  1. Congrats on a nice buck!!!! That's what i call an all around hunter and keeper of the land!! Corn plot's,chicory plot's, cut trails through the wood's..and all that with two bumb knee's!!! Awesome!!!
  2. Congrats..Your life will never be the same again!!!! Is that one of the best moments in yur life or what? I still remember my first one ans shakin in my boots the whole time. Your kid will now also be a life long bowhunter after the thrill that he went through today also.I guess we can add two more bow hunters to the brotherhood!!!
  3. Welcome back!!! Just in time for things to catch fire in the woods. Now go find your seat and get the peace and quiet you so much deserve!!! Thanks for the service and good luck on the buck of your dreams!!!
  4. It will be good to go come shotgun season.Thats where mine is waiting for me!! I will be back down to letchworth for some bow and shotgun and that scent will be put to the test again!!! If you still have an antlerless tag or a doe tag get back out there and try that scent...You might not like what you see come running in without a buck tag in your pocket though!!! Use at your own risk!! lol
  5. Yup he is in the freezer for sure....Ray charles could follow that blood trail!!!
  6. Great newz and to get the kid involved in the recovery must have been cool!!!!
  7. Well thats some of the dumbest things i have heard yet.If that was the case and the bucks came charging in to any scent then they would be coming in to any scent they smell in the woods. Your beer, your limburger chese sandwhich or your aqua velva! He can say what he will but coming from someone that has had watched deer in close range for many years,Scents work alot, The gland i agree with and i think a whitetail might check out a certin scent laid out in the woods but the question is,,,,Do they have a positive reaction to it???? Try laying a scent trail of new car scent the next time you go in and then try a true doe in estrus or better yet pure heat scent and see which way the bucks go when they hit each of those scent trails!!!
  8. Nothing but stinger cut on contact for this guy!!! I have a swithback at 60lbs and have blown through many and this year i broke my collar bone on the 28th of sept and after a month it was for sure i was not using that bow. I went out and bought a little boys boy..A Sidekick.. I could only pull back 38lbs so thats what i went to the tier with. I was worried crapless about penatration if i got a chance at a buck.Well long story short i took that 198lbs 8pt and at 22yds with that stinger i got 6 inches of behind the shoulder meat with no pass through. Not a great bloodtrail with one hole but man did that 6in do some damadge on the inside.I guess low pound bows should shoot cut on contacts.Either way they have to be cut yur butt..SHARP!!!!
  9. Awesome buck shawn...Those spine shots sure save the tracking job!!!! Genesee..... I hunt mostly on the west side and alot of my time is spent around the hogsback!! To say sometimes things get interesting hunting the river bottom is an understatement!!! You know what its like as you have some of the best hunting in ny right in yur backyard. I really like the look on the east side as its much larger and more like big woods hunting!!! I have been hunting the park for like 17 years and i have learned what those whitetails will do to survive the hunting season.Sometimes its almost unfair to the deer where i have learned to put stands. I have had upwards of 30 deer in front of me on that riverbottom at times and unreal to just sit there and watch what they do.Most places i see them they just bed down and listen to all the bangin goin on around them... It would take either a fool or a couple young gun hunters full of piss and viniger to shoot a doe or small buck in those places..But they are there for the taking thats for sure!!!!! Good luck on the park this year...We may cross paths sometime and not even know it!!!!
  10. Adrenalin kicks in when a deer gets worked up either with rutting or hunters running them hilly-willy through the woods. I believe thats one of the biggest factors of the condition of the meat!
  11. Beautiful buck, maybe that antler restriction is working. Thanks for the wishes. He sure was a stud and i must say i think the antler restriction is a positive on the park.I have been lucky enough with this buck to take 4 bucks off the park that make the book's. I took them before the ar and after. With the way the park is set up its a trophy hunters paradise. If you are willing to do whatever it takes to put your tag on a fully mature whitetail...thats the place to be.You must be willing to go into and worse yet out of any terrain it takes and to be able to pass all yearlings and alot of small racked 2yr olds and if you want a good way to lose all your hunting partners...Take a doe down there!
  12. Thanks for the word's.He was a stud thats for sure.He rough scored at 129 5/8 and clocked in at 198lbs.I have been lucky enough to take a number of great deer at the park and everyone makes you either love what you do or makes you a freakin fool to even think about going into some of those hell holes. Every deer i take has some special thing that i remember about the deer and the hunt itself. This boy will be remembered for his massive steer like neck....30in around with the tape pulled tight...A beastly neck!!
  13. Nightmare because thats what i get when i think about dragin out of some of the hell holes i seem to end up in!!!!!
  14. Coming home from letchworth sunday there were like a dozen deer smashed on the side of road on 390 and i saw 3 different live bucks on their feet at 11am. They are chasin down there for sure but it seems like alot of that is going on in the middle of the highway's!!! I should also say i only saw one smashed 3 days earlier on the way down!!!
  15. Good things will come out of this doc!!! I broke my right collarbone on the 2nd day of the northern zone bow season and missed all of bow and have not even dared to shoot a gun. What a killer to sit on the couch during hunting season!! I didnt sit long,1 month later and having to go out and buy a little boys sidekick set at 38 pounds. With alot of help from my local archery shop.(He would pull it back and i would hold it) got it shootin darts at 20 yards i was able to go south and get a nice buck.Think positive and good things will come around!!! I cant imagine having to mess with my eye everyday!!! Good Luck!!!
  16. Well here is a quick pic of the ridgerunner taken on letchworth this weekend. He has a 30in neck came in at 198lbs and figure to score around 125in area.. Gotta love what you do to be taking on 198lbs of whitetail buck on letchworth state park...would'nt change for the world!!! 17 years and counting of pullin great deer out of that park....I just cant figure out what keeps drawing me back to all that pain!!!
  17. Here is a ridge runner taken on letchworth this past weekend. He came in on a scent trail i laid with some pure heat and was taken at 22 yards. This boy has a 30 inch neck weighed in at 198lbs and i figure him to score arond the 125in mark.Has anyone ever had to drag a 198lbs buck out of letchworth...not fun..Then again it must be seeing i keep doing it every year!!!
  18. Shawn i hunt the hogsback alot and also trail 17 for the two miles around to where it meets up with trail 15.Its a big area with lots of ridges and the does are hitin the acorns hard and just bedding on the ridges. All the bucks that came down through did just that..came down from the top..I think they are runnin the does around the farm fields at night then head down the gorge and keep runnin down there.I did see one of the bucks go to the bottom and bed but the rest just kept on moving.
  19. Not that weekend but we have a cabin for the last week of bow and first week of shotgun. We have a 125 acre farm that boarders the saftey zone on the highbanks road.We stay at the farm when we bowhunt when there is just a couple guys and then when its the party weeks and there is a cabin full of us....well that i think would be a little crazy over at the farm!!!
  20. Yes we that have deer can bring our does in heat at any givin time!! I have a breeding herd so i bring mine all in together so they all fawn together. The scent guys really dont care about the fawning time or if they even breed. They bring a different group of does into heat mabey once a week spaced out for the breeding season. So that way buyers will be getting pure doe in heat urine. You just have to remember there is doe in heat and then there is pure standing heat. You can only get that in a small window of time and that is where the pheromones some speak of come into play, which lasts longer than some may think as long as it is kept cold.
  21. Still on the park!!! Will be home sunday afternoon and will get some pic's on!!! Gunna have to work fast to get him caped out and cleaned up!! Going to be back down here next thur, fri, sat.
  22. Yes believe it or not i had to buy a little sidekick set at 38lbs...lol...Broken collarbone will set you back on poundage real fast!! Worked out great though..I ran a scent trail with some of real scents product called Pure Heat and when he hit that he was on a string..Walked past my stand at 21 yards and stuck his nose in the fake scrape i made and bingo...Problem was i only had 5 inches of in him,so with no exit hole it was touch and go on the tracking but the stinger did its job and he filled up inside within 125yards. As far as the saftey zone question i have been through the mt morris entrance since thur at 4 pm and there have been probably a mimimum of ten trucks parked in there. If you guys have your normal spots i would stick to them as that zone is getting tore up with hunters!!
  23. Mabey true but i sure would like to see how they locked up each single doe, left her in a stall long enough to pee,get enough urine to even fill one bottle and have her in her full estrus cycle...I would also think there would be very little produced even if it was done. But i guess people will do what it takes but i sure would like to see it.Code blue puts some numbers on a bottle and says it came from this such and such doe.How many bottles of urine do you think a whitetail deer coud fill in a pure heat cycle??
