Thanks B. Same to you when you get out of the urban jungle.

10-4-14 Made it to my stand by 4:15pm this afternoon. Was beautiful out there. Saw the tail end of a deer at 5:45 but it was a small one. Plenty of wildlife out. Chipmunk, someone's black house cat, and some squirrels like this guy Ended up seeing 4 more doe during the sit. I have a video to upload to YouTube and I'll post it later.

10-4-14 Alarm went off at 5:50am this morning. I hit snooze and got up at 6 when it went off again. Turned the back porch light on and it was pouring so my decision was a no brainer. That extra 2 hours of sleep were wonderful this morning, and dry too. Have a soccer game at noon, til one today and a few chores around the house and then out for the evening sit.

Nice job Stone. Congrats on your first bow kill. It is the first of many to come so good luck out there.

The excitement is starting to build tonight. My clothes are in the dryer as I type. Shot a few groups of arrows on lunch at work today as a tune up too. Tomorrow morning I will sit for the first time this year. I have a cam up on my usual tree and there are plenty of deer travelling the area. No giants but they can show up anytime and you have to be out there so I will hunt when I can and post up after my hunts. I love reading the journals every year and also love to share my stories. Hope everyone has a safe and successful season, no matter what you are hunting.Good luck to all.

Hey Fletch, Good luck to you this season. Looking forward to reading about your ridiculous amounts of hours on stand this year!

Sweet shooting! AT BUCKHUNTER - He has no leverage in the upcoming arguments as he chose to sleep in vs. being out there supporting her on her first deer on their anniversary. Any guy who has been married longer then 5 years knows this. LOL Congrats again

Love the daggers on that bad boy. Congrats on a fine harvest.

Welcome. I hunted Chenango a lot with my Dad and actually shot my first buck, a 4pt, there when I was younger. All stateland too. Good luck to you on your first year afield. Be sure to post pics when you connect.

Jeremy - I do have your luck and I am skeptical at the moment so I want to exhaust other options before this turns into a $200 or more job replacing more and more parts. I couldn't find a brand new replacement tank for less than $180 so that is out. I appreciate all the suggestions everyone. Ill update how it turns out but won't be til the end of the week.

Well I am not fixing it in the garage thankfully as it stinks to high heck. The metal is weak on the flat bottom of the tank so I would have to drop it and drain it to get it dry. There is less than 5 gallons in it now so it shouldn't be too bad. I was wondering about that flex seal stuff and may try it before dropping the tank. Also checked out car-part.com and they have used tanks with no holes (unlike the yards around here) for $75 to $80. Going to try Predate's method first, and then maybe spring for the used tank just to be safe as I do take the kids around in it during the winter.

It seems to be seeping out in two small areas next to each other. I brushed it with a brass brush but it still has rust around it and gas seeping out so not sure what else to do. It isn't an actual hole so the screw trick would most likely fail for this issue and potentially cause more issues. I thought about the junkyard but they puncture the tanks to drain them so no go there. $130 for a new tank so I may just bite the bullet.

I have a crappy 97 Ford Explorer that we were planning to get rid of next year. The damn thing started leaking gas this week. I bought some of that permatex putty patch and it said it would stick when wet too. I cleaned the rusty tank best I could and used vinegar as a degreaser (saw it on YouTube) Then I kneaded the putty to mix in the hardener and wiped one last time then applied to the leak. Waited 30 minutes and reapplied more around the edges. Mowed the lawn and went back to check and the whole thing fell off, soaking wet with gas. Has anyone had any luck with this permatex putty stuff or have you used anything else that actually works? I may have to drop the tank and drain it but was hoping to skip that step. Let me know what works, if anything. Thanks.

Surprised you didn't go for this model. You wouldn't have to leave the field so early!!

Happy Birthday Eddie. Enjoy the weekend.

2014 HuntingNY Whitetail Challenge
Zem18 replied to WNYBuckHunter's topic in 2014 HuntingNY Whitetail Challenge
I'd feel left out so I guess I'll enter. Count me in. -
Real close to Tioga, just east of the border actually. Walked down Tracy Creek to get there, right at the end of the tri cities runway. Kids threw rocks and caught toads and crayfish. Was a fun coupe of hours. Now they can go to bed early cuz it's back to school. Hope you feel better.

Took the kids fishing today on the Suckyhanna and my BIL caught a slob of a smallies and I caught his baby cousin. Pics below.

It was called the mini Glock before and after the lawsuit against them but it does not operate like a Glock. Sweet shooting little .22

Was at Gander yesterday and the had all kinds of .22 for sale. 525 packs going for $25+ tax. Most were selling for 5 to 6 cents a round. Update on the pistol. I cleaned it up Thursday night. Finally got out around 5pm today to shoot it. I started with Remington golden bullets, 36gr hollow points. I put 60 rounds through it without any issues whatsoever. I then tried the federal bulk pack, 36gr8 bullets. First bullet fired and had a FTE. I had to pry it out with my keys. Second round fired and had another FTE. I emptied the magazine manually by hand and reloaded with the Remingtons. Fired all the dems with no issues. Guess I have a 525 pack of .22lr to trade for some Remington golden bullets. Shot a total of 75 rounds before dinner. Will get out to put more through it tomorrow. Got some cleaning to do tonight though

Dang, how did I miss this? Congrats on selling it so quickly. Wish I had seen it sooner than SOLD.

Need a new backpack
Zem18 replied to Waldershrek's topic in Hunting Gear Reviews and Gear Discussions
Was at Wal-Mart last night and they are selling these packs (timberhawk) One was $29.99 and the other was $49.99 - just wanted to let you all know in case you were interested. -
I too clean the leaves and twigs away so I can move if need be and be quiet about it. Your scent is minimal that you leave behind by doing this and the earthy smell is actually masking most of the scent off your boots. I have a tree next to a large rock that I set up by each year for rifle season. It is in the middle of a bench, with runs along the bottom of the next hill and the top of the one I walk up. I clear all the way around the tree so I can stretch the legs as I stand most of the day. I also still hunt if I can't stand sitting and waiting as we have some acreage to cover. A ground blind is a good idea as well if you want to stay out of the elements. I like to still hunt when it rains or snows. You can move quietly and sneak up on em and feed em some lead.
