighbors know we bowhunt and they respect it so they don't shoot their guns during bow season. Nothing says they have to do this other than common courtesy. Would you really be all happy and fine if your neighbor was squirrel and turkey hunting next door when you were bowhunting? He has all spring for turkey and all winter for squirrel. I don't view it as anti-hunter. it's just respecting others. I turn down my 1320watt stereo when I go through towns, I don't crank my music at night, I don't mow my lawn real early in the morning. I don't rev my motorcycle in my driveway and I don't shoot my guns during bow season. Of course maybe you're related to my neighbor who just lets his 2 yip yip dogs bark all day and prevents me from enjoying a beer on my deck. Talked to him about it, and his response is that he can't stop them from barking and maybe I should put up a fence? You're that guy aren't you? Nothing wrong with sharing the woods, but you don't have to be a dick.
  4. you can get foxnews online too if you enter your cable info. the link you posted isn't working for me. http://watch.foxnews.com/channel/#fox-news
  5. honestly, you're no better than the turkey gun hunters or squirrel hunters in the fall then. Nothing illegal about doing any of these activities, but us bowhunters only have a few "good" weeks a year to do what we want, and you can hunt your small game during much longer seasons that don't interfere with the deer hunters. So if you feel you're being respectful of other hunters by hunting small game during deer season you go right ahead. I know I'd never be that guy. I realize not everyone hunts deer and what not, but there used to be this thing called "common courtesy for your fellow man" guess those days are gone and the days of "i can do what I want and you're not the boss of me" are well and alive...
  6. careful doc, i got yelled at for questioning why people would eat woodchucks in a separate thread
  7. I bought an 18" poulan for $180 I think? Its fine for small trees and limbs, but it's not the greatest piece i've owned. Some design flaws with the chain tensioner. But it gets the job done for cheap.
  8. it's what they do for a living. They take cases and earn money off them. I'm not saying their cause isn't just; but please don't just blindly hand your money to someone who claims to have your best interests in mind. Law firms are some of the worst predators on emotion there is.
  9. donating is fine. As long as the animal doesn't just rot so someone can get their rocks off. somehow that doesn't surprise me
  10. I have only hunted public land 3 times several years ago. The incident actually occurred on private land and the guy was trespassing. I have never seen this during bow season as I know little to no bowhunters who stalk and stomp about. I am not ignorant enough to believe it doesn't happen, but can we all agree it's more prevalent during gun? So, if you're really going to sit here and pretend there is not a general difference between bowhunter and weekend gun hunter then I'm not sure we can keep talking. I know little to no weekend bow hunters. Those that I know who bowhunt take it very seriously. I know very serious gun hunters too, but I also know plenty of "deer camp" gun hunters who have little respect for the guy on the land next door or understanding of what a posted sign means. There are always the exception to the case, but for arguments sakes lets remove the outliers. I don't want this hunter in archery season. I'm not ashamed to say it. Regular and late season are plenty long enough for this type of hunter to get their time in the woods. Why must they now have more opportunity to clown around pretending to be Daryl? This is thread number 302 on crossbows, and still nobody has told me why crossbows will be a good thing for NY. If you want more deer taken, crossbows do not achieve that. Your bow/mz stamp is still in affect. Your number of dmp's are still the same, the late season is still there for you to take a buck and some doe with your smoke pole. I have made my positions clear several times on why I believe they will be detrimental to the season as we now know it. And the best I've heard in response is that I'm selfish, elitist and who am I to decide the weapon you're allowed to use. That's just it right? You want to be able to use it and you just don't like being told you cant. Human nature is to crave the thing we cant have isn't it? Use it during regular and late for all I care. You'll not hear a peep out of me. Finally, what about all the bowhunters who don't have the luxury of private land? Screw them because your solution is to not hunt public land? Now who's anti-hunter?
  11. exactly. it has nothing to do with fear of them shooting "my deer" as my fans like to claim. It has everything to do with them ruining my "experience" and changing the tradition of bow hunting and what my son will experience when he's old enough. There was article posted on here a while back about crossbows in Ohio and how they have changed the experience, but I cant seem to find it.
  12. I actually had no issue with background checks, however I was pissed to see the president release a statement claiming special interest groups have got in the way of protecting the safety of our children. It has been said by both sides, that these new measures proposed by the feds and the safe act would not have prevented sandy hook. The school was locked and the kid broke in. What would have stopped him? Not a metal detector, only someone shooting him first. I'm so sick of them using the death of these children to push their socialist agenda. Propose the measure you want if you believe it'll keep guns out of the hands of criminals, but stop pretending this would have prevented 90% of the school shootings. All of those shootings were done by non-criminals who could have easily obtained guns even if this bill passed. The best part of the safe act? higher penalties for shooting first responders and selling guns to criminals (result of webster shooting). Nobody disagrees with those. But 7 rounds, AR bans, registrations etc? they do nothing to prevent school shootings. Pressure cooker shrapnel bombs are illegal and they still happen... people suck. some people are evil. Stop pretending like you can just legislate evil out of the world.
  13. the new chisel tip in action
  14. i believe they have to kill 3 doe before they earn their buck tag. I think in some parts of this state that would be a great idea. I'd only be concerned that some people would just senselessly kill some doe to earn their "horns". I know hunters that don't even like venison.
  15. and if you're hunting public land or shared private land, taking a precious vacation day, up early and scent free in your favorite spot enjoying the sun rise and some clown comes traipsing through the woods with his crossbow, orange hat and smoking a cigarette it wont bother you? Because what I'm describing to you is an actual experience I had during gun season, but has never once happened to me during bow season. Will the failed crossbow hunter give up eventually? Probably... but will archery season ever be the same? -Your resident elitist NYB member
  16. we need to teach you how to upload pics instead of taking pics of pics great looking buck though. welcome.
  17. the new chisel tips have revised the o-ring design a little as well.
  18. scared of heights down in westchester are you?
  19. i've never used anything but Rage and I've never lost a deer even with my first ever being high and back. They're pricey, but it'd be hard to steer me away from them. However, you could kill a deer with fieldpoints if the shot was good. That's what it's really all about. I dont think you can really go wrong with any of the popular broadheads.
  20. hilarious you will never give an inch. There are plenty of articles against the crossbow as well. Why you can't just agree that we can't settle this debate today is baffling. It's like talking to a wall. At least I will admit that nobody can be right or wrong until the program has been implemented.
  21. only time will tell i guess. if they become legal then 10 years from now we will have data to look at and really decide if they helped or hurt the community. Nobody on either side right now can claim they will help or hurt. We can hypothesize, but only time will tell.
  22. went chisel this year and i'll never go back. that thing was brutal on the deer I shot and I believe it lends more forgiveness to a poor shot that might otherwise not penetrate as far or get stuck int he brisket. Why do you like the older heads?
  23. and then you can do your dance and buy your crossbow. I will be so envious of you and the other crossbow hunters hunting out of tree forts with your bow out the window resting on a bipod.
