It seems to be accurate enough. I highly doubt that anyone can say weather or not a deer cares if there arrow is an inch or two off the point of aim. He offered a drop away rest but as a rookie, I prefer to keep it simple. The WB has less moving parts and, therefore, less chance of failure at the moment of truth. What is your greatest memory while hunting?
cdmckane replied to DeerStalker22's topic in General Hunting
Greatest memory, for sure, is the first deer I shot. Took it with my .30-06 behind my house, with the wife watching from the window (last time she ever did that) at around 120 yds. I started to gut it, but was so nervous about screwing it up and spilling the guts, I had to call my brother in law to walk me through it. Damn it, if he didn't laugh and chuckle the entire time, I almost gave up right there. If it weren't for my desire to prove I could do it myself, I probably wouldn't have gone and taken a second deer a week later, dressing it entirely on my own. I still call him from time to time. Mostly to piss him off, but occasionally, to hold my light when I take shots at the end of legal light. I can't wait to get my daughter's hands inside a deer so that, by the time she's ready to hunt, it's second nature to her, unlike it was for me. -
Just got back from Klein's. Shot a couple different bows and ended up buying a new Parker Eagle. All set up with a whisker biscuit, 3 pin sight and quiver. Also bought 6 carbon arrows, but I pulled a Robin Hood and ruined 2 of them. Shot for 2 hours today, and he's throwing in 3 more hours of range time and a tune up before the season. He measured my wingspan and set the bow up with a 27" draw. I'm using a trigger release and a D loop. Here are pics of my first group with it as well as one of my ruined arrows. Yes. Training helped, but seeing my family was an extremely calming factor. If I wasn't calm and focused, I wouldn't have made it home. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I537 using Tapatalk

It has nothing to do with training, trust me. When your choices are killing the person in front of you or never seeing your wife and children again, you'd be surprised how calm you are. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I537 using Tapatalk

I can patch holes in the drywall. The intruder will not, however, be able to patch the 2 .45ACP holes in his chest and the one in his head. 2 in the chest and 1 in the head on each target. Basic combat pistol training.

I can see both sides. That's exactly why I'm going to Kleins and Greg's to learn more Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I537 using Tapatalk

I've gotten them in the past. I just toss them. Even if they're legit, I figure I'm not a good enough hunter to give them the feedback they're looking for. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I537 using Tapatalk

I guess if I'm going to get that close, I should just go ahead and take me some head shots? Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I537 using Tapatalk

I'll definitely take you up on that. My father in law and brother in law both go to Kleins. I'll start there but I'll check out Greg's too. Thanks Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I537 using Tapatalk

You mean I won't be able to take a deer with a bow at 160 yds?Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I537 using Tapatalk

They should cover the track with clay, run real race cars driven by real drivers, and forget all the pomp and circumstance. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I537 using Tapatalk

Very few deer are perfectly broadside. However, no matter their angle, if you aim for a double lung shot, your chances of putting meat in the freezer are much greater than if you aimed anywhere else. This fact cannot be disputed, which is why I cannot believe that this thread has gone as long as it has. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I537 using Tapatalk

Thanks for all the advice. I'm going to a couple shops this week. Klein's in Dryden and Greg's in Moravia. I never intended to go to a big box store if I didn't have to. I bought a rifle from Walmart years ago and, while it killed a lot of deer, the salesman couldn't tell me if .30-06 and .25-06 were from the same parent cartridge. Good thing I was in the Army Marksmanship Unit and had just noticed the sale in the flyer. I knew what I wanted and they had the best price. I have no idea what I want in a bow, but Klein's has an incredible reputation in this area, so that's where I'm going to start. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I537 using Tapatalk

I try to take the same shot regardless of distance, weapon, or angle: double lung. If you aim for a double lung shot and miss just a little, you'll still have a fatal hit. I see no reason to ever aim for anything else.

Ok, so I've taken deer with shotgun, rifle, pistol, and muzzleloader. Wife gave me the go-ahead to buy a bow with our taxes and complete the cycle. I've never shot a bow before, but there was a time that I'd never shot a gun before too, so I know I can do it if I put in the time to do it right. I'm going to a couple bow shops this week to see if they have any used bows at decent prices. What are some things to look for and to stay away from?

I'm at Volusia all this week. I really wish they held this race FAR away from the CRAPCAR circus. We'll be leaving tomorrow night after the show and headed north.

Can the draw length be adjusted? I have a shop near me that can do it if need be. I'm looking to get into bow this year and am just starting to look at bows

My usual recipe is the same, except for the applesauce and whiskey. A few buddies and I were talking the last time I did pulled pork, and they suggested adding a little sweetness, thus the applesauce, and another friend wanted some kick, thus the whiskey.

I threw a pork shoulder roast in the smoker this morning for pulled pork. I deviated a bit from my usual bbq sauce recipe and I don't think I'll ever go back. 1/2 onion, minced 4 cloves garlic, minced 3/4 cup whiskey (I used Jack) 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper 1/2 tablespoon salt 2 cans tomato sauce 1/4 cup tomato paste 1/3 cup cider vinegar 2 tablespoons liquid smoke flavoring 1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce 1/2 cup packed brown sugar 1/3 teaspoon hot pepper sauce, or to taste 2 cups applesauce In a large skillet over medium heat, combine the onion, garlic, and whiskey. Simmer for 10 minutes, or until onion is translucent. Mix in the ground black pepper, salt, tomato sauce, tomato paste, vinegar, liquid smoke, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, hot pepper sauce and apple sauce Bring to a boil. Reduce heat to medium-low, and simmer for 20 minutes. Run sauce through a strainer if you prefer a smooth sauce. Chris

My processor cut me some neck roasts out of the deer I got during the DMFA season. Anyone got any good recipes for them?

I LOVE my 220! I haven't hunted at all with my .30-06 since I got it. I've taken deer from 25-250 yds with it. I'm shooting Hornady SST 2 3/4"
