  1. Schumer can't be trusted - doesn't have a clue what NY people outside of NYC want - unfortunatly nobody runs against him that can beat him
  2. I had a pond that mother nature decided to partially destroy - I'm going to try and repair over the next few weeks and hopefully the resident beaver will assist anyone in NY buy freshwater fish from a "fish farm" they could recommend ? i found one south of Rochester (garrison's Smith creek fish farm, Bliss,NY)- anyone know anything about the place ?
  3. i'm about 20 miles from norwich - they are calling for 1-3 inches of snow and yes still snow on the ground in the woods and north facing slopes
  4. solon

    Why?

The top 2 reasons were the challenge and quiet of the woods..i had gun hunted since i was a teenager and when i was in my 20's a friend suggested bow hunting. It took a lot of practice and it still takes a ton of patience and practive Quietness of the woods - during bow season the woods are so peaceful - it's the best stress relief on the planet - I gun hunt so no disrespect but there are too many people running around in the woods, ready to pull the trigger - don't have to worry about that during bow season - just tranquility
  5. The bill will expire on December 31, 2012, unless the Legislature and Governor decide to extend the law. called my state legislator's office today to express my opinion to let this lapse and that he should survey his constituents - the liaison thought a survey was a good idea
  6. great article and couldn't agree with it more....unfortunatly the only thing we can do is vote Obozo out in the next election - because he isn't listening to the constituents - he only listens to Pelosi
  7. nice deer ! - i went to Illinois two years ago and the guides are worried more NY people are going to Ohio and getting good quality bucks - You proved that to be true !
  8. trophy ridge meat seeker - 100gm 3 blade - great blade, never a problem
  9. generally speaking i'm not a fan of baiting - but with bears you might as well hang it up without it - no where in Canada does a guided bear hunt not include baiting. Must be NY is smarter that Canada
  10. only a prototype TEXASFLASHLIGHT.WMV
  11. live in onodaga county but do a lot of hunting in Georgetown area
  12. no offense to either of these companies - but their prices are high. I talked to both, but eventually bought straight from a regular MLS real estate company. Found a porperty just as good as what these two advertise but at a much lower price per acre. Most counties have a MLS site - let your fingers do the walking on the internet...
  13. I've talked to 3 other DEC officers who would not agree with the interviewee
  14. i'm not going to jump into this fray, but wanted to add that a good book to read is called the "federalist papers" that is a collection of stories by some of our founding fathers: http://www.foundingfathers.info/federalistpapers/ It scares me when people want to say what was written 200 years ago doesn't apply anymore...
  15. good luck and enjoy the new toy - i still use a .22 mag for squirell hunting, i guess it's "old school" but it works for me
  16. mine is pretty simple - it's the name of the town in Cortland county where I own property and do most of my hunting
  17. anytime government regulations are invovled these debates will occur - IMO it's a personal choice and my approach will be what's under my ability to control I own/have permission to hunt 5 different pieces of property - no one will be allowed to use x-bows there...as far as everyone else "you are what you do" and need to accept the affects/consequences of your choices
  18. Newfoundland is the place to go...i've gone twice and gotten a moose both times, 4,000 (+/-) for a hunt these days. guide is mandatory. tons of big moose ( i got a 12 point and then a 10 point, both in excess of 800 pounds) long....ride - from Syracuse,NY to Nova Scotia 17 hours, then a 6 hour boat ride, then 5 hours more for where i went on Newfoundland - but they were the best two trips of my life...i'll probably do it again in a few more years. this is the place i went to http://www.newfoundlandbiggamehunting.com/
  19. great video! - i've been coming with excuses to not coyoye hunt, but one of my New Year resolutions is to get out there and just do it. to many yotes where I deer hunt
  20. if the goal is to improve the herd and reduce pressure introducing xbows or any other implement won't solve the problem Look at what Illinois does - they spread the season out with breaks in between the season - starts with bow, then there are two guns seasons with a break in between the gun seasons, then another break and then muzzelloader, then another break and a late bow season - i went out there for the late bow (1st week of january) and saw tons of deer because they weren't spooked with continous pressure
  21. i'll say skill - but skill from experience - when i first started hunting if i got a deer it was luck or from the knowledge/experience of the people teaching me what to do. Over the years i've stored all that experience into what's left of my brains cells and tried to use it to my advantage. Every time I go into the woods i seem to learn something even if it's a little thing - if you keep your eyes and mind open your skills will increase
  22. the only thing i do is slice it into thin pieces, then quickly fry it in a pan with some garlic powder on top and olive oil in the pan - like any venison don't overcook "quickly" fry it
  23. going to camp wednesday night - thursday/friday bow hunt then shotgun hunt saturday/sunday - no work just hunting and a few good stories/beverages at night - will be hunting in the cincinnatus(cortland county) and georgetown (madison county) areas
  24. it stated "applied for moose tag from Maine for 25 or 26 years" go to Newfoundland - u have to use a guide but tags are numerous and so are the moose...they have moose like we have rabbits
