  1. Dat be a fisher, alright ! They can vary in size a LOT...A female may not be much bigger than a large mink, but a big male might weigh over ten pounds... The tail on that critter is much too full and heavy for a mink. Nice shot, Larry....Next time you'll be posting a picture of a MOOSE ! Speaking of moose, I applied for my NB moose tag today, have you done yours yet ?
  2. I'd love to own it, Larry, but it ain't my dream gun...Don't care for the monte carlo, the high gloss polyurethane looking finish, the overly busy checkering or the extended, white lined pistol grip cap.... Maybe Biz will buy it...All you have to do is convince him that it is a Weatherby...<<grin>>...
  3. A custom bolt action ( Model 70 or Mauser), deep blued metal in a real pretty classic style walnut stock with simple and functional checkering. No recoil pad.....22" barrel.....Chambered in .280 Rem, 7 x 64 , 7 x 57 or 8 x 57 weighing about 8 pounds scoped...
  4. Dang !..You're right...It WAS foggy !
  5. LMAO ! Yeah, Willy, I realized my mistake a few minutes after I made the post, but decided that wasn't worth the effort to change it, and probably nobody but some knobby kneed stump jumper named Woody would bother to bring it up... AS LONG AS I AM HERE, sorry Rick.....You probably wish your Momma had named you Bill, right ?.....<<grin>>....
  6. Nice story Al...Also a classic rifle and classic scope... My humble beginnings were similar..I shot my first woodchuck with my Dad's Stevens M15 single shot .22, which also required pulling back the striker to cock it manually.. After that my folks bought me a Winchester M69 A, which became my main chuck rifle...A couple years later I moved up to a Rem M722 in .222 Rem, but I still used the .22 a lot more because .222 rounds cost $3.00 per box of 20 but I could buy .22 LRHPS for 85 cents for a box of 50...
  7. My compliments on a beautiful call, Bill !! Sounds great ! The dude that is running it ain't no virgin !
  8. Whoa !!! Thank you all so very much for the birthday greetings.! Special thanks to Maytom and Lawdwaz for providing the photo entries, and of course the lovely PAULA for introducing the subject.. I was down in South Carolina last week visiting my seester ( She's a VIRGIN,Senior ) and I just got back in town and into cyberland today.. Thanks again...
  9. Depends....I have my " new to me" OLD rifle to wring out. It's my recently acquired 03A3 Springfield 30-06, with a 1950 ish Bishop stock and an old El Paso Weaver 2 x 7. I bought it because at $250, it was too good a deal to pass up. I've shot it a few times and it is very accurate with the same middle of the road load that I use in my Garand M1....Plenty flat and powerful enough for deer out to 300 yards or so. After it warms up a little and after I get through chasing turkeys this spring, I'll take it to the range and get more closely aquainted with it, and decide then whether to take hunting first day of season.
  10. I never set the clock in my truck back last fall. So in a couple of days it will read the correct time again, and I don't have to do a thing !
  11. CHUMLEY ??....Doing DRUGS ??... Who'd a THUNK it ??.....
  12. Years ago, in my " If it flies it dies" days, I shot plenty of them. Actually they are pretty challenging shotgun targets on the wing. I would stand in the cornfield up the hill from my house and pass shoot them as the flocks went over..They were good retrieving practice for my springer spaniel, too I haven't shot one in many years....Nowadays, I am an EQUAL OPPORTUNITY bird feeder...They all get to enjoy my sunflower seeds and suet, regardless of national origin, creed or color.
  13. Let's see, Ants....IMHO is " In My Humble Opinion", LMAO means Laughing My A** Off, EMS means " Eat My Shorts", etc. etc. etc. Oh yeah, one more..... MADEHYS means " May A Deranged Electrician Hotwire Your Sister"......
  14. Thanks for the info, Al ! I will definitely check it out.
  15. VERY nice, Airedale....I have a half a**ed collection ( actually an accumulation) of different cartridges and shells that I have kept through the years...They sat in an unorganized mess on a shelf for years..This winter I re-organized my gun room and the cartridge collection currently in a BOX in the garage.. I would be interested in displaying them in a board or case such as yours.. I have a few interesting items that you don't see everyday, such as 25-20, 32-20, 38-40 , .22 WRF, 25-36 Marlin, .303 Savage, 38-55 and others, as well as some vintage shotgun shells, some with the patent # still printed on them.
  16. Hmmmm..I just talked to a buddy of mine and he just found 3 sheds while frost seeding his clover plot.. Maybe you're just not holding your MOUTH right....<<grin>>...
  17. According to NWTF records, the longest recorded spur length is 2.250" for an Eastern..It was a tie. One bird was taken in Kentucky and the other one in Iowa.
  18. The NWTF keeps records and perhaps some individual states do too. I didn't dig it up, but I'm pretty sure that some have been taken with 2 inch spurs.. The longest that I have ever seen personally were 1 1/2 "....My personal best is 1 7/16 "....
  19. The Finger Lakes ( at least the deeper ones) are ice free... I fished Keuka Tuesday with 2 friends..We were looking for perch, but we found trout instead. Casting hair jigs into points in 20-40 feet of water, we caught a pickerel, a 4 pound brown and 9 lakers. Those trout were great fun on light spinning tackle in relatively shallow water.. Much more fight than when dragging them up from the depths with heavy trolling gear.
  20. I once asked an older friend of mine why my waistline kept growing but I didn't seem to gaining weight. His one word answer was " Gravity"......
  21. Sweet little rig, Airedale.. I like aperture sights too, but I have noticed that they are tough to see through in low light. When I hunt my Garand with the issue battle sights I have to give up some prime time at dawn and dusk, especially in the hemlocks. That short, light, low power Leupy should be just the ticket on your carbine !
