  1. Dude, that sucks. Guess I was just raised different, I can't seem to think of a way that trespassing and stealing would ever be ok
  2. It'd be nice if we actually had enough of them for a hunting season. I had some moose steaks while stationed at Ft Richardson, AK and they're awesome.
  3. Even money says that the sabots themselves are MMP's. I buy my bullets (300gr .452 Hornady XTP's) and sabots separately. You can buy 50 XTP's from BPS online for 20 bucks. 8 bucks gets you 50 black sabots from mmpsabots.com. If your gun has a tighter bore as mine does, you can try the MMP 3-petal EZ Load sabots, I'm going with them next order. If you're using T7, you're better off with Winchester T7 primers, they seem to not leave as much hard slag in the barrel.
  4. It also comes in pretty handy when I need to call the father-in-law or brother-in-law to come help me track or drag the deer out of the woods
  5. Sounds like a pre-paid deal would be your best bet. You can buy a certain number of minutes, then more once you use them up. You should be able to buy a phone, charger, and minutes for under $100, then you can buy minutes after that. I wouldn't think of going into the woods alone without my phone. I hunt some pretty rugged terrain and can just imagine slipping down a ravine and have to wait for someone to discover me. Pretty cheap insurance if you ask me.
  6. Really? Wife and I always get both. Both are high for first and second choices.
  7. That's not the only place I've read that about CVA and Traditions. It's just the one I remember off top of my head. Who's paying him has nothing to do with the cheap imported crap that these companies sold that got people hurt.
  8. http://randywakeman.com/DangerousMuzzleloadersAHistory.htm Good luck with it. Not telling you what to do, but I'd never let my wife or daughter shoot a CVA or Traditions. Cheap isn't worth injuries.
  9. I live on the border of 7J/7H, but both my father in law and my brother in law both live and hunt in 7R. They both got 2 DMP's, as did the other guys I know in 7R. They've all gotten 2 for years. Really doesn't make sense to me why you got denied for even one. :-/
  10. Whatever you do, just make sure it's not made by the old owner of CVA. CVA/Traditions have been known to have quality issues resulting in breech plugs failing and injuring the shooter.
  11. Woke up early to throw a couple whole chickens in the smoker to take for lunch out on our last boating excursion of the year. I didn't think to take my camera, but I grabbed binos from the smoke house and a cup of coffee and wandered over to see if anything was having breakfast in my hay field this morning. Six does, three fawns, and a NICE 5x5 buck never noticed me, until I tried to sneak back to the house and grab the camera. Try again tomorrow
  12. You can't tell me a fawn with spots, weather or not they're visible from your position (fyi, for a shot through the vitals, you'll need to see the side of the deer where the spots are), isn't obviously small. I'm never so hard up for a deer in the freezer that I'm going to shoot a baby. Hell, the amount of meat from it won't be worth the processing fee.
  13. He must hunt with a reduced load. There's no way with a 250-300 gr going 1400-2000 fps is not going to destroy a fawn and leave any edible meat. Why would he even shoot at a deer with spots? The first time a friend or hunting buddy tells me he shot a deer with spots will be the last time I talk to him.
  14. I found a grow on my property shortly after I bought it three years ago. The previous owners got foreclosed on and had obviously forgot about it. It's not like I could ignore it, I was scouting it for the upcoming deer season with a buddy of mine who's an ECO.
  15. I'm local to the area, I can keep an eye on it for ya if you want. Just PM me the location. Won't be able to prevent damages, but the more eyes on the place, the sooner damages will be noticed and authorities notified.
  16. I haven't seen any rubs yet on either of the properties I hunt in 7J/7H. I'm sure there are some, but I'm not delving too deep into the woods until start of bow season.
  17. Anyone want to hunt some squirrels in 7J.7H so they don't taunt me opening day of deer season?
  18. Yes. That's how I did it.
  19. My brother-in-law and I have decided that we want to try our hand at bear hunting. Since we're in 7J/7H and there's no bear season here, we're thinking the early ML season is our best bet since neither of us bow hunt here anyway. Does anyone have any input as to where I should start looking for areas to hunt? I'm not asking for your honey-hole, just point us in the right direction. This'll be the first time either of us has hunted any big game other than deer, so any tips would also be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Chris
  20. I think that's his plan, to try to break us all
  21. Yup. As in too much drop in economic production in this area due to his Kool-Aid drinkers taking time off from work to see him. Probably a week's worth of productivity wasted, just too much to compensate for. The best thing he can do for the economy is stay in DC and try not to waste any more of our money
  22. He's sleeping 30 miles from me tonight. Unfortunately, that's just too much drop to compensate for.
  23. Sheer strength won't help you, but it sure as hell won't hure. As a former member of the Army Marksmanship Unit, I can tell you it's impossible to hold your sights completely still without a solid rest, regardless of how many pull/push ups you do a week. The same principles hold true from gun to bow, The harder you try to hold your sights still off-hand, the more they'll move. Bowhunting is offhand hunting through and through. The key is to focus on your sights and pull the trigger (release the arrow) with the same sight picture every time. It also helps to pull the trigger at the same point in your breath cycle every time. The easiest way to do that is to exhale and hold for three seconds once you've acquired your desired sight picture.
  24. Yup, that's all we have here in NY. I can't imagine the deer in Nebraska taste any different than those here. I'd be willing to travel to hunt moose, elk, grizzly, antelope, or sheep, but not deer.
