  1. buck fever is a hell of a thing. I really bought into some of the stuff the guys on the hunting public were talking about in their 2019 season. They mention that every hunter goes in and plans on taking the nice broadside or quartering away shot, but then sometimes in the moment the adrenaline and the antlers gets the best of us. One of the guys was very honest about it and I appreciate that kind of discussion more than the guy who is up on his high horse about how perfect he is. It's a big reason many are switching to high FOC cut on contact setups, so that if the shot isn't ideal and you know you might cave to a less than ideal shot, or and more likely, your shot just isn't perfect you can blow through that shoulder and not just wound by wacking the shoulder or shoot behind and clip a lung or miss the vitals entirely. Best case a lot of times is that you clip a lung and exit guts, which we saw with a hunter already this year. Some of those really suck because the deer is dead but there's no blood as the guts plug the exit wound.
  2. 100% agree. We can all learn from mistakes. Often more than we can from success. Ego's get in the way sometimes and we need to do better as a group there.
  3. not sure how much more growth happens after a frost for fall plots? But I'm pretty happy. I bumped 5 deer in on the way in Saturday morning which isn't something I considered with these plots. I don't have any other way in and there's a chance the deer might have been out in the orchard anyhow, but still generally good with my first year experiment.
  4. man our forum batting average is getting out to a rough start. 4 or 5 down I think and maybe 3 or 4 lost?
  5. I mean I don't know if it warrants execution, but yeah they should get the book thrown at them.
  6. As you and I and many know, it's all about bedding and food early season. If you pick the right spots to catch them going from one to the other (morning or night) and don't bump them from the food or bed you will for sure at least put yourself in a good spot for a nice buck or at least some doe.
  7. yeah i like the positivity, but looks like a single lung and that's not always fatal, especially on big bucks.
  8. I'm convinced that my wife and I conceived our first son the night I shot a nice 9 point in November. If there is a better combo, I don't know what it is haha.
  9. Always a toss up for me with morning vs night. Most of my kills are morning, but I've had my fair share at night. On one hand with a night sit I don't have to wake up early. But with a morning sit I have all day and all the light for tracking and recovery vs the darkness of night, even with a good hit. I do them both based on schedule, but find evening hunts during the early season are more productive at my place if I can get in without bumping them.
  10. Congrats man! I have questions and advice if you ever want it, but this isn't the place. Keep up the practice and more success will come your way! Sent from my SM-T970 using Tapatalk
  11. Did the same thing sat morning. 3 bucks lol Sent from my SM-T970 using Tapatalk
  12. Small bucks and doe at 2 other stands lol Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. Bumped 3 bucks on the way in and got blown at. Something I guess I didn’t consider with these new food plots. Still a beautiful morning. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. that's my mindset too. Just to be sitting in a tree in cool weather watching the sunrise will be a W.
  15. i'm jealous. Out of 3 plants we got like 3 butternut's lol.
  16. spiff's so excited he shot him 4 times! haha
  17. friendly psa. don't stop practicing and shooting when the season starts!
  18. yeah me neither, but the guy was just very blue collar about it and part of me respects that. an interesting listen https://www.themeateater.com/listen/meateater/ep-338-the-biggest-buck-in-the-usa
  19. that's why i like that Huff guy that just broke the US record. He was like here's a pin where I killed it, called the game wardens to check the gut pile and everyone. Everyone was like dude, don't burn your spot and he was like F it, what's the chances there's another US record roaming around, I don't have shit to hide. Made a bunch of money selling the rack too.
  20. let us know if you get a response. If you do, ask him to update the "welcome to 2019 hunting season" frontpage lol
  21. I think he has so much else to eat around that he doesn't bother with the turkeys. Most of the polts are pretty good size now too.
  22. i love my worksharp, i have that same model. considered it for broadheads too, but worried about the angle... idk.
  23. that goes both ways. Would you if you're chef allow a business you have no history with and who does business with an outstanding citizen like fourseason hold your 3 grand? The only answer is the 3rd party and that's to cover both sides of this "bet".
  24. Sounds like these guys are just rolling in it. $3k doesn't seem like it'd put them in the poor house, but clearly the 3rd party would have to be someone chef and fourseasons would feel is impartial and trustworthy, I saw biz volunteer. I'd volunteer as well but not sure fourseasons would be ok with that either. Even if chef shot the wrong buck, I don't see him taking it home without payment so there's obviously some deterrent there. Whats the point of shooting a 150 if you can't put it on your wall right?
  25. I think raising dogs fall under the same umbrellas a livestock as you're raising an animal for profit. I don't disagree that you need a deposit, but why not let a 3rd party hold it? I see why chef wouldn't want to fork it over to the "guide" for fear he doesn't get it back even if he does follow the rules.
