Fine buck and a great detailed account of the hunt......CONGRATS !

The BEST whiskey I ever drank was JD from a yellow plastic coffee cup, chased with water from a spring fed tundra stream about 200 miles from the nearest road near the Mulchatna River in Alaska. You could jump across that creek, but it ran fast and deep...The water was so cold it was painful to immerse your hand in it..I washed my hair in it one day and it made my scalp numb.. That was back when I HAD hair....<<sigh>>...

No, that was Maxwell Smart......Would you believe.....?.....

A Canadian friend bought me a bottle last spring...I like it... I have not looked for it locally..I guess I thought it was a Canadian thing..

I am not a connessiuer of scotch...I DO NOT like cheap scotch.... I have had some better quality scotch that I enjoyed very much, but I can't afford to buy it.

I like the Gentlemen Jack and the Single Barrel...Can't stomach the Honey...TOO sweet....

What's you favorite skull varnish, and how do you prefer to drink it ? I'm a real blue collar type when it comes to whiskey...I SIP it straight, chased with beer... I don't like to dilute it with anything, even ice cubes.. I consider it practically CRIMINAL to take perfectly good whiskey and mix it with soda pop.... My standard drink is Jack Daniels, just good ol' #7...I love the characteristic bite and it ALWAYS tastes the same from bottle to bottle. I am also very fond of Crown Royal, but my WALLET isn't.. I generally just buy it on my annual spring gobbler hunt when I can get it at the duty free store for about half of what I would pay for it locally.

Mannix...First TV gumshoe that I remember carrying his snub .38 in the small of his back....

I have heard other good wingshots say the same thing.. Perhaps you find the broader outline around the sighting plane distracting. I have never seen much difference in my ability to hit with the S/S, O/U, or repeaters, as long as the gun fits me... Might be my shooting style...When I shoot I am concentrating on the target and am not deliberately conscious of the sighting plane.

Looking forward to seeing the pictures, TF....

Absolutely....The Ithaca Lefevers are fine old guns and the drawn steel barrels are safe with modern loads.. You can also buy black power loads if you want to shoot your twist/Damascus guns... I have shot my Dad's old twist Ithaca hammer gun with black powder reloads...Shoots good, but with 30" full choke barrels it is kind of a heavy old girl to haul around..

Hehehehehehe....You, Sir, are a turd poker......<<wink>>....

You are correct..7MM is .284 ".... 280 is just Remington's label for their cartridge when they developed it to compete with Winchester's 270, which uses .277" bullets, by the way. American cartridges are a real hodgepodge of labels which are often misleading...Some are even named after people who developed them, like the .257 Roberts and the .416 Taylor...
-
Sad......
-
Not exactly....They use the same bullets, but the 7mm Rem mag has a considerably larger case capacity than the .280, and is capable of higher velocities with equal bullet weights..
-
I personally think that they are somewhat crude and ugly as a side order of s**t, but they work and they have a reputation for being scary accurate...

That would probably be the savage 340... I hunted pronghorns on a ranch in Wyoming a few years back...The rancher's son showed us around the farm in his big Chevy 3500 pickup...In the cab, right next to his leg, was a 788 in .243, barrel cut down to about 17 or 18 inches, dusty and beat to hell.. He said it went everywhere on the ranch that he went and had accounted for dozens of coyotes, jackrabbits , prairie dogs and a good number of antelope and mule deer.. Every time I remember that rifle I think of you...<<grin>>....

hehehehehehe...I have a perfect reply for that, but it would probably get me bounced off the forum...I'm walking on thin ice as it is....hehehehehe....

Hehehehehehe... My rabbit hunting buddy ( another Old Buzzard) , with whom I am hunting tomorrow, uses a 16 gauge LeFever Nitro Special...

BEAUTIFUL shotguns, Al...!! I have always loved side by sides and have owned 3 in 20 gauge, 2 in 12 gauge and 1 each in 28 and .410... Currently I only have my SKB 20 gauge M100 and a 12 gauge Ithaca hammer double made in 1899, which my dad bought for $10 back around 1940... I also own a Browning 12 gauge Citori field grade O/U, which I have used mostly for ducks and pheasants.. I have owned and still do own a number of auto and pump shotguns, which I have used for deer, turkey and waterfowl, but probably 90% of the upland bird and rabbit hunting I have done has been done with one of my side by side doubles.. I shot a bunch of crows with them, too back in the day when I was crow hunting..
