Really? Your wife doesn't like that you hunt so much?
Pygmy replied to nyantler's topic in General Hunting
Holy crap, Elmo !! You mean the kid bit her EAR off..??... She'll have a heck of a time wearing her glasses now.... -
Was it anything like Dago Red ? My Uncle Guido used to make about a hundred gallons of that a year..
-
I'd share a blind with Growie and Paula any fine day ! I'd sit in the middle and they could make a Pygmy sandwich of me...<< BIG SMILE >>....
-
Is she good looking ? I might consider sharing MY stand with her... On second thought, she really doesn't have to be THAT good looking... Why raise my standards at my advanced age ? Is she FEMALE..?.. Does she have a PULSE..??.. She'll probably do, as long as she doesn't TALK to much..

As much as I love my walnut and blued finishes, I must agree with Steve.. The recent breed of affordable rifles are very accurate and functional..I was just reading that Winchester has got in the game with model of their own..

Yup...Been THERE....That's why I don't HAVE a wife anymore.... I did get a HECK of a lot of hunting in over the years, though...<<smile>>... -
What Daveboone said... The 6 o'clock hold is standard for target shooters with iron sights, and works equally well for hunting...
-
Well said, Hock y.... Yeah, Fearthebeard...In most areas, rutting activity comes to an abrupt HALT the first few days of season, at least during daylight hours... By the way, did anybody ever tell you that your head is on sideways ?...<<grin>>....
-
Forget the rut...Hunt escape routes...Every deer in the woods is going to be headed for the densest tangle of hiding/escape cover available...
-
It certainly won't hurt anything to leave the proof of sex attached.. Then when you get back home you can tan the scrotum and make a change purse for Rob out of it..
-
I was a mere lad of 34 the last time this occurred...Chances are I'll never see another one...
-
Hehehehe...On a rare SERIOUS note, (rare for me), I do have clear skies and have a beautiful view of the eclipse from my back deck as I type this..Cool..!!
-
No, Rob..... The question was " Are you required to leave proof of sex attached ?" Some areas where I have hunted and it is general practice to butcher game in the field and pack it out, it IS required to leave proof of sex "naturally attached".. As an example, your bull elk may be totally skinned, quartered and in meat bags, but you have to leave a strip of skin containing the scrotum and testicles attached to one hind quarter.

Too bad you lost your tree, G-man.. There was one about the same size on my Dad's property that produced nuts for quite a few years before the blight finally got it...
-
Hmmmm.. Last time I saw a supermoon was when I spotted ol' Wanda Duckwort squatting down to water a petunia down behind Lester Whipsnead's hog barn... Sort of reminded me of a grizzly bear with it's head cut off...

HERE I COME, TO SAVE THE DAAAAAAY !!!! Any of y'all remember " Mighty Mouse" ?
-
Nice... I did some work on one just like it except in 30-06 last winter...The sad thing is that the old gent that owns it hunts and shoots very little anymore, and he'll probably never use it.. It has an old Redfield scope on it with a post/crosshair..Shoots pretty damn good with 150 grain Rem green factory loads..I think he should give it to me..

I used to like open sights and used them frequently before I developed " geezer eyes"....I used to be pretty good at shooting running rabbits and hand thrown beer bottles with my Ruger 10/22...But that was back when Moby Dick was a minnow.. I can still use peep sights effectively..My TC Hawken .50 cal. has a tang peep, and I use the issue peep sight when I hunt with my M1 Garand...I have done some accurate shooting at over 100 yards with both of these rifles at targets, but I don't remember ever killing a deer with either one of them at over 75 yards...They work fine at woods hunting range, though...

Our phone at home looked like a black dial phone, but did not have a dial on it... We'd pick up the receiver and the operator would come on the line and say " Number please".... My home number was 242-M1.... My first love's number was 416-J... We were on a party line, as were many people because private lines were more expensive...Our ring was one long...Neighbors knew each other's rings and the local busybodys would pick up there phone and listen in on your conversation... Of course with mine, usually all they would hear was heavy breathing....<<grin>>....

Reasons why some will never buy another Remington Firearm.
Pygmy replied to Mr VJP's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
I'm not qualified to comment on recent mfg. Remingtons, since the newest one I have was bought 20 years ago. However, I have owned 48s, 11-48s, 870 Wingmasters, several 1100s, an 11-87,, a 700 , a 722 and an XP-100, and they have all been quality firearms.. The only real lemon of a rifle I ever owned was an early tang safety Ruger 77 in 7 x 57...Had trouble keeping the shots on a 9" paper plate at 100 yards..Ruger was buying their barrels from several sources for the early 77s, and while some were tackdrivers, others had accuracy issues.. I had 2 other tang safety 77s, a 25-06 and a .338 Win mag, and they were both very accurate. The only real lemon of a scope I ever had was a 2x7 Redfield, which just happened to be mounted on the Ruger when I sent it down the road.. -
Yes, my little Starling....

Sorry, Eddie... I was a little bored and decided to educate a few of you pilgrims about some of NY's more bizarre flora and fauna... I suspect that Wooly and I are about the only members who know about some of this stuff.. Like the 'aggravated owl"... The "aggravated owl" is so named because..well...er.....Never mind.....

I have seen a few during NY/Pa gobbler season, but not nearly as many as I have seen in Ontario gobbler season..I have shot 3 while gobbler hunting in Ontario and see at least one up there nearly every year.. It might be because I tend to hunt more open, flat land in Canada, while here at home I hunt more in the woods..
