  1. Yeah...Some of those Hollywood Firearms are pretty amazing. Near the end of " Wild Bill" the hero fired at least 24 shots from two cap&ball revolvers without reloading. Movie submachineguns are that way too...Many times I've seen shooters fire 200 or 300 rounds from a gun with a 20 or 30 round mag without reloading.
  2. It has always been my understanding that most anywhere with decent hunting in AZ is a tough draw, even for residents. If you want to be able to hunt every year I suspect you may want to explore OTC units in nearby Colorado. All that said, if you do manage to draw a tag, the elk hunting is top shelf, both in quality and quantity of animals. Good luck on your relocation.
  3. That might save your butt, Sissy-Boy....LOL....
  4. WAAAY cool, Dinsdale... I like the picture of the giraffe... I assume that if you are hunting them, ELEVATION would not be a real big issue..<<smile>>.. Glad to hear the remembrances made it back in good shape.. Is springbok good ? How would you compare it to whitetail venison ?
  5. The Mermaid and I slept in after our long drive home in the snow yesterday . I'm whipping up some sausage & eggs as I type this and plan to go up to the property later and clean out my bluebird boxes. I normally clean them in late February, but this year I would have had to wade up to my cojones in snow to do that.
  6. Yep, that's another one of my favortites... I'll have to check out the one in "Heat"..Never saw the flick.

    Weights/sinkers

As far as I know, it is not illegal to make them, possess or to use them. It is illegal to sell them.
  8. I AM thinking positive .. Anybody with enough class to buy a Ruger #1 International and mount a 4X Leupold on it would NEVER part with it if he was alive !
  9. That one rates right up near the top, Skillet.. The first time I saw that , I was in Douglas, Wyoming on an antelope hunt. My 2 buddies and I went to see the movie in a little theater in Douglas on a Tuesday night..The theater was PACKED with locals...Everybody loved it.
  10. So THAT explains it... I was wondering where all of those naked, big breasted Russian nymphomaniacs got my email address !!
  11. I credit Wildcat Junkie for the inspiration of this thread. My favorite is a very unique sequence filmed in slow motion. The shootout between Elliot Ness and another Treasury Agent with several of Al Copone's thugs on a stairway in a train ( or bus) station. It takes place in slow motion and is complicated by a baby carriage, with baby aboard, bouncing down the stairway with the gun battle taking place all around it. A number of firearms are involved, including a Winchester Model 12 riot gun (Ness) a Thompson Submachinegun, a couple of 1911's and several vintage Colt and S&W revolvers.... Really cool sequence, and the baby survives as the last bad guy is dispatched by a treasury agent who is lying on his back supporting the baby carriage with his foot...
  12. A Leupold 4x scope ? The original owner knew what he was doing ..<<grin>>... His WIDOW probably sold it.
  13. That reminds of a quote from JFK on November 21 , 1963.. " Dammit, Jackie....I need to to go to DALLAS tomorrow like I need a hole in my head"...
  14. And besides that, those big, long cartridges hanging on the front of your vest look SOOOO cool !!...<<grin>>... Picture Stewart Granger in a 1950s safari flick... Of course the limey dork probably never shot a REAL rifle in his life..!!.. hehehehe....
  15. Yes I did, and the fish won... The first time I went fishing around the docks and shoreline near my sister's home, I hooked a fish on about my third cast on ( what else) a 1/8oz. brown hair jig. I got him close to shore and got a good a good look at him. It was about a 2 lb. spotted bass, a species which I had never caught, and still HAVEN'T, because he spit the hook !! I fished 3 or 4 more times and neveer had another bite..I had a few bass make passes at my lures, but did not strike.. Finally, on the last evening, I resorted to bottom fishing for catfish with shrimp for bait..Couldn't catch any of THEM, either..
  16. I didn't answer for my JUST BECAUSE caliber.. I'm TORN on that... Part of me wants a 45/70 lever gun with a ghost ring peep... Part of me wants a classy single shot like a Ruger #1 in some cool classic chambering like .303 British.. Ruger made a few of those awhile back for the Canadian market... Part of me wants a sleek commercial Mauser in 9.3 x 57 as an ultimate NY and PA woods rifle... Then I see something really cool like an unissued #4 SMLE in .303and think how much I'd like to use it to hunt deer with the issue sights.. Then I realize I need another firearm like I need another HOLE in my head...<< SIGH >>....
  17. Thank you all for the birthday greetings... I ate GREAT, tipped a few toddies and soaked in a few days of 70-80 degree South Carolina weather.. Then I drove home through the snow....hehehe....
  18. My garand is WWII vintage..At least the reciever ( 1943 Springfield Armory) The other parts, WHO KNOWS ? because most garands were rebuilt time after time, even the Korean War vintage ones. They were designed so that you could take 50 rifles, completely disassemble them, throw all the parts in a pile and them reassemble them at random and each rifle should function properly AND group within specs, which was perhaps 2 to 4 MOA. Can't remember for sure. It has it's battle scars, and I enjoy shooting it and hunting with it... Even it were pristine, I'd still take it out , because it is such a pleasure to shoot.
  19. Hmmmm... I never do ANYTHING against the law... I also never have ANY problems with feral dogs or cats.. I guess I am just LUCKY that way...
  20. There is a product named RIG that is supposed to be very good for long term storage...It's a grease..

    Hard Water Fishing

What a generous offer, Grampy...THANKS. As por MOI, I'm heading for South Carolina for a few days.. My sister has a place on a lake down there and I may see if I can catch a few crappies or spotted bass.. In open water and 70 degree temps....<<grin>>...
  22. Steve, Ol' Buddy... You don't spend a lot of time in ELEVATORS, do you..?
