It would not protect 60% of the yearlings in the 3 wmu's around me or in much of central and western ny. I oppose it in my area for this reason. There is support here for it from many who think that because it may help in other areas, then we should have it here when the facts say otherwise.

Very true. But those who are in fact are practicing or support mandatory statewide AR programs often pass it off (intentionally or not) as QDM - like the thread starter. When it fact AR has very little to do with true qdm programs.

Then you are not talking about states with mandatory qdm. You are talking about buck management only which is only a small part of qdm.

What states do mandatory qdma (qdm)? Can't see how that is possible.

Practicing I understand. But sighting in you need to eliminate the varibles inherent with offhand shooting to ensure the gun and load is grouping.

DAS recurve - 53lb with 500 gr Goldtip - blazing 180 fps. Same setup for last 4 years for the most part.

I hunt and kill deer with a recurve at about 180 fps. It's not the bow. Hard to tell from the video how wired those deer were. By their reaction I would bet they where on high alert eventhough feeding. A 300 fps bow would have the same result if so. Learning when to shoot is as important as how to shoot - and can take far longer to learn - it did for me.

For one with the skills, there is nothing unethical about it. For those with the skills, it is an extremeely poor choice. I've never tried it - but you guys have convinced me to do a "Texas" shot this year

I take advantage of it but really don't see the purpose. If it where limited to something like flintlock only, I could understand a bit, although it is still a gun. Recurve, longbows are seperate for bow season - why 2 guns seasons?

Both statements are true - easy to see at the IBO website with scores posted for the last 10 years or so for the Worlds. No guesses, opinions or conjecture - just facts backed with results.

After having been shot, gutted and dragged to a vehicle, I doubt much the deer feels disrespected being hung by the neck while being skinned and cut into little pieces. Either way works fine.

Just curious as to what you consider a mature deer.

I live less then 10 miles from where they first escaped several years ago. Still extremely rare for them to be seen, let alone killed. And I know of no one who knows enough about them to be able to target them and realisticaly expect to kill one or even see one. Even finding sign is rare and when you do, you can't coint on finding more there at a future date. Can they live here? Certainely. Thrive? Doesn't seem to be happening after several years. Of course maybe all the mountain lions are keeping them in check

Are they a problem in Russia (parts similar to NY) like we hear from the south in the USA? I agree - would shoot any I see. But I am starting to think the hysteria about what might happen is not being supported by what is happening. Just a great headline.

Nothing in it will hide your scent from a deer. Might work very well as an attractant scent - completely different then trying to hide an oder from a deer.

The FEW that are around hardly warrents a title "Runnibg Wild". Pawle - what you say is true in southern climates. Are they any places in the world where the southern hog problem exists in a climate like NY's?

No scent can hide a particular odor from a deer. They simply smell the new one AND the original.

My post from the other scent thread: If smelling like a barn or the animal pee or crap of your choice gives you more confidence, by all means use it. But it does not and cannot hide you from a deer - they simply smell you and the other scent/scents.

You can reduce your scent - wait a week between showers and see if your inefficient human nose can tell the difference . Possibly reduce it enough to where you are seen as less of a threat. What cannot be done is to hide/cover your scent from a deer with another scent.
