Lower the legal shooting distance for bow????
SteveB replied to ELMER J. FUDD's topic in Bow Hunting
Funny how all those wanting to hunt backyards NEVER talk about the very real issue of recovery rights. If surrounded by anti's, how do you legally recover? Or do they just go get the deer, sneak back at night, leave them or ?. -
If any of these are real concerns, then you should be able to easily show that it has happened in the states where crossbows have been included. Show some facts that will be there if your concerns are probable - waiting for your backup.

Lower the legal shooting distance for bow????

I've said it before: No shooting in any residential area considered unless the target is placed against the shooters own house. -

Aren't you going to need permission to recover from those same neighbors when the deer you shoot makes it off the 65ft wide strip? -
So does any weapon that has cams, 80% let off a trigger, and a red dot scope. Or we put all archery equipment in the bow season. There - settled.

There - fixed it for you. This one too

It was shot in a grave yard - that is fact. That it wouldn't bother you is fine. But someone hunting in a cemetery where my family is had better worry about things other then legalities. It disrespect - plain and simple. Not to mention the damage a hit deer could do on a death run. Legal or not, it will not be tolerated around mine.

CNN was hoping for ratings and chatter - it worked. Ted was hoping for atta boys - that worked too. Both did it for a payday - nothing else.

Big Boar and Coldbrook are 2 different places. I went to Big Boar 10 years ago because I wanted to make a kill with my longbow before hunting with it that fall - and I wanted some fresh pork. Accomplished both and had a great time. Walked the whole place twice in 4 hours before shooting my pig at less then 15 yds which I could have done in the first hour. Saw a bunch of critters - buffalo, elk, sheep and goats, sitka deer, a lot of hogs, and others. None where bothered at all by our presence. Fun day with a couple friends, a little exercise, successful test of my equipment, and some great fresh pork. Probably do it again someday. But it wasn't a hunt.

Neither keith warren or Wild River Whitetails have anything to do with hunting.

I do it - use onion soup for the cook, pull when tender, add bbq sauce and back in the crock pot.

If my family was buried there, I would.

How about the % per hunter(crossbow) of crossbow hunting accidents vs the % per hunter (compound/trad) of compound/trad hunting accidents. If they are are inherently dangerous as you say you should be smart enough to find and post them. Or you could just stay with an uniformed opinion.

HEY how about a CROSSBOW topic section???

Bow forum is fine. As long as the anti's don't crusade to disrupt every discussion. -

Good idea for croosBOW education. No need for a xgun forum as there is no such thing - except in a few imaginations. -
Guts stay in the woods for me.

Again -back it up with stat's from the places where legal. If true, it should be easy for you. Saying or thinking it does not make it true.
-
I have no problem with the 500 ft - I want to have a say in someone hunting 50 yds from my deck or bedroom window. If they lower it, you will still need permission to recover for when your deer makes it 51 yds before dying. Most who will give you permission to recover will give you permission to be under 500 ft IF they are asked beforehand.

You can bet the smart shops will adjust their attitude when they are put in the right season. The even smarter ones will do it now and not wait. My local shop has the commercial block targets and crossbows are no issue with them. A real pro shop should have real backstops. As far as safety, the walls and ceiling have a bunch of reminders from sky drawing, premie release compound shooters.

Still waiting for the stat's from the crossbow states showing we should have safety concerns.
-
Spend a little time over to Archery talk and see the number of bow hunters talking about having pins from 60 to 100 yds. All claim confidence in hitting kill zones consistency at those ranges. More then a few videos claiming to be kills at those ranges.
-
Again - if the safety concerns are true, please post the stat's from the crossbow states backing it up.

Back a while ago, I heard 2 guys shopping in a Walmart complaining about how nothing was made in the USA anymore. Both where wearing IBEW jackets and hats. Irony on a couple levels there.
-
Not near you, but Greg's Archery in Moravia allows them. These shops with the attitude need to be remembered when crossbows are legalized and rewarded accordingly.
