  1. Shot in traveling league indoor NRA bullseye pistol match last night. Women at the slot/station next to me was shooting a what looked like the new S&W Victory. During the slow course of fire portion i noticed a couple spent brass sailing past me. to be expected though and plenty of time to regain focus. you're basically standing facing perpendicular or so to the target, shooting the pistol with one hand and unsupported. during courses of timed and rapid fire though, holy hell was the brass flying at me. i caught a few pieces of brass right square to the point of the nose and others bouncing off my face and lenses of my glasses. in hind sight brass being hot wasn't an issue but they sure did hit with some force for being a 22LR. for the slow fire portion i had the second highest score but when i was getting pelted it dropped way off. with as little as 2 seconds per shot for time you have for the rapid course of fire. i couldn't keep it together. anyway not too bent over it and not the woman's fault really. Just figured i'd share the cluster f*&^% of an experience. i've shot there before and never had an issue.
  2. Looks like a bill has made it past the Senate. S3156 would lower hunting age for everything else (including big game) from 14 to 12 years old. still stipulations in place though. wouldn't be out on their own. only halfway through the process though. looks like it has to get through the assembly still (bill A477). I'd be calling your assemblyman or woman up to let them know you're a voter in there district and you support this as should they. if you don't know who it is, use the link below.... http://nyassembly.gov/mem/search/
  3. i don't know about ever. i've seen it before and with other animals. maybe an abnormality where ears are thinner than normal? in cattle it can happen when young or fighting illness (lower circulation and less able to regulate temperature).
  4. if schedules can align i have to think there's enough forum members out this way to car pool. you would think.
  5. it'd be awesome meeting other forum members that'd be there. especially being involved in some of a the same things just in different part of the state. haven't been out that way in a while now. have friends that i'd most likely meet up with around buffalo too. probably have to figure out how to fit it all in.
  6. i assume you've gotten enough pictures that show they're stubby and not just pinned back given you posted another one from the side. i'm going with frostbite. i've seen it happen with cattle and other animals. it not that common but whatever this deer did given its situation it got frostbite.
  7. i grew up on the family farm with hay the dominant crop and have caught and almost caught numerous fawns in older style haybines (sickle bar type cutting) and discbines (cuts like your lawn mower). can't see how it caught it's ears like that knowing how they lay and thoughts that there's a huge chance it'd catch something else. even for a newborn the cut height is low. even if it made it over top of the fawn it'd be a good amount of force and trauma. any other piece of equipment that cuts doesn't float like them and would crush the fawn. just my opinion.
  8. what about the 783? ...nevermind i read through. besides i'm not against savage.
  9. i thought that barrel nut allowed them to maintain exact minimum head spacing when assembling all the pieces together, a big reason for the accuracy they're known for? i'm not much of a gun guy, so i'm asking.
  10. major pain in the butt to film and hunt. especially that cold. nice job.
  11. hen flock with feeding and upright hens sometimes, but my go to is a jake and submissive hen.sometimes i don't bother with them though.
  12. keeps him sharp and thinking i'm sure. so who moves it? i wouldn't. i wouldn't even be in the same room.
  13. i think it depends on the quality of barrel coming from the factory, but honestly anything decent will probably shoot better than i can. i looked into it and figured i'd put more attention into how i cleaned than anything. I bought a bore guide, one piece coated rod, nylon brushes, and better jags. try to stay away from anything really harsh or crude. i just clean more often when barrel is new, or if it seems to be dirtier than i think it should be. like if i notice when cleaning that it's picking up copper faster than others.
  14. lol.... nnaaa not really sensitive. it probably came across that way and like i was picking you out of a crowd. just me thinking about countless conversations outside of these forums i've had during my involvement with hunting related organizations or clubs. it's just crazy how firmly polarized hunters are on the means and methods of taking the game they pursue. everyone has their reasoning. i mean TV hunting shows are bashed like crazy on here and other places but in all honesty it's exposure that's brought some new hunters into the ranks. as over the top and ridiculous as some of them seem, i'd hate to know that they recruited a new hunter only for that hunter to get the hell out of dodge once they realize we're all a bunch of grumpy, opinionated, pricks that'd give them hell for the way they understand you've got to go about doing it.
  15. i feel like the only one worth talking about is the one you mentioned but it's not NY legal, so idk.
  16. ten point has one similar to the Ravin. definitely not NY legal. Mission Sub-1 pretty compact with bullpup design. another company had a crossbow that was only like 5 lbs.
  17. snow pretty much melting away with the mild weather and rain lately. went for a ride just to get the sled from point A to B. hopefully taking the sled out today to aid in some sleigh riding.
  18. obviously i don't know, but i'd guess that many posting on here have been or are currently a member of some kind of pro 2nd amendment and/or hunting organization. those usually have some kind of outreach outside of casual day-to-day discussions with others.
  19. they about don't have hitlists for the fame and materialistic glory you see on hunting shows. more for hunters hunting the same ground together to be on the same page and let each other know what's around. if you have very few bucks over 2.5 then it seems logical the goals of hunters around you are pretty simple and more open to whatever walks by. intent wasn't to debate your situation. just throwing what i know out there and saying VT isn't as bad as some make it sound. i know typed things can come across differently in person. i'm an engineer. almost all my posts probably come across as 'a matter of fact' like from lack of social skills. "I'm really glad you know guys with hitlists. I don't." .....posts like that though. i mean WTF? we're all hunters with a goal of enjoying deer hunting in our own way that allows us to do it in the future.
  20. Same thing. mine is it's still nice and tight. Sucks getting that floppy lever with the pin in and out. Your mark 1 should be easily done by hand. just have to get the little dangly thingy in the right position putting the guts back in the grip frame. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  21. yea ever try a Ruger Mark II or III pistol? lol
  22. we had shop when i was in school. i graduated in '02. only wood shop though and tech type classes. metal shop got ditched before i got there.
  23. beard deep in a quiche just to get a mouthful of crabs. still doesn't sound great.
  24. you mean the bed made of recycled aluminum beer bottles?
  25. corn fed and imported from area NE of the college where i grew up. some i'd bet came from VT too. heard they train by running down deer and skidding out logs. they don't mess around.
