  1. Geeze, Stormy, you're better looking than I thought you were...I'm only saying that in a masculine, Christian kind of way, of course...
  2. A buddy of mine had a domestic gobbler....He named him Floyd....When he got visitors that did not know much about turkeys, he would tell them that his turkey would answer to his name...He would then holler " FLOYD !!" and the turkey would gobble, impressing his guests...What they did not know was that Floyd would gobble at ANY loud noise...He could have hollered ' RALPH !!" and got the same response from Floyd....He finally had to get rid of Floyd because the bird started attacking his wife whenever she came outside....True story....
  3. Happy Birthday !! Hope you get lucky <<grin>>…..
  4. Bingo !! Having hunted gobblers for close to 50 years now, I have had the opportunity to hunt birds in several areas the first couple of years when seasons have been established....Ontario, Canada...Maine...Kentucky...several locales in NY when huntable flocks were first established....In all cases, birds in areas recently opened to hunting provided lots of easy, naaive, gobblers....However, within a few seasons, these gobblers become just as tough to kill as in areas where they have been hunted many years...The toughest gobblers I have hunted have been in places where they have been hunted for many years, like Georgia, Virginia, Pennsylvania, and southwestern NY
  5. That would be especially effective if there was a pack beagles trailing him...
  6. Robins are omnivorous and will eat seeds/berries etc when insects are not available....G Man is partly correct....SOME robins do not migrate, but stay in heavy evergreen cover through the winter, especially in areas where the temps are slightly higher, such as around Seneca Lake...I have seen large numbers of robins in dead of winter in dense evergreen cover while hunting rabbits on the east side of Seneca, and also in hillcountry here along the Pennsyltucky border... However, a great majority of robins DO migrate to warmer climates, where forage is much more abundant in the winter..
  7. I was standing at the kitchen sink doing my breakfast dishes about ten minutes ago and I looked out at my birdfeeders and saw my first grackles and redwings of the year.. They often travel in mixed flocks, sometimes with some cowbirds mixed in also... I haven't seen any robins yet, but they are due anytime..They usually show up here in Dogpatch around mid-March..
  8. No better than average....I am minimalist at turkey calling...I like to keep my calls realistic and simple and call just enough to get the job done...Mostly yelps and clucks and perhaps a hard cutt if I feel I need to get the bird more excited.. I started with a box call ( I still have my Lynch World Champion and Foolproof boxes from the 1960s) but I eventually got reasonably proficient with a diaphragm...Over the years however, something has changed and I can no longer use the mouth calls..I have a few dozen of them still brand new in the package...I guess it is the " if you don't use it, you'll lose it" syndrome, which applies to other things too <<sigh>>... My turkey hunting style has changed, also, going from years of running and gunning to mostly static blind hunting now...The extra movement required to run a box call is not much of an issue when you are concealed in a blind.. I have a couple of custom made wingbone calls, but I never took the time to get proficient with them...I can make chipmunk sounds with them, but not realistic turkey sounds, IMHO.. I always carry a pot and striker that I sometimes use for clucking and purring, but most of the time I use one of my box calls..I think I have about 14, at last count..
  9. DAT B D one.....Works good... Comfortable...conceals the outline of the pistol and stays in your pocket when you draw....
  10. I figured you'd be packing...I would not be at all surprised if Nomad and TF were packing also...In fact I'd be surprised if they weren't......Jerry..I really don't know, but if he wasn't I can say he still quite secure.....Hehehe...
  11. I'm awaiting my bag of Imperial Whitetail clover..Should arrive this week...I plan to have it frost seeded within a week...I am planting it on my winter wheat plot from last fall...
  12. Hehehehe...Nope, Jerry, I dress left and it looks more like a spare .38 cartridge....<<sigh>>…..
  13. I use the Uncle Mike's pocket holster with my similar M637...Front jeans pocket strong hand..If anybody has ever noticed it, they did not tell me...I was carrying it when we met in Geneva...
  14. Killed lots of them in the woods, Rob...This time of the year you MUST set up in evergreens.....Find a pine or hemlock stand and then find an area where you have opening overhead to shoot.. Call from there..When they come in it will be fast and furious..Good luck....A'int no WAY you will ever call crows in the open ( leafless) hardwoods this time of the year..
  15. I figured he was in the hospital for injuries suffered when he crashed his vehicle after losing control while swerving trying to run over a coyote...

    Netflix's

I'd rather go quail hunting with Dick Cheney than go for a car ride with Ted Kennedy...
  17. Not to mention sniffing Moog's BUTT the next time you meet up with him.....
  18. I prefer girl scouts..I like'em better when there is a little fur on the biscuit....
  19. Damn !! That sounds disgusting, Tony !! I am going to have to try it !!...Hehehe.... Speaking of the Fagioli, Years ago I ate lunch often in a little bar/grill on market street in Corning...The proprier's father was from the old country, and cooked in the bar... On Fridays he would come out to the bar and ask the customers, " You wanta Fazool ?......
  20. Arby's makes one of the best fastfood fish sandwiches, IMHO....During Lent the crispy fish is 2 for $5.00.....The Mermaid and I eat them at least once a week....
  21. The LACK of barrel break in is probably the LAST reason the barrel does not shoot well....I would address all the other issues before I even begin to worry about barrel break in...
  22. Perhaps, but I haven't been down your way lately...
  23. I have a definite ID..Those tracks were made by a Quasi- varigated, semi- reticulated Snotweasle….. I've seen LOTS of 'em…..They mate this time of the year...The mating process is pretty disgusting, so since this is a family forum, I will refrain from giving the details...No need to thank me..As an old veteran woodsmen I enjoy sharing my vast knowledge of the outdoors...
  24. Of course, Stormy,,,,It's an Italian quail gun.....Made for shooting da bob-a- white....
