Excuse me , Larry, I'm not trying to highjack your thread and I ask the forgiveness of those of you who have heard this story before, but it is one of my favorites... An acquaintance had a rifle with an old scope and the CROSSHAIRS were missing from the scope. When another fellow looked through the scope and asked the owner how he ever hit anything with it since the crosshairs were missing, the owner replied... " It's a real BITCH until you get used to it ".

In your case, Larry, the POINT OF IMPACT of your gun is a given. You have shot many turkeys with your gun and patterned it previously, and since the POI will not vary significantly from load to load, pattern density is your main concern. Because of that, the soda can method will probably suffice. In the case of a person who has not put his gun on paper previously and may be unsure of the POI, or someone who is using adjustable or optical sights with which the POI may have shifted, using the big cardboard or sheet of paper is much more critical, because it will show if his gun happens to be shooting high, low, right or left.

Is Tim still making calls ? At one time I had discussed ordering one from him, but it never came about.

Sounds great, Elmo !! I never had them, but I sure do like shrimp and lobster .. It has always amazed me what a BROAD spectrum of distinct flavors that different seafood offers.. Shrimp , crab, lobster, scallops and clams all have their distinct flavors...And absolutely NOTHING in the world tastes any thing like oysters.

They are a small, young chicken butchered at 4 to 6 weeks of age.. Originally they were developed from a cross between a "Cornish" ( a certain breed of chicken) hen and a Maylasian game cock, hence the " Cornish Game Hen" label. However, both males and females are eaten and cross breeding over the years has no doubt resulted in hybrids that are sold today. Years ago you could buy them frozen at a very reasonable price, but they have become quite pricey in the last few years. I still indulge myself now and then, because they are very good.

That has to the John C. Holmes of the shellfish family. Kinda reminds me of....Well..never mind..

I do that often with lake trout or large stream trout..it is excellent that way, but it always seems to taste better done in camp on the coals of the campfire. Of course, EVERYTHING tastes better in camp. Hard to beat a chunk of moose or caribou impaled on a stick and then broiled about medium rare over the campfire..

I'm pretty good at clams and getting better at oysters. I agree with the " foil on campfire" method for cooking fish in camp..I usually throw the foil wrapped fish right on the coals and turn it once a minute . It doesn't take long, less than 10 minutes.I have done that with leaopard rainbows, grayling and dolly vardens in Alaska, trout all over the continent, and bass and walleyes in Canada..It's always succulent that way.

No raw oysters or clams ?

Geeze, Wooly, are you related to the Unibomber ? I think I know the girl that's sitting on your right shoulder.

I usually leave the heads on too..The cheeks are excellent.. Don't eat fish ??.. How sad.. I love anything that swims or crawls on the bottom of the ocean..

I have tried to avoid that for the last 66 years.. So far, so good... -
! Hehehehe..Those brookies are tasty ! Nice catch...Actually the wild browns are pretty good too..I just feel bad killing those fish unless they hooked bad enough so they may not survive..

September is the elk rut, but tags are a tough draw in AZ..It may even be too late to apply.

I fished 3 different Cohocton tribs.. Caught 2 fish from each stream.. My best fish was was 18 1/2 ", followed by a 16 " and 4 fish from 11-14".. All pretty, full colored wild browns.. I put them all back.

Hehehehe...I have had the same thing happen while using a mouth blown predator call at night, Rick.. There are advantages to being short..I figure that if I were a couple of inches taller, the owl would have NAILED me....<<grin>>...

I'd like to help, DP, but many streams and lakes have regulations SPECIFIC to their individual waters. General statewide rules are 5 fish per day, only 2 of which can be 12" or larger. However some waters have artificial lures only/fly fishing only/ no kill areas, so you really need to read the regs specific to the streams that you plan to fish.
