  1. You have a Browning Double Automatic ? It's been YEARS since I've seen one, in the field or in a gunshop..

I hope you KISS her first...
  3. Jaeger... I'm getting the impression that you are a " heavy for caliber" kinda guy...<<grin>>...

There you go, Paula...Invite Wooly over and the two of you can sit on the couch and watch the program together.. Just make sure you FRISK him at the door for a turkey baster !!

Wooly wouldn,t know what to do with a cow either... But a sheep....Hmmmmm...I always WONDERED where he got that screen name... Shorts and knee high boots..??..

I think Wooly would be the perfect candidate for the " Extraction Technician" job... I can just picture him tiptoeing around the deer pen in his buck costume wielding his custom made " Suck-U-Lator" turkey baster... The does would probably be gaga over him, because they've never seen a dominant buck wearing SHORTS before..

Dicks ?? Could you be talking about that adult novelty place down the road ? " Dicks for Chicks".....?.....
  8. With cartridges in the "40 grains and up" capacity range, like most deer rounds on up, I seldom mess with half grains while developing a load. Jump a grain maybe even 2 grain with larger cases, until I identify a trend..I save the fractions of a grain for fine tuning, and even then never go finer that .5 grain.. Now if I were loading say, a .222 rem, it would be different... The one exception is when I am loading near max...Often high intensity cartridges shoot most accurately just as hot as you can safely load them..If I know I'm approaching max but the group is still shrinking, I will work up in .5 grain increments.
  9. I shot a limit of squirrels in an hour Tuesday morning in a light but steady rain... I wouldn't go out in a down pour, but I wouldn't hesitate to put on my lightweight rain parka and hunt squirrels in a light rain or intermittent showers... In the wet woods, you can walk VERY quietly...

I wonder how they extract those...??... I can picture some dude in a big buck costume sneaking up behind a hot doe with a turkey baster....
  11. I went up to check my food plots and they were full of geese..I may have to pick up my duck stamp... Oats and new clover seeding are going like gangbusters...Brassicas are growing well too, although I may have got them in a little late for good root development on the turnips and radishes...the deer will still chow down on the greens, however..
  12. You,ve got enough rifles to arm the entire forum !! Glad your Krag shoots good !! Is that your handload or a factory load ?
  13. I'm going to drive up to the property and watch my food plots soak up this much needed rain..<<GRIN>>...
  14. Not a lot of details yet...He shot the buck at 245 yards according to his rangefinder. It was not the buck he was looking for . He looked over 28 bucks and saw only one real bruiser ( 200 class)..He said his stalk was goofed up by a sheep hunter.. He shot this buck on the last day of his hunt to avoid eating the tag. Had to pack it 2.5 miles and up 1000feet in elevation. He did say that this was the the most physically demanding hunt he has ever done and he has done some tough ones. At this point , since he got to look over that many bucks in a week'shunt, I would guess he is happy with the service that he received from Antlerquest, but I won't get the details until he gets home..
  15. I can't see 10 grains in bullet weight one way or another making much difference at 30-30 velocities,. Fun to play with ?....Maybe.... Difference in the real world ? Not much..
  16. Update....My buddy killed a nice mulie with my reloads...Must be the loads worked OK.. He sent me an email picture of the deer, but I don't have the computer savvy to post it.. Can anybody help me out ? PM me if you you can..
  17. The Painted Post Field and Stream Club on Beartown Road has the best rifle range in the area...Covered benchrests, multiple shooting stations and targets out to 200 Meters.. The last I knew membership fees were reasonable, less than $50 per year.. I live in Addison and belong to the Addison Fish & Game Club ( since 1967). Addison has a shooting house and 100 and 200 yard target butts, but is not as elaborate as PPFS..
  18. I never much shot much of ANYTHING through my 25-06 that didn't group under an inch... And I sold it....It was just too long and heavy for me to enjoy carrying around the woods..
  19. I hunted the same hickory grove this morning that I hunted 10 days ago...Killed 6 adult greys and not one of them had a warble in it.. I can't credit the weather, because it's been hot..Either today was a co-incidence, or perhaps the time for most of the larvae to have hatched and exited their squirrely hosts has passed..
  20. I'd have to check the map to be sure, but I don't think Erwin GMA is in 8X...
  21. You can have faith in that bullet, Grampy...I used the 7mm 140 Nosler BT for years and killed lots of game with it, mostly in my .280, but also in my 7MM-08.. It never let me down and performed well on whitetails, mule deer, pronghorns and caribou. I have recently switched to Barnes X bullets for all of my game loads, but it was not due to any shortcoming of the Nosler bullet..
  22. I can see Pinnacle state Park from my back deck...It is primitive weapons ( bows, muzzleloaders) for deer, but is excellent hunting and gets light pressure. Adjacent McCarthy Hill Is open to any legal weapon and gets very light pressure after opening weekend. I killed my biggest buck there, 175 lb (dressed) 8 point a few years ago...Try the southeastern corner...It's a long drag ( or pack, if you quarter it) but it has produced some whoppers over the years...
  23. I make no pretense that my handloads are greatly superior to factory stuff...Handloading is a hobby in itself, which I enjoy, and I get a lot of satisfaction in assembling custom loads for my rifles with MY choice of components and killing stuff with them.. Could I buy factory loads that kill game just as well as my handloads ? Hell yes !!
  24. As far as centerfire rifle ammo goes, I have used very little factory ammo.. I have handloaded all of my rifle ammo since the 1970s... I shot 2 bucks with factory 7x57 ammo in the early 70s, and I shot one buck with a 25-06 factory load since then.. My .280 and my 9.3 x 62 have never had a factory load fired in them..I shot a box of factory loads through my 7mm08 when I first bought it for barrel break in, but have never hunted with it with factory loads.
