  1. i would just like to say i bought a brand new bow for 300 bucks less than the big box stores are selling them for! there's a guy on AT named "Scottie" and his deals are mind blowing, mostly Diamond, Bowtech stuff...a great guy, Look him up in the classifieds on AT!
  2. boy you guy's really know how to over complicate things and spin some imaginary scenanrio into a death of us all cable TV news report, i would swear some of you are congressmen or politicians running for some office with all the BS scarey fairytales your spewing. SHORTENING GUN season for a crossbow season, LMAO!!!! the only major change i think we are going to see in the next few years is inclusion of x-bows into archery season, if you want to call that major or the implementation of special youth hunting seasons, both of which me or any hunter should be in favor of.
  3. it's probably a safe bet to say it was in an archery shop where most of us got our start. i walked into an archery shop 25 or so years ago in Coram Long Island on i think it was rt 112, there was a big burly guy in there who saw a rifle hunter (me) gazing at the bows and about an hour later i was walking out the door with a bow(PSE Polaris express), arrows, sight, and about 400 bucks lighter in my pocket. he's the one who got it all started....hey any of you Long Island guy's remember or know of this shop and owner, is he still there????and what was the name of the place???it wasnt far off of rt 83, patchogue mount sinia road on rt 112, maybe Medford or Coram?
  4. yea the 500 feet thing for bows is plain silly, now crossbows are a differant story, i hear them thar things shoot and are deadly to over a thousand yards!!! ;D
  5. this is all part of the chip away strategy guy's >
  6. Also Seeks Ban on Lead Fishing Tackle 8/5/10 This week, two environmental groups filed a petition with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) seeking a nationwide ban on lead ammunition and lead fishing tackle. Such a ban would drastically reduce sportsmen numbers and result in decimated funding for wildlife conservation programs due to a loss of revenue from licenses and taxes on sporting equipment. The petition filed was filed under the Toxic Substances Control Act, which regulates dangerous chemicals, on August 3 by the Center for Biological Diversity (CBD), the American Bird Conservancy and several other groups. It claims that the use of traditional ammunition is dangerous to certain types of wildlife, including numerous birds, which scavenge on parts of game that remain in the field. The U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance (USSA) and other groups have repeatedly pointed out that scientific evidence connecting lead ammunition to the harm of most animal populations is inconclusive. However, there are real concerns that forcing sportsmen to purchase higher cost, non-lead ammunition will decrease the number of days spent in the field as it prices many out of the market. “It is important for everyone to remember that the engine that drives wildlife conservation is fueled by the dollars generated by the American sportsman,” said Rob Sexton, USSA vice president for government affairs. “In fact, sportsmen contribute nearly every dime used for managing wildlife and habitat preservation from coast to coast. Given our history of over 100 years of successful wildlife conservation, you would in essence be killing the goose that laid the golden egg with this meat cleaver approach.” Take Action! Sportsmen are encouraged to express their opposition to this petition by contacting the following Environmental Protection Agency staff. Let them know that sportsmen represent the foundation of America’s conservation movement and that this ban will result in a critical loss of funding for wildlife and other important programs: Lisa P. 7. yea and vert compound bow manufactures have no monetary concerns when a state decides to include crossbows into their hunting season right.
  8. Please give me a reason I can believe that a bowhunter would convert to crossbow if it were legal? yea Ohio has 170 thousand crossbow hunters compared to 150 thousand vertical bow hunters. just a couple of short years ago it was about 50 / 50 with vertical bowhunters having a slight edge. and the numbers in PA and Jersey show that the interst in crossbow hunting is very strong..
  9. so if you no longer care about crossbows then just settle down, and lay awake at night and think of some other hunting group you can attack, i'm sure you got a list..
  10. boy you guy's just have a way with working yourselves into a frenzy with these fairytales of the big corrupt crossbow companies and their schemes, bribes and payoffs to get crossbows into NY, whatta you do lay awake at night thinking this stuff up
  11. just goes to show how little if anything the anti crossbow knot heads know about the legislative process, ("the crossbow manufactures are the ones pushing for crossbows to be legalized in NY state"), NOW REALLY??? the truth is crossbow manufactures have done everything and more to stay completely neutral on this whole thing for the very reason that if they even showed any interest in the process to legalize crossbows in NY you would have MORONS crying about how the crossbow manufactures are the ones pushing this thing, HOLY COW, what a load of crap. i am and know people who are in the process of working on full inclusion here in NY and the manufacures are the first people we called for support, and not a single crossbow builder would help due to the possibility of being accused of having a biased interest, which is happening anyway??? if someone wants to sit in a treestand with a crossbow instead of a compound especially on his or hers own land what the heck is the differance? YEA you guessed it, the only differance is that people are really afraid that you will shoot thier DEER! yea thats it in a nutshell guy's. i dont want anyone out in them woods who might have any advantage in shooting my deer. KINDA LAME if you ask me ???
  12. boy i bought one of them the first year they came out back in the mid 90s some time, and i still use that thing today, great tool..
  13. heres a link to another forum on how to make a 20 dollar bow press, thought some of you might like this.... http://www.archerytalk.com/vb/showthread.php?t=965870
  14. i would bet your one of those people that sees UFO"s flying over you on the highway. and the WWF is all real too, right
  15. hunters have become a group of old critical elitist's that no one even wants to hang out with anymore, why the heck do you see so few young guy's getting into this sport, i know of a 25 year old guy who went to a local gun shop just last week to be totally ignorned while the shop owner stood there and carried on for 30 mins chit chatting with some other old overweight guy on the other side of the counter, this young fella who i'm trying to get into the sport of hunting told me this guy was a total a-hole and wouldnt even look in my direction????so he took to the door and left and doesnt plan on ever going back there, too bad for the gun shop owner, this kid has spent over 2K on hunting equipment since spring. now heres a well educated kid with money and he pulls up in a nice vehicle to this gun shop and he's ignored, my god??? i belong to a Long island gun club where the older members (it's all OLDER members)are doing everything in their power to get a rule passed to prevent guy's from bringing their kids to the range!!!!!!!can you friggin beleive this!!!!!!!!!!! and all this recent talk about hunters in the woods looking at you thru their scopes, and standing there talking to you while aiming their rifle at your legs i mean come on!!! i've been hunting in NY for 40 years and have never had any one looking at me thru their rifle scope? and this old and worn out story about seeing staggering drunks roaming the woods, now really guy's who has ever seen this, where the hell do you guy's get this crap?? and so this is my contribution to, WHY OTHER HUNTERS IRRITATE ME and it's because most of you are too old, too narrow minded too perfect to give a crap about the future of our sport that is under constant attack here in NY every single day. just open you eyes for a minute, how many hunting camps have you all seen disolved over the years? yea plenty right and it's because most of you old tards can't even stand hanging out with each other any more and for the camps that you still see going how many young guy's are part of the crew, HUH? ??? WAKE UP and take a KID HUNTING if you can possibly get over the chance that yea this kid might shoot "YOUR" big buck.
  16. NY hunters are probably the most critical group of teenage girls i have ever seen, i think we should start a catagory on why other hunters are so icky, or maybe an out of date camo patterns section, or why and how my way of hunting is the only way, yea lets bash the hell out of small game hunters, and trappers, and guy's who drive deer, or those guy's on them thar 4 wheelers and lets not forget the crossbow morons, and those guy's that use dogs, awwwhhh!! come on with all the bashing here it shouldnt be that difficult for altleast one of you guy's to come out and tell us why your the perfect hunter, after all there pages and pages of posts on why every one else out in the woods is an a-hole or puts his stand in the wrong place or walks into the woods at the wrong time etc, etc, etc.....come on lets get some kinda guide on how to be the perfect hunter, something that covers it all..
  17. just turn your over grown cranium to the right and look at the hot topics box, yea that 294 number was reached mainly because of the contributions of 2 of the biggest trolls on this forum, you and Doctor dread the crossbow supporters dropped that thread after 50 or so posts and moved on to bigger and better things like working on getting crossbows into archery season in the near future so we can shoot hell out of "YOUR" deer
  18. this in response to another thread that is titled "how other hunters irritate you" . i figured we could just get to the facts here and have all you perfect friggin hunters tell us how you became that way? and what it is that makes you so perfect in the first place, maybe we can all get an education from you guy's in the perfect hunters club and learn something? because we all wanna be just like you ;D
  19. WOW! great thread hunters just love bashing the hell out of each other? ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? hey lets just start a thread and title it "WHY I'M the PERFECT HUNTER!!!" and all other hunters eat poopie!
  20. i think for alot of us it's just the fun of hanging out in an archery shop and chewing the fat with other hunters and exchanging ideas and yea buying something now and then, thats the one thing i miss since i have went solo and been doing my own setup, work and tuning.
  21. i gotta say i still go out and enjoy the sport of hunting for what it is. yea the equipment does look different than what i used 30 years ago but the feelings running thru my mind right now that summer is coming to an end are the same, and the feeling i have when i step out on that very first cool september morning will be the very same feeling i have had for decades now that hunting season is coming. and even though im heading into the woods with all this so called advanced archery equipment i still find it a great challenge putting an arrow thru a deers lungs. but most of all i still look foward into just sitting up in my tree stands for hours on end enjoying the fall woods right here in NY state...
  22. sounds like an awesome event, just alittle to far for me...
