  1. Problem is people often confuse scent reduction with scent cover. Two entirely different things. You can reduce scent - you cannot hide it.
  2. I don't waste the time or money. It is impossible to hide one scent from a deer by adding another - they simply process both at the same time. Their sense of smell is equal to or better then a dog - if you could hide/cover a scent, tracking dogs would not exist.
  3. I won't answer here - don't think it is a good topic for for public discussion and record. Happy to talk about it face to face with anyone.
  4. Legally may be a gray term here. Notice I said "maybe".
  5. ASAT or Predator only. Needs to break up your outline TO A DEER. Color and photo realistic imaging means nothing.
  6. Story I heard: Buck had been hanging in the large cemetary and was basicaly tame - people would walk right up to it. Guy found out part of the cemetary was privately owned, so he contacted the out of state owner for permission to hunt, which he got. So he then dressed in street cloths - like the deer was used to - walked up to it on the land he had permission, and shot it. If true, I would keep it under the radar too, as there would be no pride for me in a kill that way.
  7. Had no respect for him before he got sick. His getting sick does not change my feelings. But I wish him the best physically and certainly no ill will.
  8. Would like to read those studies - got a link?
  9. While I wish him the best, I was not a fan of his hypocracy. That has not changed with his illness.
  10. Hard to put an arrow thru a spot that does not exist.
  11. It is if you have relationships with the neighbors that allow you recovery rights from their land. Because you will need them sooner or later.
  12. There still is no area in the thoracic cavity that is above the lungs and below the spine. The cavity expands and contracts with the lungs. This expansion of the cavity is what moves air into and out of the lungs. No space is create in the cavity by the lungs expanding and contracting. Not much to do with the original post other then the arrow did not hit a space that does not exist.
  13. Pretty much agree with all of this.
  14. Impossible. The lungs fill the entire thorac (sp) cavity on a living mammal. They actually fill space around and part way up the spine. Deer that are claimed to be hit in this mythical spot are seldom if every recovered to verify the actual hit. Where we think we hit and where the arrow actually goes are often quite different. There is an extremely slim chance of a deer surviving a high double lung hit, but is so rare few will ever see it. There is no void "below the spine and above the lungs"
  15. Only if it is a public right of way. Most right of ways are privately owned.
  16. I have to ask - you shot it Sunday night and posted twice Monday about going back to look for it? Why where you not looking Mon morning? By Monday night, it was spoiled if dead - for sure by now.
  17. If you have ever shot a doe, you have most likely shot a doe with fawns - they just weren't with her. They are very few true dry does and the the only other does without fawns would be some yearlings or one that lost their fawns due to vehicles, etc.
  18. Attractant - yes. Cover - no. Nothing hides one oder from another to a deer.
  19. A couple: "Should I shoot this one/is it a shooter"? "What do think this one will score"?
  20. What is a "wtf"? Needed on a family site?
  21. Welcome and good luck. Ignore those who need ignoring.

    qdma

Dave - great post! I am 100% for the education and encouragement of true qdm principals thru positive persuasion and example. But will speak out against misguided attempts to force bits and peices selectively pulled from those principals, especially when they are now trying to do end arounds by using the legislative process.
