  1. Already have a good 12 inches here on LI and it just swiched to rain. So here comes the ice.
  2. I live on Long Island and have duck/goose hunted here and upstate. In my opinion the waterfowl upstate taste alot better than here on the Island. Waterfowl down here tastes very fishy - not for me.
  3. Ordered from Willis Orchard but they are hit or miss. I have ordered from them in the past and almost everything I purchased survived. Lost a couple of apple trees and a fig tree i purchased from them.
  4. Finally placed my order. Got apple, cherry and peach trees. Bought hazelenut and chestnut trees and ordered rasburry plants to go with my blueberries. Hope i will have a productive orchard in a few years.
  5. Who cares who wins just need Bronco score to end with 3 and Seahawk score to end with 4.
  6. When do you spray and what do you use? Should i spray my apple trees too? I also have some bleuberries, do they need to be sprayed as well?
  7. I call it the wussification of american kids today. Really how can we have a little league baseball game with no losers. Kids need to feel whats its like to lose once and a while. We can't keep trying to protect the form dissapointment. Thats how you build character. Life is not always fair and if they learn that early, they will be better adults.
  8. you guys use propane to heat your house? We only use that for BBQs down here. Lol
  9. Thanks Gino are your plants here on the island or upstate. What types of fruit and nut trees do you have?
  10. Wow grow sound like you have quite an ecosystem there. I am looking to plant most of these trees for myself first and the wildlife second. I love the taste of fresh fruits and vegetables. I have quite an extensive garden here where i live and though i could extend that to my property.
  11. Wow grow thats great. Do you have to prune alot to keep your orchard prodctive? Also what type of fertilizer do you use. I live quite a distance from my land and its going to be hard to put in alot of time for these trees. Are they self sufficient for the most part.
  12. I have gotten some of my trees from Willis Orchard but they are hit or miss. The blue berries i purchased all lived but a few of the apple trees didn't make it. There are probably better companies out there.
  13. Thanks Grow. I am on a slope with southern exposure so there is sun all day. I can't believe you can grow Kiwi and Persimmon. Do the do well?
  14. G-man do you have to fence the nut trees like the fruit trees. Will the deer chew them all up.
  15. Does a frogs a** tighten up in a mud puddle?
  16. Thanks for your help Doc. Going to put my order in this week.
  17. When i bought my land the listing agent was charging 10%. That was split between the listing agent and my agent. Generally you will get charged more for land because of the low values.
  18. When i set my camp up the electric company charged me $3 a foot to run line and poles where needed. I was 900 feet from the closest pole. But they gave me a $1,500 credit since i was a new customer. I just had to show that i was building so i needed to have a septic and well first. I installed a 200 amp meter/breaker panel myself, the electric company just ran their lines to it.
  19. I was thinking of cherry and pears but not peaches. Arent they a warm weather fruit? Are there cold hearty varieties? As for they wire fence, i learned that lesson the hard way when deer ate all the branches off an apple tree i planted right down to the trunk. How about nut trees. Will chestnuts and filberts grow upstate?
  20. Finally got about 1 acre cleared and leveled and am looking to start planting my orchard. I have a few trees scattered throughout my property but i want to dedicate a whole acre to them. Besides apples can anyone give me advice on what fruit and nut trees i can plant. My property is in the cooperstown area.

    Squeaky Bow

    Should have bought a Mathews
  22. Full of Clowns. Hunted there many years until i got my own piece of land. If you want to run the risk of getting shot and see no deer its the place to go. Lol However, if you like small game it is a great place for grouse hunting and not many hunters in the woods early in the season.
  23. The key is to have great neighbors. I live downstate and my neighbor waches my land upstate like a hawk when i am not there. There is a mutual respect there. I let him use my land to go 4 wheeling and to go fish in my pond and he lets me hunt his during gun season (he doesn't hunt). I have had trespassers try to get on my land but he puts a stop to that right quick. been lucky so far. Sharing a 12 pack with him when i am up there helps. Lol
