  1. Daveboone...That trip was on my " to do" list up until life changes pretty much put an end to my out of state hunting adventures.. I'm not much interested in a bear, but I think that the Sitka blacktails are by far the prettiest deer in North America and I have heard that they provide the very best venison.. I have made two fishing trips to southeast Alaska for halibut and salmon, and they were awesome..Many of the boat hunts for blacktails include fishing, crabbing, and even sea duck shooting, just to kep you from getting bored aftr you fill your deer tags.
  2. Shucks, trigger, you're only 28...You have lots of time...I never took my first out of state big game hunt ( except PA whitetails) until I was 39...Since then I have been fortunate to hunt moose, elk, caribou, pronghorns and mule deer in several Canadian provinces and several western states, including 5 do-it-yourself hunts in Alaska for moose and caribou.....
  3. AS long a were DREAMING, let's make it a long multi species pack train type hunt in the Canadian Rockies for sheep, goat, elk ,moose and mountain caribou, like Jack O'Connor did in the 1940s and 1950s.... Hell, you could even throw in a grizzly, as long as we're dreaming..
  4. I'll be interested in your report, Supermag...I have shot Remington autos all my life, 11s, 48s, 11-48s, 1100s and 11-87s, and I have always had good luck with them..
  5. I usually run over them with my brush hog and then find what is left of them on the next pass... The Mermaid must be a natural...The one and only time in the last 10 years that she walked through my food plot, she found a left and a right lying side by side, something that I have never done.
  6. I had 3 tang safety 77s over the years, a 25-06, a 7x57 and a .338 Win Mag. The 25-06 and the .338 shot lights out...The 7 x 57 shot PATTERNS rather than groups.. It was the only rifle I ever sent down the road because of accuracy issues...
  7. WAY cool, Machinist...All it needs to be perfect is a nice piece of walnut.....<<grin>>...........
  8. ARBY's crispy fish sandwich....On special this time of year , two sandwiches for $5.... Pretty damn good meal for The Mermaid and I for $2.50 apiece....
  9. Those saltwater panfish will probably be the tastiest fish you have ever eaten... Glad to see you are enjoying your vacation, Biz....
  10. I have carried many hundreds of pounds of meat over many miles of difficult terrain, and I have done my share of dragging, too. It is definitely easier carrying it on a packframe than dragging. Nowadays, I prefer to shoot them in a spot where I can back my truck up to them, lower my plywood ramp and slide them into the bed....<<grin>>.....

  12. ......................<< BLUSH >>..................
  13. I agree with Real....Blowing a 12 gauge slug out of your sinuses is pretty scary.... It is almost as bad as the time I opened a door and saw my mother-in-law naked.... I had not mentioned that because #1, it was not hunting related, and #2 it is just too traumatic for me to talk about... DAMN !!..Had to bring that up...Here come the VOICES again...I hope the Mermaid locked up the pistols again.....
  14. Ok.......IX-nay on the OKES-jay..... Tell ya what, NYB....Send me a couple of sticks of your sopressatta and I promise NEVER to tell another ethnic joke.....<<grin>>.....
  15. Those are some BODACIOUS perch there, Lee...!!
  16. I have never had an issue with my scopes gathering enough light anywhere NEAR legal shooting times, and that includes hunting in PA where the shooting hours are 1/2 hour before and 1/2 hour after sunrise & sunset. I have always been amazed at how bright and clear my Leupold fixed 4X scopes are in low light, even comparing them to my 8 x 42 Leica binoculars, which are not exactly bargain basement glass.
  17. Thanks, Growie... I'll be XTRA careful when I cross the street to go to Acorn for coffee in the morning....<<<grin>>>...
  18. The first thing that comes to mind was my first Alaska hunt, a float trip where my partner and I floated about 100 air miles down the Mulchatna River, which happened to be high due to daily rain at the time.. We encountered sweepers, deadfalls, and lots of other hazards to navigation, any one of which could have upset and killed us due to drowning or hypothermia.. There were several times in those two weeks when you could not have pulled my ass off that boat seat with a tractor.....
  19. The extended eye relief scopes are for pistols or for rifles that cannot mount a scope over the receiver... On any other firearm, they don't make much sense to me.. A good quality 2x to 4x conventional scope, on the other hand, is a VERY useful sighting system.... I just read a 1965 vintage article written by Jack O 'Connor about elk hunting His rifle was a custom 7MM Rem Mag....The scope was a Leupold fixed 4X.....
  20. In the picture it looks like he has an antenna on his tallywhacker... Trying to TRACK somebody, perhaps ?? Must be some of these alternative lifestyle dudes are going high tech... Am I being politically correct ?? I'm trying REAL hard to be.....hehehehe...
  21. RALPHIE.....Finally after all these years....you're OFF the HOOK..!!........hehehehe....
  22. I think that seagull in the background is laughing.....hehehehehehe....
