  1. I've said this several times and I'll keep saying it. This law would still require a hunter in a ground blind or elevated blind to wear orange. How asinine is that? This law should not apply to hunters within enclosed blinds or >12' in the air. That's how I've always worn orange in NY, even on private land. Orange hat and vest in and out and taking it off in the stand or blind.
  2. you're not even legal my friend. You need 200 square inches. Which would include a vest.
  3. yes this is sort of the situation. And as the saying goes, the best conservation tactic we have is to beat the developers to the punch.
  4. yeah I'm sorry, I'd actually like to give more but this is kind of a fluid situation and I'm not sure who really knows me, who lurks etc. To be brief, the last thing I need is competition haha.
  5. i can't remember where I saw it, but no it's not just a hat. It's a minimum square inches, which is basically saying you need a normal vest and all orange hat to meet the requirement.
  6. yeah i understand this too. But what's the best way to fairly and accurate achieve that number? Realator? Assessed value?
  7. This is a public forum so I don't want to give a lot of details. Where does one start on assessing the value of land that you would purchase to hunt, and maybe one day build on. Again I'm sorry but don't wish to provide a lot of info, just wondering if there's a starting point for "what's it worth" if you wanted to make an offer for land that isn't listed for sale. A general price per acre is what I'm after.
  8. I liked the rule in mississippi. Mandatory on public land, but not when 12' or higher in a tree or in a blind. The way the NY regs read, you'd legally need BO on when inside a ground blind lol. F'n idiots run this state.
  9. I think the mandatory orange will have the same following and compliance that the sunrise and sunset rules had. We're just replacing one silly, unenforced rule with another.
  10. yeah and i would dance naked in the streets if they released that data because again I don't think this had strong support. Their answers are pretty boiler plate and expected. I think the most critical concerns here still revolve around the blaze orange. They increased hunter hours at dawn and dusk, and while I love this, you can argue it could lead to incidents. They cite the fact that the state is really safe. So why the mandatory orange? Why not only on public land or while on the ground? I'm generally concerned about hunter harassment here. I still don't think they made a good enough argument for the early season or have addressed the access issues either. It is interesting to see that they are considering the earn a buck though, and of course snuck some nonsense in about the crossbow at the end. I've said this before and I'll say it again. I'd gladly take full inclusion over early doe firearm. And yall know how I feel about crossbows haha.
  11. i might be wrong about this, but i believe you can legally shoot a nuisance yote any time of year to protect livestock.
  12. Got this email yesterday, which I'll admit is a step for the DEC. Normally they put these things out for public comment and then just do whatever the hell they want anyhow... which if I'm being honest seems like they did with blaze orange here. I see that many other hunters sent similar notes and reasons as I did. Still haven't met anyone who supported early doe. https://www.dec.ny.gov/docs/wildlife_pdf/deerreg2021apc.pdf
  13. but you could use a rest... there's all sorts of them available https://www.boghunt.com/pods/tree-pods/treepod/1100476.html?gclid=Cj0KCQjw4eaJBhDMARIsANhrQABuhB4HdF3XZW3-B2M9-XpiXZh2akmVsiuFdq6YzVJXKlzrdMgha74aArudEALw_wcB
  14. same, even stands i've hunted for 15 years. first few hunts i bring it with me and mentally mark tress. I have 2 pins and second is setup for 35. So I know what stump is my limit and what imaginary circle I can shoot a deer at and what's under 30 for the main pin.
  15. if yall are going to take offense to crossgun, there's no way in hell I'm accepting vertical bow
  16. Many of us have been archery hunting for a long time. If you've never been busted on the draw, or standing to get ready to draw than you're a liar (not you g-man, just a general statement). Compounds have come a long, long way. I'd argue they're still harder to pickup and become proficient with than a crossbow, particularly when not standing in shorts and t-shirt at an indoor range, but when drawing on a 130 class on a chilly November morning in full gear 25' in the air. Some facts. Crossbows can be shot while seated. So can compounds, but the majority will shoot standing. Crossbows do not require a draw. Drastically decreasing movement. Crossbows can be shot off a rest or mount. Generally speaking, compounds can not. Crossbows allow for magnified scopes, which increase range and aid in unobstructed shooting lane identification (the invisible twig factor). A compound, even with a 90% letoff can not be held at full draw forever, while that buck decides to freeze behind the tree. Generally speaking a crossbow has lot shorter learning curve to become proficient in the 30-60 yard ranges, which many compound hunters in the East do not even attempt a shot at. To reiterate, yes compounds have come a long way. Yes my Mathews Traverse takes a lot to screw up, but that doesn't mean it's all of the sudden on the same level as the crossbow.
  17. I just don't get it... this isn't a thread he started. He doesn't hunt deer. He doesn't have any form of archery equipment and he's the one getting all riled up? The rest of us have hashed this sh!t out for the last 10 years and honestly i don't think any of us even really cares anymore. It's just fun to talk about at this point. In my opinion full inclusion is a matter of when and not a matter of if.
  18. Why is it that anytime someone has a different viewpoint than yours it's perceived as some sort of personal attack to you? That's not how forums work my friend. They're a discussion vehicle that is a substitute for the bar and campfire. When my uncle says something I disagree with I don't just storm out the barn, we have a nice back and forth. I hope it's clear to you that your list of supporters and allies has dwindled. Not because of your views or your character, but how you conduct yourself here at even the slightest hint of disagreement. If you really feel the way you do about deer hunting with a crossbow, by all means ad some more color to your post, because as it is, you confused and muddied your viewpoint for a bunch of us, and believe it or not more members on this board support full inclusion than don't. What really gets me, is that you're the target demo some of us use to make our points for or against full inclusion and yet when we ask questions about why you don't hunt with one now, your response is just "I wont answer so and so's question as he's a big bully"
  19. I got my Bill-decoder out after read #3. Dude is basically saying armies of small game and bird hunters like him would suddenly enter the woods if it was full inclusion, knowing full well he could legally hunt with one now from 11/6 till 1/1 and doesn't.
  20. sorry man, i can't remember who is who in my crossbow arguments sometimes
  21. one more for semantics, as "rifle like accuracy" wasn't enough.
  22. yeah the medieval crossbows were very similar. Just like the compound is to the recurve... I don't know what or why or whatever your point is here. I was simply pointing out the hypocrisy of a few that get all hot and bothered by the term crossgun and how the industry markets these tools. My compound has nothing to do with this, unless you want to point out that no compound has ever been marketed as "rifle like" the term isn't there grampy and you know it. I very much respect you and your posts and I know that you're learned enough to know the point I was making here with regards to the marketing. Furthermore, I'll gladly concede my point if you can find this kind of marketing for a compound. and a bb gun... is a gun... so?
  23. and yet the industry itself markets it as such https://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/next-rifle-crossbow/
