Shortages ......
Five Seasons replied to Robhuntandfish's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
I think you're partially right. When the virus first hit, we absolutely needed some relief. But the issue we have now as that the current admin is all about social welfare so now it's their in to keep it this way. Their base will scream bloody murder if you take away their free benefits. In short, the pandemic benefits were needed, but now as we reopen just about everything they need to go and if they don't start communicating that now it'll get worse as people do deserve some time to find the job and make arrangements for child care and what not. -

assuming you can buy the cams and wait to activate the mobile plans? -
I agree with you 100% there is no easy solution other than to get off your ass and learn to archery hunt. It's not a whole lot different than the guy who is a hardcore fisherman than the one who casually fishes a few weekends a year. You get out of life what you put into it.

i think it's easier if the weather is nicer and it's easier in the fall when the reward is a 150+ buck haha. I agree though, there's nothing wrong with a 9-11 sit. I've had a lot of good action going in later. -
i wish I could fill both buck tags with archery. I think the argument is that we would then be shooting "their deer" and by their I mean gun hunters. They're already pissed as it is that we have the rut and have already eroded the season by getting the last archery weekend and a youth weekend in exchange for 2 mosquito weeks.

sure and I've said that if and when it happens it wont be any sweat off my balls, but until then I can voice my opposition to it. Your "so long as its legal, who cares" confuses me. It's not legal and vertical bows are. So why does it bother you? We will continue to have a growing archery season like we have had forever and life goes on.
-
so if it isn't legal, leave it alone eh? Hell of a contribution and rebuttal. The godfather of modern archery eloquently explains the sport and that's your response? Once again I'm here asking for a reason other than disability and support of manufacturers exactly WHY we should allow crossbows. All I ever hear is why my reasons for not allowing them aren't ok. so come at me bro.

All in all it was a nice morning in the woods. I dressed warmer and was drenched in sweat on the way out but comfortable sitting. Classic late October deer hunt lol. The birds on this property do what they always do, but I can no longer hunt where I once did, so I have to rethink the approach or continue to scout and hunt the other property. So far in 2 sits I'm 2 for 2 for shots at hens with no horny birds in tow. Doesn't look like I'll be out this weekend... not sure about next week either. I'm usually good for 5 sits, so we shall see if I get motivated or not. Will say that at least I'm hearing more gobbling this year. Last year was a very quiet and unusual year. -

the latest issues we're seeing is just logistics. Can't hire drivers to move product and that affects the whole supply chain. I've generally been pretty supportive of the covid relief plans but all I see is help wanted signs everywhere and something has to chain. If the country is reopening or opened we need to now "push" people back to work. This is where a republican would shine. -

Nice rant and actually pretty spot on. I heard bacon and ketchup were on the shortage list too. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

Quiet for about 90 min now and I’m about ready to do some walking. Have work meetings soon, so can’t hunt long. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

Lots of gobbling this morning, I think they’re still roosted though. Also sound like jakes. Glad I’m out! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
Who cares what I hunt with as long as it's legal? Such a shitty response isn't it? A guy has hunted for a year or 2 with a compound and makes a comment like that... misses the point entirely.

I'm in the market this fall. Going balls deep into at least 3, I'll have to pick your brain more when August comes around. -
So here's the rub sir. It's not legal to hunt with a crossbow the first few weeks a year, so why do yall care what us bowhunters are doing? It's legal. Yet here we have a thread and a coalition trying to change what is legal. Do you see what I did there? Do you not see the irony in your statement?

1. well the 2nd amendment just had muskets in mind right? oh wait... 3. That was not the UFC. It was a pro, non-collegiate/school league where fighters had a choice to join or not. The point I'm making with this is that all you and the crossbow guys pick and choose your reasons. Those same arguments you use to promote crossbows are the same arguments anti-gun or pro-tranny groups use against other beliefs you hold. So why is it so hard for some of you to understand that for some, we want to preserve tradition, even if it does not directly affect us.

~15 in the ~15 years I've used a bow. 2 years ago with my brand new Matthews (2nd bow I've ever owned) was the first time I wounded (not lethally) a doe. Go figure.

I'll add this one separate and because Fred says it better than I ever will. “Here we have a weapon of beauty and romance. He who shoots with a bow, puts his life’s energy into it. The force behind the flying shaft must be placed there by the archer. At the moment of greatest strain he must draw every sinew to the utmost; his hand must be steady; his nerves under absolute control; his eye keen and clear. In the hunt he pits his well-trained skill against the instinctive cunning of his quarry. By the most adroit cleverness, he must approach within striking distance, and when he speeds his low whispering shaft and strikes his game, he has won by the strength of arm and nerve. It is a noble sport.”

1. here's a few that talk about the history and origin. http://www.badgersportsman.com/issues/back/2016-issues/2016-05/2017-01-06-a-primer https://insidearchery.com/webxtranovhistoryofbowhunting/ Fred Bear tried hunting with a rifle, but never found it very enticing. To put it in his own words, Fred Bear said this in a 1985 interview: “I grew up a gun hunter, my dad was a hunter, shot a deer in 1933 up in the Upper Peninsula that dressed 285 pounds, the biggest deer I ever saw. And it was so easy. That opening morning I walked up the draw and there he was looking at me and I was looking at him and I shot him and went down and that’s when the work began. So, I thought (bowhunting) would be a little bit better.” 2. What? 3. Beating up on woman? I ran track in high school and never remember physically beating up on any of my opponents.
-
so switching gears from crossbow for a second. Do you think a 10/1-12/20 run what ya brung season wouldn't lead to decreased hunter success? Don't you think the bangs and booms wouldn't dramatically increase deer going nocturnal and result in fewer opportunities? Genuinely curious, not trying to pick a fight.
-
we've talked this one numerous times too. There is a big difference in recurve to compound and compound to crossbow. And I honestly don't have the energy to rehash this, but I don't think anyone could argue that one is vertical archery and the other is a stretch.

going in the ground this weekend i think. Not tomatoes yet and still need to start the rest of the crop this week.
