  1. congrats treeguy! I'm thinking of a quick am hunt tomorrow morning. Still not 100% yet though.
  2. You're absolutely right. I remember that warm spell we had last season and I had some shooters show up when you'd least expect it. I think for me it's just an odds game.
  3. I think I have a finite amount of time i can play hookie, wake up early, neglect household chores. So they don't necessarily change how much I hunt as much as they change when I hunt. We all know that heat and heavy rains aren't exactly deal breakers but they also don't spark the same flurry of activity as a crisp fall morning. My cams just sort of reaffirm this and when I might be tempted to sit and leave some scent behind, they help me stay away... if that makes sense.
  4. cams have been super quiet with the heat and rain. Sure I know it doesn't mean you wont get a shot, but it does decrease those chances for most of us non plot hunters. I never liked archery in the rain regardless with the potential loss of blood trails. Besides, both kids had great football games in the morning and the bills took care of business in the afternoon. Might get a morning sit in this week if work allows for it. Have always had better luck in the evenings of early season though.
  5. That’s how I felt last night too, without sound I’d be screwed as they’d be right on top of me. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. Well I jumped a big deer on the way out last night. Fully planned to sit this am but hit the snooze. How bad is that that I flaked on morning hunt #1 haha. Anyhow I’m trying not to burn out or burn stands early this year. Youth football all day tomorrow so maybe a morning sit during the the week. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. The first week of unpressured deer can be great and then yeah I’m out till Halloween Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. Probably in too early for this heat and sun, but I was anxious. New stand and see 2 branches needing snipped despite my early season efforts. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. wtf out of likes already! but hey we have stupid badges now...
  10. this thread has me even more amped for this evening! so happy it's not 80* either.
  11. Really sorry for your loss. When my grandfather passed a few years ago during the season and my other grandfather prior I found solace in the woods. I brought my bow with me, but there was a zero percent change I was going to even pick it up. You may find the same therapy in the stand or blind reflecting on your life with her. I hope others read this and understand that there are choices we all make every day that will never make us immortal, but can help extend our lives and no I'm not just referring to what you think I am. Strive to be healthy not just physically, but mentally too. Being angry all the time can be worse than eating too many big macs. Spend time with your loved ones as even the healthiest of people who make all the right decisions can be taken from us suddenly. God Bless
  12. nature, woods therapy, sense of accomplishment when it all comes together and finally, putting good clean meat on the table.
  13. yeah i'm not really in the market till spring. Plus you know the saying. Anybody can ask anything haha.
  14. bump for a good guy that i have bought stuff from
  15. cams have been mostly dead for a while. some does, some small bucks but they've started to pop recently and especially last night. I could have killed a nice buck or 2 this morning and plenty of doe if I chose the right spot.
  16. i've always carried a multi-light. I prefer to use green when approaching and leaving and a brighter white if it's gut and recovery "not worried about spooking" time. Browning has a nice hat clip light out that also offers red and blue.
  17. I felt very prepared for a friday evening hunt, but man did this week creep up on me. After a weekend in the daks, coming home monday evening and working, kids football etc. I'm now frantically doing loads of laundry and getting my bags and supplies in order. Thankfully I already checked for the consumables and did some purchasing earlier and got my license yesterday, but damn did it creep up fast. Still need to clean and deodorize the truck.
  18. bungie cords with all the other tools and stuff I'm bringing with me
  19. thanks for that advice. timing wise I really don't need anything right now as the season is starting, but thinking about the future and will be watching craigslist. This one caught my eye but again, not in the market just yet. Hoping the jb weld will hold for the 2 or 3 more mowings i need this year. Nobody even has a lawnmower in stock right now lol. https://rochester.craigslist.org/snw/d/union-hill-2008-polaris-sportsman-800/7386674775.html
  20. no real trail riding. At most I'd haul deer and maybe pull a mower or small trailer full of wood. My dad has a honda rancher 400 that does all the hunting stuff just fine, but he's never done any food plot or farm type work with it.
  21. what size quad for towing and doing some basic work? Is a 400 too small?
  22. i've decided that I will probably shoot an early doe vs a later doe this year, so there's a good chance my friend!
  23. gotcha. Do I need to post proof because I don't share my bloody messes...
  24. I'd pay what I need to pay if it was worth it. An ATV is probably in the future, so a pull behind for that might be a good idea, I agree. I guess it doesn't matter, but my current lawn is a hydro. Much easier to wiz about. I think you're all probably right here. But felt it was bask to ask in case there was some wonder machine that met somewhere in the middle.
