Magazine Limits Can Be A Bad Thing
EspressoBuzz replied to Mr VJP's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
What part of "well regulated" in the 2nd amendment didn't you understand? That most perps wouldn't continue is a fact, for those that continue to advance that's where your responsibility as a "well regulated' gun owner fills the gap and helps protect you and your family. -
Apologies to all Firemen I may have offended. I believe that firemen are Brave, Dedicated and Hard Working. I have a high bar for the word Honorable and it is not a word I would paint any group with as a whole. I have lived for most of my life next to two firehouses in Brooklyn one of which was closed during the first wave of major cut backs in NYC during the 80's. I did volunteer work with the firemen of the Middagh St. Firehouse in Brooklyn for most of the 80's as well. I worked at 4 WTC across the street from the Liberty St firehouse for over 12 years and spend most of my summer lunch hours with them gawking at the pretty girls. I have great respect and admiration for firemen. Everyone and I mean everyone is human and as so is subject to human weaknesses and frailties. Being a soldier, fireman or toll collector does not automatically make someone more worthy of owning a gun, or less vulnerable to using it in a moment of uncontrollable emotion.

Magazine Limits Can Be A Bad Thing
EspressoBuzz replied to Mr VJP's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
This is a PSA for mandatory gun handling course. First off study after study has proven that thieves would not continue to break in when shots have been already fired. Secondly the home owner if properly instructed about firearms use and home protection would; A- know how many rounds he had and fired. B- not be standing in the open like a target at the firing range. C- would have had another clip ready to go since the law does not limit how many clips you can have. This goes to the heart of what I've always felt. You can buy a handgun without any kind of education on its use and precautions but you cant drive a car without passing a test, and in some states repeating the test when a certain age is reached. Why aren't more gun advocates for mandatory firearms education and/or certification? PS the stopping power of the handgun in the video is much greater than the video shows, he didn't have to shoot him again he could have just kicked him in the face at that point. -
Why is it relevant that he is a firefighter or disabled, unless the disability is mental? Calling the police suggests that someone thought violence may happen. What if the police did not take the guns and gun violence happened after the police left? As stated there is much more to this story, I tried searching for it and the only hits i could find were all pro gun sites, I'm sure you'll find a conspiracy in that too, but it makes me wonder. How can you wonder how many gun confiscations did not make it into the news when every pro gun and 2nd amendment site is like a raw nerve ready to report each and every incident? Once again the sky is not falling....

My GPS said I walked almost 4 miles in fairly deep snow and saw NOTHING! One day left!

Last week i was at Otis Pike parking spot #25, I had walked in enough so as the reach the edge of the state land and was apparently close to spot #31. I saw a spot where i could look over a small hallow that 2 trails crossed and seemed to used by deer a lot. I sat down between two trees and waited. 30 mins later I hear rustling to my right and i spot a jogger coming down one trail and turning to come down the trail i was on. he was wearing all black with headphone in his ears and got within 3 feet of me before looking up and jumping out of his skin. He stopped we both said hello and chatted for a few mins, I suggested he might want to wear orange next time he's out jogging here and he seemed to be surprised like no one had suggested it before. On cue another hunter came walking up along the trail from spot #31, he didn't see me sitting between two tree until he got closer but he had seen the jogger. He said to the jogger, "Hey I almost shot you, you pushed some deer ahead of you and as I was sighting I barely noticed you directly behind the deer, you should wear orange!" The jogger seemed concerned and thanked us for the info. later when he left, the other hunter (i think he said his name was Pete) said Holy Shit I barely noticed him all dressed in black. we said our goodbys and good lucks and each of us went down a different trail. Perhaps in the north with a hunter per 10 square miles in some areas orange isn't important, but downstate it's much more important for hunters and anyone who uses the woods.

I'm just wondering if anyone here expects a perfect system in reasonable gun control? If we all agree that certain people with a mental illness should not have guns do we then assume every person with a mental illness will get denied or that an innocent or two will not get caught up in the gears of the machinery? I agree that on the face of it this seems like a huge mistake, but I've only seen this one story and have no facts as to how many have been denied guns due to the mental illness as a percentage of the gun owning population of New York. The safe act is a horror show but the idea of keeping guns out of the hands of the mentally ill who could be dangerous is a good one. You may point out that this person is a veteran and ex police office but since both groups have a higher percentage of gun violence and gun suicide it carries no weight. Let's not forget it was an elderly ex cop who shot a man in Florida last year in a movie theater for texting his daughter. Just like when you hit a certain age you shouldn't be driving anymore, there may come a time when an person shouldn't have a gun anymore. This goes to the heart of gun control, if gun owners do not put forth reasonable and manageable solutions they will and have been forced on us.

Marion Cuomo Dead @ 82
EspressoBuzz replied to Mr VJP's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
I'm with you but I just had to say "You realize he served 3 full terms? Had no scandals and left the state with a budget surplus? Additionally in 10 years brought NY's credit rating to its highest level" Maybe no one sings his praises here because they don't want to be beat down by a shit storm of hate, which is what happens here to liberals. -

Love him or hate him (as many here do) he lived the American dream of advancement with each generation. His voice was not always welcome but he had the courage to speak when others fell silent. -
Happy birthday! Nothing like a fine aged Merlot....

Why no rifles in some shotgun only areas
EspressoBuzz replied to Borngeechee's topic in Rifle and Gun Hunting
I'm pretty darn sure it's no rifles at all in Westchester and Suffolk counties regardless of what you are hunting. My cousin in Durham NC told me in Durham county you can only use a rifle from a tree stand, which makes perfect sense to me. -

taking shots at squirrels in tree tops
EspressoBuzz replied to sits in trees's topic in Small Game and Predator Hunting
My .410 when the leaves are still on the trees and my 1400 fps air rifle with 10 gr pellets, later in the season when the trees are mostly bare. Off Long Island I use my Henry lever action with low velocity 22's late in the season. -
Rubber buckshot - effective range?
EspressoBuzz replied to Curmudgeon's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
If the dogs are pets I would also consider photographing them since most areas have leash laws and don't allow dogs to roam freely. I would consider paintball LESS cruel than rubber buckshot. -
Rubber buckshot - effective range?
EspressoBuzz replied to Curmudgeon's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
When in doubt YOUTUBE it out, there is always someones foolishness recorded and posted for all of us to learn from! http://www.brassfetcher.com/Shotguns/Shotguns.htm My thinking runs rubber buckshot for dogs, rubber slug for bears, for bears I'd have something lethal just in case all you do is piss it off. -
Coyote callers and new hunter tips
EspressoBuzz replied to Chef's topic in Small Game and Predator Hunting
http://www.downwindoutdoors.com/ Calling works best in pairs you will notice and there is no need to spend mad money like you'll see in the videos at Downwind Outdoors. Remote control and hand held work fine, a motorized decoy helps keep the attention off your location. -

Maybe the majority of New Yorker don't want fracking and in a democracy majority rules.
