Looking for tack shops with cowboy hats
dbHunterNY replied to RangerClay's topic in General Chit Chat
still looking for a good one Joe? we've got a few out here but too far unless you're already out this way. -
@Biz-R-OWorld i don't think that'd go over well as my mother-in-law was also in attendance. lol the bigger hitch is i'm not a Natty anything fan. Although if he was chillin' with a Natty Daddy it might be more of a statement.

what is acceptable accuracy with your bow?

totally. as a gentleman you've got to go about it in a sporting manner. -

wasn't filming me. i never miss. -
although, might be sooner if one of them lands on their head or has some mishap that gets put on social media.

i doubt their insurance company (guy that they go through) even knows it's there. it won't last forever. i'll keep it in mind when the time comes.

bullets and arrows kill, create blood trails, and have terminal performance in completely different ways. -

he just did field points but even field points are loud coming in. i've spotted a target for someone shooting long distance. wasn't far away from target but behind a barn. they still zip right in and make that hiss sound. arrows had blazers on too. feathers or larger vanes would be worse i think. same with straight versus full helical like i shoot. -
ATV size food plot equipment wanted
dbHunterNY replied to WNYBuckHunter's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
it was an issue comparing different tractors when my dad bought the Kutoba we have for the farm. better rear end was the reason we went with the 2000 Kubota M9000 4WD loader (90HP). i honestly forget what the others were though, but they weren't JD, NH, or something else well known. -

i'm with you. still is more of a pain in the ass to take it off though. we usually leave the loader on anyway and just take off the 7' bucket. you see fine and the loader weight helps for a every but going down hill. -

another thing... i think it's standard issue now but if you get any size loader without a quick-detach bucket system, you're an idiot. a lot of different outfits and or auctions can get you forks for it too pretty cheap. they're handy too. -
cooking tonight for my MIL, wife, and daughter. shrimp and steak on the grill. they got a basket of expensive chocolate dipped fruit last night.

one sitting in my brother's yard right now. old but still functional though. its also belongs to my possible future sister in law so i'll leave it be for now. lol

we've now got a couple on the farm for light work like drawing hay wagons and other equipment. workmaster 45 2WD with a sun shade and a workmaster 55 4WD. i think the 4WD has even been hooked up to the square baler and a wagon. don't remember if either has loaded tires... probably. they're all good if maintained. some tractor models under 100HP you have to be careful as they don't step up to a big enough rear end for the tractor. some of your less common brands it was an issue more so with compact tractors under 60 HP. the new hollands seem great though. no complaints. they sure do sip fuel. -
honestly it was luck for them who got it. it wasn't scouted out. each of them posted up on a small pond or lake and called. that one that made the most noise actually shot it. my one uncle was breaking the biggest tree branches he could find. not much else in the woods makes that kind of sound.

if shit hit the fan i'd be staying put for a while most likely. i've got food, water, a whole house generator with fuel to last months if i had to, and thousands of rounds of ammo for most guns i own. it's not the most idea setup, but i'm alright. not a prepper. just ended up that way by coincidence. if i need a bug out bag then things got so messed up i can't truthfully say i'd think things could ever get that bad.

i should find the photo. my dad, uncles, and grandfather hunted in Quebec for the same subspecies. they had a half dozen of them pulling and attached a rope run through the woods to something else. hauled the whole thing back to the truck. they got it back to camp and used a come-along to hoist it up at the front porch. guide thought they were on drugs until they got it back. neighboring camps came to check it out. got much of it on film.

yea that's pretty much the same as a lot of rod and gun clubs do. use whatever "fly" or material you want. club next door uses sandwiched foam for outdoors and has their own bander to tighten it down. indoor target i'd say take more abuse though.

don't have time during daylight for this during week. will see if i can get to the range this weekend. i'm curious. i know i can hit the 300 yard gong with my a-bolt free handed on many occasions. it's bigger than deer vitals though.

i'd take a standard length AR with a 223 wylde chamber to handle both 5.56 ammo pressure and still maintain 223 ammo accuracy. it'd have a scope and 45deg side mounted red dot for close in. i'm sure there will be a lot of it out there when crap goes down and i'd be able to use either. i'd take my Sig Sauer P226 Elite Scorpion in 9mm, it's got all the features i need like short reset tuned trigger and night sights (minus the neutered capacity). i've got a ton of ammo. also same thing as the AR, 9mm will be everywhere. i'd take my Ruger semi auto 22lr with red dot and open sights as a backup. i've got a bunch of mags and a speed loader for them. quiet being a 22LR. I can hunt with it where the sound won't carry much. i can lay down a lot of fire with it too given how many mags i can have on me and how fast i can shoot it. honestly, anyone here is going to take cover from a 22LR same as any other bullet coming at you. being my NRA competition bullseye gun if you're peeking through a hole in something armored at close range you're still dead. also lots of 22LR ammo will be out there. ...gotta be able to make use of more than just what i can carry. shotguns are nice but they'll be prevalent, low capacity, and heavy to carry for both weight of it and ammo.

every deer at that moment and your equipment factors into how much they'll drop. some just twitch and some could drop a foot. just comes with experience. i've had a doe at i think it was 13 yards or just under 10 yards barely flinch, only until my arrow hit the mud from sailing just over her back. she then stood there. i've had others about hit the dirt to where i would've completely missed had i not aimed ridiculously low to the point i wasn't even with a pin on hair. you shoot some deer with a bow to start figuring it out. -
Do deer migrate and if so how far will they travel
dbHunterNY replied to Hunter007's topic in General Chit Chat
depends on habitat and hunting pressure. deer can move several miles, often less, for multiple reasons. that's within what's referred to as they're home range though. they have a core area within their home range they keep going back to and different areas they flock to different times of the year. like WNYBuckHunter said early in life a button buck can get driven and venture from where it was born, called dispersion. in the fall they may move or shift to a different area down the road due to doe prevalence or usually security/hunting pressure. happens once antler hardens not necessarily when hunters hit the woods. during the winter needs change, and habitat somewhere else within their home range might be better so deer go there. any time of the year, 1 to few times per year, a deer of either sex will do what's referred to as an excursion. they travel outside their home range to check out what's out their. it's nature's way to ensure deer aren't thriving on one side of a mountain and scrapping along on the other when better resources are so close by. -
everything's different. most of my rifles are zero'd at 200 yards and around 1.5 or less high at 100 and less than an inch high at 50. i don't really do the max point blank range thing. i just shoot accordingly and try to put it into the bottom 1/3 behind the shoulder.
