Welcome. I'm in 7j over in Cayuga county. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I537 using Tapatalk
  2. I knocked mine down with a brush hog, then mowed it. Now I have a local farmer cut it for hay at the end of July. I mow it twice and let it go until he comes again next year. You'll have to knock it down, then rough up the soil and put in grasses to keep the briars from coming back if you want to do anything with it other than hay it off. 3. If it was off when he walked up on it, put a dmp on it! Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I537 using Tapatalk
  4. If it's match ammo, it's not hunting ammo. I used to shoot matches in the army and I'd never consider match ammo for game animals. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I537 using Tapatalk
  5. Which Hornady rounds? As long as they're not fmj, you should be ok. I love their SST and American Whitetail ammo loaded with Interlock bullets. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I537 using Tapatalk
  6. I've never had a problem with SSTs not leaving a blood trail if I do my job and put it in the right spot, both out of my ML (both of them) and shotgun. I switched to the 300gr XTP because I think they're a better bullet, but I still have about 100 SSTs that I won't hesitate to use. If you put a half inch hole in their chest, through their heart and lungs, and out the other side, you'll get blood trails, weather or not you're using a ML Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I537 using Tapatalk
  7. It has nothing to do with it being a muzzleloader. It's all about shot placement and bullet construction. Same as any firearm. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I537 using Tapatalk
  8. My father in law and I put my wife in a blind the other day and pushed towards her. When we got there, she'd gotten bored and started building a snowman family. That won't happen again. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I537 using Tapatalk
  9. At this point, all he can do is comply. Otherwise, they'll come after the "illegal" weapons
  10. My butcher wraps in plastic, then in freezer paper. I do my best to use up last year's deer before breaking into the new stuff. Not sure that'll be an issue next year given that I've only got one so far this year. The tag only needs to stay with the meat while it's being transported. My butcher tapes it to one of the packages of steaks, and that's the one we usually open up first. I recently found a package of inner loin from 2010 in the bottom of my freezer. I was going to cook it up, but it had a funny look to it (don't know if I could explain it if I tried), and pulled apart real easy before it was even cooked. It smelled fine, but I just wasn't sure of it, so I tossed it. IDK if it was freezer burned or what was wrong with it, but I figured that I wouldn't want to feed it to my daughter, so I shouldn't feed it to my wife.
  11. He should have thought of that before he violated his own second amendment rights by telling them he had it. Show me where in The Constitution it says I have to tell the government what weapons I have, and I will. Otherwise, Keep Calm and Carry On.
  12. I've never been good at it, but I try to work on it. Mostly during squirrel season, on state lands. I sure don't want to screw up my prime private spots practicing! Hopefully, one of these days, I'll be more adept at it to actually try it during deer season when I can actually shoot them.
  13. No one, Der Feuhrer Cuomo or King Bloomberg included, will tell me what I can and can't own. None of my weapons are registered, and they never will be. Registration only serves as a database so they know where to start looking when they want to confiscate, which is exactly what they're doing in NYC.
  14. I fired and cleaned my TC Pro Hunter FX this morning. While I had everything out, I figured I'd throw a fresh coat of oil on the Wildcat. Much to my surprise, the patch came out blacker than the ace of spades. Apparently, I had pulled the breech plug and cleaned that, but hadn't cleaned the bore the last time I had it out. Obviously, the clean breech plug on top of my gun cabinet told me that the rifle was clean. WRONG! I got it cleaned and oiled down. I'll clean it again in a few days. The bore doesn't appear to be pitted at all, so that's good. I called my brother in law, who was here the last time I had it out. Apparently, we had to go pull a friend out of the mud after he got his truck stuck before I finished cleaning weapons and my wife just put it away before we got home.
  15. XTP's are deadly. Just a heads up, they're cheaper if you buy the Hornady brand (Hornady makes TC ammo) from Bass Pro and the sabots from either MMP or Harvester. I use the black MMP sabot with my XTP's. I've also found better and more consistent performance from loose 777 powder vs pellets. You shouldn't have to use 150gr of powder. 100 gr will push any bullet fast enough to be deadly out to 100+ yds (I'll shoot them to 200 with 100gr).
  16. I just got back from a walk along the property line. Saw 2 does bedded on neighbor's land about 75 yds from my line. I called him but I'm guessing he keeps his phone on silent while he's on stand. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I537 using Tapatalk
  17. That's about the dumbest thing I think I've ever heard. Let me get this straight, I paid money for this land, the deed is recorded at the county courthouse, it's mine. I pay more of my hard-earned money in property taxes so that the county lets me keep it, but unless I spend even more money on signs telling people to stay the hell off my property, they're not trespassing?
  18. I have a few posted signs around and I know it's easy to cross the line without seeing them. I handle trespassers on a case by case basis depending on how deep they are, if they've shot a deer, are tracking, if they have permission to be on neighbor property etc..... If you're on your land, you should know where the lines are. If you're hunting private property that's not yours, you should ask the owner to walk you along the lines so you know exactly where you are. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I537 using Tapatalk
  19. If you don't own it, someone else does. If that person isnt NYS, it's private property and youre trespassing if you go there. It's YOUR responsibility to be legal. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I537 using Tapatalk
  20. Exactly. Land doesn't need to be posted. You can still press charges if you have trespassers. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I537 using Tapatalk

  23. Coyote season is more than just March. You should check the regs you're telling people to check. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I537 using Tapatalk
  24. I saw a bunch moving. Got a shot off at a bedded doe this afternoon but misjudged the distance and missed with the smoke pole. Try again tomorrow Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I537 using Tapatalk
  25. Maybe it be ok if he keeps it barely warm and doesn't let it get past med-rare. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I537 using Tapatalk
