  1. If the dog hadn't stopped to s**t , he would have caught the rabbit....
  2. I remember a Remington ad for the N 66 from around 1960...It was a picture ( artist's depiction) of a fisherman on an Alaskan fishing boat who was aiming his Nylon 66 at a sea lion that was interfereing with his fishing.....That would go over about like a fart in church today... Of course, you must consider that in 1960, Alaska was still paying a $50 bounty on bald eagles...My buddy, who lived in Juneau and worked many years as a commercial fisherman, called them " white headed buzzards"...Hehehe
  3. Yes I was, Al, and it amazed me then and still amazes me today....
  4. Tell me again about tha RABBITS, George.....
  5. I know what you mean, Tucker....Last time I checked a friend's Blue Book, it told me that my K98K was worth $1000 and my SMLE # 4 was worth $800....But try to GET that.!!...Hehehe...
  6. Does he buy them to collect them, or just to move them and make a few $$$ ??….
  7. Larry, I had a Win 69A also..My first rifle that was truly my own...I wish I still had it....Killed 75 woodchucks in the summer of '66, and 65 of them were shot with the 69A, since 22 hollow points were 85 cents for a box of 50, and my other chuck rifle, a Rem 722 in .222, cost $3.15 for a box of 20... The story on the Nylon 66....The Mermaid and I had breakfast with her son and DIL this morning, and Sis mentioned that she liked shooting the " black and silver" .22 that her EX used to own.... Her son said " I have it you want it " ...SO it came home with us, complete with a cheap Bushnell scope... It's her rifle and she is not interested in selling it...I just wondered what it was worth...For sure I'll have to take it out and see how it shoots...Pretty cool little rifle and really in very good condition..
  8. I just acquired a Rem Nylon 66 in Apache Black/ Chrome....It is in good to VG condition... Does anybody have a figure for appx value...I have a Blue Book, but it is the 1994 edition...Hehehe.....
  9. Of the perhaps 50 or 60 firearms I have bought, I never paid more than $500 for one.....However I bought my last new one in about 1993, I think... I have bought a few used ones since then..Last one I remember was a sporterized 03A3 Springfield that I paid $250 for with a Weaver 2x7 scope.. The most expensive gun I ever bought was a field grade Browning Citori, about 50 years ago...I believe they were retailing for about $750 at the time.. Interest rates were very high at the time and the Bank of Boulder, CO had a deal on Browning shotguns and Weatherby Mk V rifles.... I sent $1500 to the Bank and they sent me a Citori up front as interest on my $1500.. Six years later they sent me my $1500 back...Best deal I ever made...
  10. If the cop looked that, I WOULD have....I also would have demanded a spanking for being a BAAD boy...!!!
  11. I found out today that the dude is in jail....He was on probabtion and was not allowed to drink or even be in a bar...
  12. Just a senior moment, I guess....<<blush>>….
  13. Actually, Rob, you make an excellent point....If a bad guy knows you have a gun, chances are he will leave pronto even if HE has one....And if it a policeman, I damn well WANT him to know I have a gun, so I don't surprise him...Cops don't like surprises...Hehehe...
  14. Yeah, I'm a regular dadburn desperado, Pilgrim !!…..
  15. Yeah, me too.. The officer conducted himself in a very professional manner....
  16. BINGO !! First time I watched that movie was in the 1950s at the Empire Theater in Addison...
  17. I'll be 69 in two weeks, but I've had a little TOO much excitement the last couple of days... While playing euchre at The legion Thursday night, I was almost mixed up in a fistfight... A young guy sitting at my left had too much to drink, and got PO'd at my partner over a play... He stood up and got very abusive and belligerent and started threatening my partner, who is older than me...I thought I was going to have to help my partner out, but some other members intervened and de-fused the situation... The guy has since been barred from the club PLUS he was brought up on harassment charges from a woman he had allegedly groped... Then last night at 11:30 PM, I was sitting in my recliner watching a John Wayne movie, and someone started POUNDING on my front door....Not " knock knock knock", but BAM BAM BAM"... I grabbed my S&W .357 out of it's hiding place and went to the door and cracked it open , holding the revolver muzzle down behind my body...A voice said " Sherriff's Department" and I saw a young officer standing on my front porch... He said..." Do you have a gun in your hand ?"...I replied, ' Yes, I do".....He said " Will you lay it on the floor in front of you and step back ? " I said " YES I will"...And I very promptly DID... He picked up the gun and unloaded it, and then asked me if I had a pistol permit...I produced my permit and he checked it out and asked me a couple of questions...He then told me that someone had received a phone from the neighborhood with a woman screaming for help in the background and asked me if I had heard any screaming..I assured him that I had not, but that I was hard of. hearing and had been watching a John Wayne movie with the volume turned up quite loud.... He then returned my revolver and cartridges.. He then said " You scared hell out of me when I saw you get that gun"....I replied, ' Well, you scared hell out of ME when you hammered on my door in the middle of the night.." One thing I learned is that I need to find a better place to hide the gun, or block off the sidelight on the front door so someone can't see in..If that cop had been a bad guy, he may very well have got the drop on me... I haven't heard anything yet regarding the disturbance...
  18. I apologize if I offended anyone..Sure did not mean it to be personal....I will plagiarize Lawdwaz and say that KISS means Keep It Simple, Slim....
  19. Yes, I was assuming that Goosey would be hunting deer.... In fact he stated that in his original post.
  20. KISS.....Sight in 2.5 or 3 " high at 100.....Get a quality scope in 2x7 or 3x9 power....Hunting in the woods, keep the scope at 4x or lower...Any deer you see at point blank to 300 yards, hold dead center lung shot Dead deer...Doesn't get much simpler than that...
  21. EVERYBODY is offering 6.5 Creed factory loads now.....No need to handload unless you want to...
  22. Did you hear about the agnostic, dyslexic insomniac ?? He lay awake all night wondering if there really is a Dog...
