  1. Split - sounded like you where painting with a broad brush - clear now you weren't. I think there are a great many on either side who interchange AR and QDM equally. Phade did a magazine article a couple years back and interviewed me and a couple others on mandatory AR. I had the same opinion then as now and he put that in. In the next several weeks, I had no less then a doz hunters asked me why I could possibly be against QDM - when in fact QDM was never mentioned in the article - only AR. :
  2. Iv'e never attacked anyone for practising QDM - or even hinted that doing so was wrong in any way. I have and will contine to stand firm against any type of statewide mandatory AR. And before the accuasations of spike shooter, brown and downer etc start, I have shot 2 bucks in the last 10 years - both would have been legal under AR and both where 1.5. Get to shoot a lot of does, so letting any buck less then mature walk for now - passed probably over a 100 AR legal bucks in that time frame.
  3. Overwhelming majority thinks they are one in the same.
  4. Percentages alone do not tell the whole story. NYS also has one of the lowest rates in the country of overall accidents. Actually have seen studies suggesting a higher rate of hunters wear BO here then in many states where it is required. No one I have seen post here disputes the fact that wearing BO makes you more visible. What is disputed, and with sound reasoning is, will enacting another law have any significant impact on the number wearing BO. Or will it simply be another feel good law like the hand's free sell phone one?
  5. Larry - I've read the same. That even in a so called balanced age structured herd, a majority of the breeding is done by 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 year old bucks. The older ones will lock up with 1 doe for her cycle and end up breeding only a small handful of does. The young horny teenagers are running around nailing every thing else. None of these quoting "leading whitetail deer and wildlife biologist's" ever say how a fawn sired from a 1.5 is any less healthy then one sired from a 3.5 or older. The health of the deer in an area is determined by available habitat balanced with population - age of the daddy has nothing to do with it regardless of how many times someone wants to say it.
  6. Thanks - all relaxed here. It most likely may not have been your intention to appear to join to promote your site, but it is easily veiwed that way. Many do that on different forums making it a difficult line to walk sometimes. Welcome here and good luck.
  7. The chart shows an average not counting the 1st year. What year where the AR's 1st implimented?
  8. Reading from a chart - all numbers are aprox. 1.5 down 400 while 2.5 and older are up only a little over a 100. And the pre AR % of 1.5 looks about 58% - not the 70 to 80% number often put forth.
  9. Here - in another thread we have all enjoyed. ;D http://huntingny.com/forums/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=108.0;attach=2231 Pg 37 of the Antler Restrictions - What are your thoughts Larry's post about 2/3 of the way down.
  10. Thanks for the link. It shows the last 6 years the buck take has been increasing - aprox 34% total. During the same time the buck take has decreased significantly in the AR regions - down 30%.
  11. SteveB, thanks for that fun fact, don't forget to mention harvest is down ACROSS THE ENTIRE STATE OF NY. Whoops, forgot to mention that one eh? Is the harvest down 30% across the entire state? Just pointing out there is a 30% reduction in the area some are claiming there are more bucks to be harvesting. If they are even more then before AR, why is the drop in kills so significant?
  12. Pretty sure that's not how the DEC estimates deer populations and the allotment of DEC per unit. Yes, you are correct - every humter must report all kills for DEC to be able to evaluate sucess rates. The reports are part of the equation they use. Would be a far greater factor if compliance was not so pitiful.
  13. And yet the harvest is down aprox 300 bucks or 30%. Same thing - the overall buck harvest in Pa is down by a huge number over pre AR.
  14. 2 entirely different animals. Attractant and curiousity scents are can work but are most likely best used in minimal amounts. A deers nose is far too sophisticated to be fooled in any way by one scent hiding/covering another. They simply process multiple scents individualy at the same time. They can do 3 things - give you a calming placebo effect, draw hunters into spending money, and scare deer.
  15. One of the best things we can do is to report every kill and encourage everyone we know to do the same.
  16. Thanks for clearing up the fact you are using a free nfp forum to promote a commercial site to sell clothing etc. Thanks again.
  17. Actually no on knowlegeable represents 1:1 as optimum or desired. 3:1. 20:1 is rare to close to impossible to find.
  18. Looks like a commercial site to me. Are you considering a sponcership here?
  19. No - my only agenda is choice for the hunter. And any true qdm supporter knows that mandatory ar has little to nothing to do with qdm. I probably shoot more does and pass more young bucks (not just 1.5) then most ar proponents that want there choice to be the only one. Did you visit the punch blog to see how little info there is there? Do you know about the failed CNY Whitetail proposal?
  20. Mr punch has his own CNY blog imitating a qdm site that vague enough so I suspect he has an agenda that he prefers to keep hidden. At least until some people sign up as "members" so he can claim support for whatever he has in mind. Post your agenda as to where you are going with your blog. I would not be surprized if it is an attempt to resurrect the failed CNY whitetails proposal.
  21. Pretty much zero info on who you are or your agenda. I suspect you are part of the fail CNY Whitetail group from a couple years back.
  22. Is that ethical according to Ted ;D
  23. Is he the guy preaching family values who had a son with another woman while married to his current wife - and refused to support him until court ordered?
  24. Another ex Sprint here as well. My company gave me a Sprint phone - I had to forward the # to my personal cell. Here in the figer lakes.
