  1. Must be workin for alot of people!! pa alone has over 1000 deer farms and is a multi million dollar a year business. ny has about 115 farms and is very lucrative. $100.000 dollars a year is very lucrative in many eye's. Again..Lack of knowledge when it comes to feeding pen raised deer. They eat the same grain and minerals that they get in the wild. The reason they are so big is nothing but genitics and age. Some of us might see deer like that if there was a little less killing of the little bucks but i guess we will have to wait for the state of ny to finish the job they started. Then we will see what ny can produce in the wild!!!
  2. There is alot of misinformed people that talk about deer behind fences. There are preserves that are run right, have 1000 acres plus fenced in and they do great business. I know of one farm alone that just had their 125 hunter this year in pa and i know of one that just hit the 100 mark. Some of the smaller places mabey could improve on their operation to put it in a better light but just like anything else,Times change and those places will get weeded out. The high fence business is doing great in todays world with less land to hunt, high leases and unsafe places to hunt.Iike i said people are on both sides with deer behind fences but i can,for a fact show you of some great places that have hunts. A guy can pay 3 grand to go to say canada or iowa to hunt for 5 days for a chance at a 160 nto 180 inch deer or pay the same price and get a awesome place to stay, great food, great people and walk out with a deer. The tame deer thing in most places dont happen. We have a couple here that would never leave for any reason but thats rare. You can take a tame deer at one place and move that deer just once to a new strange location with different deer and they turn into a total different beast. I will say that there has been some negitive lights shown on high fence hunting but if some would go tour and checkout a well ran 1000 plus acre preserve i think they would get a whole new picture.
  3. Trust me when i say that deer was ten grand today. The farmer is known real well and he will get his money in restitution. As far as the semen goes its not 10grand for a straw from that buck. Hes nice but in our deer world he is just average.. The buck in my avatar scores 305 this year and his 1/2 cc straws sell for $1500 and we are sold out for this year. I know people have mixed reviews on the deer behind the fence and thats fine with me but these deer are our's,on our property and in the deer business they are just like livestock and raised as such. Money is made and trust me money is spent to raise these things and that boy will find out how much money that is!!!!
  4. How heavy are these stands. Are they lighter than the summits???
  5. Yaeh that is not a ny tag for sure.If you double click on the pic you can see how big it is and it looks like there is a hole punched in it??? Mabey its a transport tag with hunter info??? Not sure what it is but its a great deer where ever it was taken.
  6. That is clear enough for me. I kinda took that first post as there were not alot of deer in your area. So harvest would not be real easy. I myself can see on both side of the fence on the ar deal, The part i dont understand is some of the ones that are against ar without ever thinking about givin it a shot are the same ones that say there are no deer in there area or atleast no bucks. If you never do anything to change something...Well......
  7. Great bucks for sure. I dont see the 23 points on the one buck from the angle of the pic's. Mabey a bunch on the backside. Congrats on a couple great deer.. Who ever they are!!!
  8. Doc you really have to figure out what side of the fence(face) you are going to talk from.If you go back to post #76 you say its real hard if not impossible to shoot any any kind of deer in your woods. But now you say life is good in your woods. Its not that it really has bearing on my hunting but i just cant figure out where you are at in your posts!!!
  9. You bet ya dave.I do hunt over feeders..700 acres of the best whitetail feeders there are. Some of you guys on here are a joke,You make one statement of how hard it is to kill a freakin doe or even a stupid button buck but then you wont even entertain the idea of something that might make YOUR hunting and alot of others better. You say if we let the little ones then the guy next door will drop them...Wrong..not if ar is in place.I really dont give a rats behind what you think of me or what i have to say. When ar,choice doe harvests and all else that goes into deer management works for a few on here it will work for all. Even the guys that bitch that they dont see deer...That kills me because none of you have ever said one word about what you are doing or would like top see be done to fix that problem...Thats a joke!!!
  10. Wow...3 years tug???? Man be very carefull with that stand. Thats a long time for a stand if there has been no repairs or any hunting from it!!! Safety belt for sure! Good luck!!
  11. Steve how would it not help?? If all the spikes and 4 pointers alone make it untill the next year you have that many more 6 and 8's running around the next year.Yes some will be taken but not all and those will make 2.5 years old. There's no way your going to get them all and in 2 or 3 years you will have many 3.5 years olds and up runnin around.
  12. Yes,It must be true. If you have spent any amount of time in the woods,Studied your game and have any kind of deer at all in your area, you should be able to find the little bucks and does. I am sure all places are not the same in populations of deer but mabey there lies the problem.Less harvest, less tags ar implemented, land improvements, one buck a year, shorter seasons and a little work on the hunters end and then mabey you will have deer.I really doubt any HUNTER will give up the sport because they have limits on buck size,They still take does if there is doe tags and if not im sure they would not put ar in that mgmt area. The young hunters still get to hunt any deer they choose so that fight is out the door. Its no doubt it wont work in all area's and for the most parts you dont have hunters going to areas that have low deer numbers, cept mabey the adk hunters and that wont change because its in their blood and they are true HUNTERS,not just harvesters. Some say it wont work and some say it will but i know the area i hunt that has it in place is working. Proof is in the sightings and harvest pics. The state is going slow to expand the ar areas and i think they will keep going a few at a time untill it is most places. Slow and steady as to not pi$$ off everyone at the same time....I belive its coming!!
  13. Yup i am heading back down to letchworth on friday....Bow and muzzle for me.. Between the park and our farm,,I wonder if its legal to have the smokepole on one hanger and the bow on the other hanger...In the same tree!!!!
  14. Yes and if it is a ny buck atleast he passed on some of that blood flow before he got taken out!!!
  15. Cabinboy really how much work and preperation does it take to go out and shoot a doe or a yearling buck!!!! Walk in any woods that have deer tracks and food...Boom..work done... I know on some parks that have ar in place now, they also have a rule in effect that says young hunters under the age of 17 can shoot any buck they see... I believe all of ny state could put that law into effect and then the fight about the kids and new hunters not being able to shoot would not fly!!
  16. Whats the chance that buck was killed in an ar area!!! lol
  17. Yes great pic's and hope all those little guys make it untill next hunting season and you will have a great batch of 2 year old's. If they outsmarts ya's again next year...look out.... Some great mature bucks..See they have their own ar going on!!!! lol
  18. That is all fine with me really as i know there are less deer in the adk and ar might not worrk up there but not all 6's are in the adk's and there are many that are speaking in favor of ar down in the valley of the 6's so we will see i guess. Im with the other post that i hate to see someone give up hunting because of rules you have to follow but those same people would probably quit hunting for any givin reason. If you are a true hunter,You always will be a true hunter,No matter the law's!!!!!!!
  19. Steve863 I know of one pic on the harvest thread of a book buck taken in an ar area. I believe it would take a couple 3 years to show what ar will do in a special area...Cant wait to see some 6's on that ar list!!!!!!!!!!
  20. Congrats dave.. Great end of the line buck...Sounds like the party was good also!!!
  21. Ruts over...Filling their belly at night.... Rest,Hide,Not burning energy!!! Could be a number of factors. We found the same problem on our farm also..Bucks shut down except 1 basket 6 point that seemed to be out every time we were!!!
  22. I would be open to speaking with someone to pop a few yotes off our farm. I would rather not have dogs running around as it is somewhat close to our deer herd. They are thick is this area and they are yippin and yappin every night. They even ran 3 does off a soybean field last night with their yippin and coming in closer to the deer. They didnt wait for the dogs to hit the field. They turned tail and slinked back into the swale. This farm,I think would be a great place to make a video as its made up of fields and very little woods for them to hole up in. I would think they would be easy pickings for the right guys!!! Feel free to pm me with any intrest. We are in area 6g with fort drum on the border with our land!!!
  23. 13..Thats a great problem to have..kinda. Please dont take this as a slam because its not... That brings back my statement of the dumbest deer in the woods. You might not have seen those does because they are a little brighter than yearling bucks. They wont come out till later and they will figure out a hunter real fast. Most places have good numbers of does but some hunters dont see them because the deer might have one up on some of the hunters that dont care how they hunt. ie, downwind, weather, movement smart deer figure dumb hunters out real quick!! I have a great number of deer on our 700 acres both bucks and does because of the management we do.... Doe harvest in our part of the world is imparitive to keep the numbers in check with the land.
  24. Well i guess i didnt mean that to be pointed at you doc.It was said as a reply as to how many on here say you cant eat the horns. Why take horns if A. You cant eat them B. You dont care how big they are.If thats the case why not just take a doe. The post was my OPINION on what I do on My piece of property. It was just to kinda say what can be done with selection,Management,Choices. Again this is a place ..or so i thought..to get and give any advice or help that might help someone. Ny state gives so many tags away besides doe tags that its almost impossible to not to be able to fill a freezer. You might have to transfer tags or travel a bit. So i guess what some of you are saying is that if ny state was to ever have laws say like iowa or somewhere where its not possible to shoot 2 bucks and a half dozen does every year..you would hang your guns up!!
  25. Doc you wont hear it from me. Mabey i am in the minority here but myself i get no satisfaction pulling the trigger on the easiest and probably the dumbest in the woods. I just had a basket 6 walk by me tonight at 15 paces and he was the first deer out. Then guess what came out just as i was packing it up on another great year...You guessed it 3 adult does and a fawn. Mind you this is on land that gets a fair share of hunting pressure. I just cant see anybody that can drop the hammer on a yearling buck could not just pass that deer and take the next doe.. Like you say..meat is meat and you cant eat the horns...so why take one with horns??? Anyone i know that has taken a mature whitetail buck was just over powered with joy...Chest out, hand slappin jumpin for joy..As should be.Now be honest with yourself..How many times have you yourself or someone you know looked down at the ground when you or they said......Yeah i shot LITTLE buck this year...Well if you have to look at the ground and say the word little it makes me think...Mabey they should not have shot it. How many times have you seen someone look at their shoes when they say they filled some doe tags??? I don't... I took a 130ish buck with the bow and let atleast 10 little bucks walk. All through bow, muzzle and rifle/shotgun..But i did fill the freezer with 4 does this year....Nope did not look at my shoes!!!!
