  1. clearing and some novice planting of plots and trees. Will do some scouting come May
  2. the font doesn't help his case if you're right!
  3. that was my first thought too. Eddy do they have any fall camo on sale or a good selection of turkey stuff? I was dumbfounded at how bad it was at Gander.
  4. I don't have any major tools. We're talking lawn tractor (26hp husq), troybilt trimmer with brushcutter and cultivator attachments and then your basic garden tools. I am looking to invest possibly if this takes off and start plotting my fathers land (60 acres). For that area I would look at investing in an atv probably and the proper attachments. All I have room for on my property is about a 1/2 acre of room for a plot and this area is not rectangular so it'd be sort of a polygon. It's free from trees and bushes but is now some pretty thick grass from years of the previous owner mowing it. I'm not going to turkey hunt my land as i've decided due to proximity it's a bow only area. Sounds like you're saying I can wait till later in the year to plant annuals for the fall? Possibly buckweat now will make the summer planting easier? My cultivator attachment is really not that powerful. I have been toying with buying a dedicated one. the bag of seed I bought had recommended 13-13-13. It's odd that the experts seem to unanimously disagree with a lot of the manufacturers recommendations.
  5. the point still remains that it's very probable this is a paid internet spammer to promote a product with no actual pictures of the dead coyote. I watch http://natgeotv.com/ca/wild-justice when ever i get a chance. They don't track people down for facebook posts, but they do for pictures
  6. yeah i'm a little worried about the dormant seed, but my cheapo cultivator didn't get down too deep. We shall see I guess. Glad to get some rain last night. On your suggestions, it sounds like you're suggesting several plantings a year? I have read about this, but again this is a small plot. I'm not exactly looking to grow bigger deer as I'm not sure that's possible on such a small plot. More or less looking to attract them. Hoping to have something they are feeding on in the fall like they do now with my apples.
  7. I keep seeing this "impressionable youth" argument in threads, like this board is here to educate our kids. How many 12 year olds are actually on this forum? I haven't seen any that post regularly.
  8. not to be a debbie downer, but I'm thinking the penalty for shooting down a drone will be far worse then the fine for harassing a hunter. Plus what if you shoot down a drone with gps or worse a non-peta gov't drone? You guys do crack me up sometimes.
  9. county clerks website. look for tax maps. Zillow is also a good source but not so much for larger plots.
  10. so shoot me some suggestions. I have a section that's cleared but not tilled and planted. Should I spray with round up first and then what should I plant? I need something I dont have to go out and buy extra tools to plant unless they're cheaper tools and will be used in the future.
  11. the guy is obviously paid to promote a product, and even if he wasn't you're the kind of person to report someone for killing a coyote? The f'n scurg of the woods? Why there's a season is beyond most of us. I'm not promoting illegal taking of game and if he's not a promoter of product he's an idiot for saying anything but still. Reporting for a yote? There's not even a picture! trace my i.p because I made this comment on the internet yesterday I shot 4 gray squirrels a pregnant doe, 4 geese trapped a mink and 3 hen turkeys. Must be true he said it online with no pictures for proof!
  12. thank you. that comment whether you're pro or anti crossbow was just plain silly.
  13. i don't listen to anyone! haha like i've tried to say, this isn't a big deal for me at the moment. I'm trying to save on costs, time and money. It was a little side project for a very small patch (see pics on page 1). I know very well soil samples are the way to go. I guess I was hoping to just "throw a dart at it" by doing what I did and see if I can get it to work. If not, I'm only out the 1/2 a bag of $23 seed. The lime and fert has no ill effects. Then if the clover fails to grow I would go the route of a test and plant some annuals or something for the fall. Trust me, at 29 I'd love to be able to afford this kind of project http://www.qdma.com/forums/showthread.php?t=41506 but that's not me right now. is there a spray I can get at home depot or lowes for grass and weeds that wont kill clover assuming it does sprout?
  14. wow 13 votes. seems legit (especially with one from Virginia where Fall is recommended by the manufacturers). But honestly, I will keep doing my research and hope to get more into this. I do honestly appreciate the advice and with anything, you learn along the way. Took me 4 hours to do my first brake job years ago. I did my wife's front rotors and pads in under 90 on Sunday. Learn tips, tricks and acquire tools along the way. There's only so much knowledge you can gain from reading on the web right?
  15. just be careful of the idiots on public land. I saw one guy using a gobble call. They have their place, but not for me on public land.
  16. like I said, it's $40. If it works great not a lot of time or excessive effort. I cleared some brush that I planned on doing anyhow. Most of the area was already exposed and had been mowed grass/weeds by the previous owner. I tilled it up and limed/fertilized and seeded. If it fails I'm out a little bit of money and some time that I feel was well spent even if it doesn't grow. Perhaps it's best to add that this is 5 acre plot with one stand. The deer are sucked into my stand by the apples and hickory. I thought this might help. I hunt the stand a few times a year when i just want to walk out my backporch. Generally I hunt my parents and grandparents hundreds of acres. I guess what I'm trying to say in a very long winded way is that this isn't my prime stomping grounds. It's "play" property. Had I set out to do some plots even a 1/4 or 1/2 acre in size with some nice expensive equipment I certainly would not be going at it so 1/2 assed. My tools included: chain saw, trimmer with brush cutter and cultivator attachments, garden and leaf rake, pruners, wheel barrow, lawn mower and a playlist of all eric church, luke bryan and jason aldean albums on shuffle. maybe this will help: staring out facing north east south finished before tilling north east south
  17. i think that depends on the image the hunters portray. If they are ethical and anti-redneck stereotype than it will be good. If they're recruited because they fit the pickup truck stereotype then it doesn't help at all.
  18. 6 days alone and only 1 day of porn? for shame! x2 on the dog turds. I filled 2 bulging wegmans bags and it was just 1 golden retriever.
  19. those look great. My plot's about a quarter of that size to start with potential to clear and expand to around that size. What is cleth? I'm wondering about what to spray to control weeds but not the clover and when is it ok to spray?
  20. I never said people in videos know it all. I've read a few articles and even the manufacturers recommends spring. It doesn't mean they're right, but I don't think I deserve to get an eye rolling comment. See clover plus: http://www.plantbiologic.com/images/document/plantingguide.pdf I went and planted a clover chicory mix on Saturday http://store.evolved.com/home/products/harvest/perennials/provide.aspx Little bummed we didn't get the Sunday rain. I put down some lime, 15-15-15 and the clover. In all it cost me about $40 and some time outdoors. If it doesn't take, I'm not going to lose sleep. It was only a 60x20 plot. In hindsigt I think I should have killed off the grass and weeds with some roundup first. I might do this on a side patch. I'm not a pro. I'm a beginner. This is my trial. I'm not going to get into soil tests and what not until I've decided food plots will be beneficial for me. I have a dozen apple trees and a few hickory trees in the same area. To make an analogy: I want to make sure biking is for me so I buy a middle of the road $500 bike before spending a few grand on something that collects dust. I'm not trying to sound defensive, but keep in mind this is just a trial experience on a small piece of property. It's not that I'm trying to do it wrong, but there is "good enough" and then there is "perfection"
  21. I made my annual spring trip to Gander in Henrietta. Seems that every fall and spring it shrinks and shrinks. Not even any good deals on cold weather last season gear. Before they had 2 isles of turkey stuff. This time I saw only 4 or 5 total types of decoys, maybe 2 vests to choose from and a very, very small selection of calls. I don't get it. Is camping equipment really that much more profitable?
