Last year the buck I killed I watched for a few hours in the AM running a does from one thicket to another, after he went into the thicket for the last time I climbed down out of my summit and moved the stand about 70 yards closer to where all the action was and climbed back up.It took me about 25 minutes to climb 15 foot or so because I wanted to take my time and be as quite as possible. After I got all settled in he came back out about a half hour later (all relaxed this time!!!HAHA) and was quartering away from me at about 100yards.I bleated at him 10-12 times with no response, then I grunted at him 4-5 times and again nothing, then I let out one loud deep grunt and he turned and looked my way.All of a sudden his hair on his back came up like a dog getting ready to fight and stiff leg walk to withing 8 yards of my stand....that was it for him.If I had just sit there all I would have done is watched him walk off,I pulled out the kitchen sink and let him have it all and he came in on a string. You may scare a buck or 2 here and there if your doing this but the rewards are really worth it.Don't be afraid to try some out of the box thinking when you see the bruiser next time.

better dump your ammo stockpile
MACHINIST replied to verminater71's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
What about reloaders?Have to love it when the "smart leaders" get together to set some rules in motion for us simple minded people of the state.During one of their swell "get to know the SAFE ACT meeting" they told the whole group that it was legal to go out of state and get all the ammo you wanted, how does that work if you cant own "non coded ammo" they don't know what the hell they are doing much less what to do to make thing safer in this state.Screw them I am not getting rid of loading equipment, ammo or my livelihood!! -
Do Not Anger!!!!! lol I have one and I love the bow.Very fast, smooth, solid backwall and for a speed bow its actually really forgiving. When you get the bow in "stock configuration" it doesn't have a big valley so it wants to release very easily. The valley can be adjusted with the draw stops a bit on the bow.If you purchase one let me know and I can run you through it,very easy to change and makes a monster of a difference if you ask me.I wanted the skullworks but got mine used on Archerytalk for a song so I settled for camo.

Savage is a great choice or the Ruger American is also a great low priced rifle. My new Mossberg MVP really surprised me on the groups it gave me the other day so I would also say check them out

Trailer size for a quad
MACHINIST replied to virgil's topic in ATV's , UTV's, Dirtbikes & Snowmobiles
Bigger trailers also track a little better and wont sway around as much.Plus the resale on a trailer is way better with the 5x10's than any 4x8.Be prepared to have quite a few friends that want to borrow it and your vehicle to move stuff.Owning trailers and trucks can be a real pain in the azz because people think you have nothing better to do than move them on a weekend!!HAHA -

I sure am.My family owns and operates a small/mid size shop in Fulton. You can check out my shop at Fultontool.com.We are primarily a Milling machine shop, all CNC equipment.

Heading out in 2 weeks, never done a Bear hunt over bait.I have all my normal deer ear and I know I have what I need there.I bought a thermacell and have a bug suit also. What else would you tell me to bring?I also have a friends GoPro that I am going to try and film the hunt with.

The back tag thing I never understood either,I love being able to hunt the southern bow opener on Oct 1st now but it really messes with my "camp time".Myself and a few friends hit the northerntier every single year for the 4 days we can use last years tags.In fact towards the end of the year I let some deer pass that I would normally take because I don't want to burn my last tag and mess up the "Opening weekend retreat".Now that the Southern zone bow opens Oct 1st I spend less time at camp because I know the bucks I have a chance of killing here in the south are bigger and I have more chances because I am really not a good big woods hunter.Don't get me wrong,we do good with deer up in the NT but better here in the ST.I would love to see a longer muzzleloader/bow season after the regular season in the south.I feel we could push the end date to Dec 31st without a problem. The early season I really don't like to hunt with all the bugs, poison ivy, sweating and the possibility of loosing a animal from the heat, but its a open deer season and I live to hunt deer!!HAHA damned if I do....damned if I don't sort of thing I guess
-
Do you mean to have the southern open the same time?
-
Same here, what outfitter are you going to?

Not on all the nozzles now.I have a diesel truck and some stations have the smaller nozzles on them for all the diesel cars running around. The place down the road from me has full service and I caugth the kid pumping gas in my brand new diesel!!! made the owner tow it to my BIL shop and they drained flushed filled and a new filter in it for me at a cost of 400+ to the station owner.

Like I said, everyone is entitled to their own op pinion.Do I feel that anyone here doesn't want new people in the woods??NO I don't.Do I feel that some here are a little butt hurt that the future kids get a "special season"??Yes I do.I have mentored a few young hunters and you are 100% correct that about the marathon/sprint analogy, but if this starts them for wanting more then it does nothing but good. Not trying to start a fight just saying what I am feeling.
-
no I am just saying maybe a kid who wouldn't think of trying hunting may get pulled in to try it.I am not saying that hunting families don't need this.I know I have been aproeched about taking a few kids whos parent dont hunt to take their young boys out in the woods.Sorry I didnt clarify that very well.
-
I cant believe some of the responses here.I feel this is a great thing. Most kids in a hunting family wont need a "special" season to get in the woods and get hooked, but some kids that have never had the opportunity to hunt, maybe who parents or family hunts will capitalize on this and that's what its about. This sport that we all love so much is attacked every day in our schools, news and all around and the majority of what I see here is attacking the next possible generation of hunters that will be defending OUR rights for it.Why do any of you care if a kid gets a break,I am sure the majority of us would take a rebate on a product that we buy that didn't have a rebate offered 20 years ago,so how is this different.I would have never posted this if I thought this would get turned into such a hurtful thing toward future hunters.Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but I cant see attacking the next group of hunters in line because they have a opportunity you didn't when you were up and coming.Go ahead bash me all you want but this type of thing does nothing but hurt our sport.
-
Just wanted to post this up in case there were any 14-15 years old kiddo's out there wanting to get out early for some deer action! This is a very good thing in my eyes because it gets kids hooked on the sport when the weather is nice and deer are pretty active. http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/46245.html

Really who gives a flying F#*&.?Its going to get to the point that every baseball, basketball, football, hockey, golf or any sports figure has o donate blood to be tested every 2-3 months to prove they are clean. If you cant play by the rules then back out and be a man.Either that or let them all roid up and let their dorks fall off so they can be the best they and their drug dealer can be until their hearts give out. Then we we all shed a quick tear and go on o the next butt licker in line. Its pretty sad when real issues go by the wayside every single day and someones drug abuse is the top story.Same thing with the trevon deal. The last few weeks its how zimmerman saved a family, was near a crash or some other stupid thing. This country is so F***ed up!!!
