I didn't realize how small he was when I looked at the picture.... Not much there for size comparison.. Yes, barred owls are fairly large...With those long fluffy feathers they appear almost as big as a horned owl...Saw whets are cute little guys, smaller than a screech owl...
-
Fresh ( caught this morning) bluegill filets dusted in flour, salt+pepper and sautéed in butter and just enough EVOO to stretch the butter...Sorry, no pictures....
-
Looks like a mongoose to me....Seen any mongooses ( or is it MONGEESE) down your way ??...
-
Probably was a 1909 Argentine...They also had drop floorplate, IIRC...Sort of the CADDILAC of military Mausers..
-
Now THAT is a barred owl....Final answer... I have had them follow me around in the spring when I walking/ talking trying to raise a gobble... Unlike Great Horned owls, they are not especially wary or scared of humans....Horned owls are very wary and will flush from a tree at the first sign of a hunter approaching...
-
Short eared...Final answer... They are around in the winter and fly low over fields hunting mice...If you see one in flight it looks more like a hawk than an owl..

Glad I'm not around you this morning.....<<wink>>….

Visited the son and daughter in law this morning....Attended Sunday School at the legion....Spent the afternoon preparing snacks for the Superbowl, which I am now watching... However tomorrow morning I am going ice fishing with my friend Howie..Tuesday I am going rabbit hunting with my friend Butch and his 3 beagles....We old guys have to plan stuff around our DR. appointments....Hehehe...

The only 8 x 57s that I own are both still in original military form...I have a K98K Oberndorf 1938 on display at my local legion post and a Yugo M48 in basically un-issued condition in my gun room... Anybody know what the Yugos are going for these days..??…..
-
I'll take Cynthia, Paula and a bottle of Jack on a snipe hunt...<<grin>>….
-
Great turnout, y'all !! Good job.... I'd have been there, but I promised one of my old girlfriends that I'd help her braid her armpits...
-
No pictures of Chef and Crappy doing a belly bump ??...
-
Geeze, Rob....Sounds like a proposition to me....<<GRIN>>….

Pygmy creams his jeans again....<<sigh>>...

Yeah, the chit chat slows up the game and drives me nuts..However, where I play it is more of a social event than a competition, so I just take it in stride and have another beer...
-
Nothing like having a good partner...I'm not talking about signals, cheating or any of that crap..Just knowing what your partner is going to do has immense value in that game... In the leagues that I have played in, you have to draw for partners each night..Kind of levels the playing field...
-
I could REALLY get in trouble there...Sounds like FUN !! ….Hehehe...
-
Jeeze, Larry...You had a LOT more good looking girls to play with than I do....<<sigh>>...
-
You were playing pitch... high, low, jack and the game...The oldtimers in the local gunshop/poolroom where I grew up played that a lot..

Heading over to the Legion in a few minutes for our weekly euchre league.... Funny...Here in WNY everybody knows how to play euchre...When I was in the Navy I learned how regional the game was... Most of the guys had never HEARD of euchre...The only regions that seemed to know about it were WNY, central PA, and Michigan... EVERYBODY from EVERYWHERE knew how to play pinochle and hearts, but euchre was VERY regional..

Black market....??...Isn't that where you buy those automatic pistols that you hold sideways ??…..
-
Just the one in the truck....It is probably in the same place where it was in my last Dodge, but I have not needed it since I leased this one...
-
I went out this morning to the pleasant surprise of a flat tire on my truck....I didn't relish the idea of changing it in sub zero temps.. Shucks, I'd have to get out the manual just to find the freakin' JACK... Fortunately, I hooked the air hose up to it and it inflated enough to get down the street to a garage..Must have run over something, because it is losing air fast... Waiting for a phone call now to go get it..
-
Minus 8 down here in Dogpatch...Fortunately we only got a dusting of snow, so no shoveling...I'm waiting to see if the Amishmen will be working on the roof down the street this morning..

Glad you and your Missus are having a good trip, Goosey.... After spending two years on a destroyer working for Uncle Sam ( 1971-73) I decided that if I ever got on a boat again, it would be to go fishing...I strayed from that one time...The Mermaid and I went on a day trip to tour glaciers while on a FISHING trip in Juneau Alaska …..
