  1. I find that as an old geezer I can get away with a lot more than I used to, because everyone knows I'm harmless... Either that or they just cut me some slack because they feel sorry for me... Either way, more fun more me !
  2. And what the ***** do you mean by THAT ..??..!!.... Damn kids, anyway..!!.....<<smile>>...
  3. You're wrong about Doc, Larry... He was Socrates' philosophical advisor...
  4. No, you're not really sorry...I'm going to call your wife and tell her she should spank you... You can thank me later...
  5. I have used only 2 scopes on my shotguns over the years...Both were early 1970s vintage El Paso steel tubed weavers, one in 1.5X and the other in 2.5X... Rugged scopes you could drive a truck over and they would still function. In my opinion, a straight 4X, while being an excellent all around rifle scope, is a bit high powered for a shotgun being used in close cover..The lower powered scopes have a definite advantage at ranges of 100 yards or less, ESPECIALLY if the target is moving..
  6. If he does, so what ?? You can do that with two of the most classic and successful pump guns ever made, the Winchester M12 and the Ithaca M37....

    Beer

I'd like to join you there but the Mermaid probably won't let me... Actually, where I'd RATHER be on my birthday is in a whorehouse in Bangkok, but she probably won't let me go THERE either... I'll probably just have to settle for going over to the legion for a shot and a beer....<<sigh>>....

  12. Over all, there were not as many good ones as usual... However, Kia's " Save The Whales" commercial with Melissa Mc carthy was a HOOT !!
  13. That's OK...I haven't dated anything but grandmothers for several years..

    Rattling

I no longer bowhunt, but the last half dozen deer I killed with the bow were all called in, either with rattling or grunting..I have had much better luck by "tickling" the antlers than with the very aggressive loud crashing that you see so often on the hunting shows..
  15. Send Maytom a PM....His turkey gun is a 1300 and I believe he uses an aftermarket choke..I'm sure he'll be glad to share info..
  16. Wow ! What a beautiful rifle, Al.... With your interest in quality single shot rifles, you should check out Joe Seeley in Campbell... He is a great all around gunsmith/gunmaker and his passion is fine single shot rifles.. He worked for Sharps for a number of years
  17. The only .22 that my dad ever owned was a Stevens M15 single shot...I used it to kill my first squirrel, rabbit, coon, fox, crow , woodchuck and grouse.. My Mom bought it for him for his birthday back in the 1950s..I think the retail price was less than $20 at that time at the local Western Auto store... I still have it.
  18. Keep things as simple as possible and don't worry about " fancy, high tech loads and tubes" at this point.. Do you have a standard full choke tube for your gun ? If so, buy a box of relatively inexpensive turkey loads, such as Win XX turkey loads or the equivalent in federal....Try # 6 shot first....Shoot them at a turkey head target from a benchrest..Adjust your sights so that the target is centered in the shot pattern...If you can put 8-10 shot in the head and neck, you are good to go. As far as calling goes, the basic calls are the hen yelp and the cluck...If you can make a string of 4-6 yelps IN THE PROPER CADENCE, you can call turkeys...Listen to recordings of real wild hen turkeys and try to match the cadence...Cadence is much more important than tone or pitch, which varies from bird to bird..Use what ever kind of call you feel comfortable with..Many hunters find a box call is the easiest call to become proficient with. The best advice was given by stubborn VT....Do not give up or become discouraged..Get out there as often as you can...
  19. I've wanted a Martini -Enfield since watching the movie " Zulu "..... And who could watch " Quigley Down Under" without longing for a Sharps or most any John Ford cavalry movie without wanting a trapdoor carbine...?..
