The perfect North American pair

Mythological creature ?? You mean the Easter Bunny isn't REAL..??... -
I wouldn't think that a 16" barrel on a 30-30 would affect the ballistics too much. It might be a little on the LOUD side, though..

The perfect North American pair

I'm not sure I adhere to that theory... I have shot perhaps 150 big game animals myself, and seen quite a few others shot by my partners over the years. I butcher my own game, so I can do a good post mortem of the terminal effects. I can never remember a medium or big game animal dropping in it's tracks from a heart/lung shot unless the bullet hit or CAME CLOSE to the spine or a major skeletal feature like a shoulder. I once shot a whitetail buck a 100 grain bullet in a 25-06 and made a high lung shot. The bullet did not break the spine, but it passed close enough underneath it to affect it with it's shock wave. It dropped in it's tracks.I have also seen several animals take non fatal hits ABOVE the spine and drop like a rock, but then recover and attempt to run off unless a finishing shot is made. Maybe the timing has been off on the animals I've seen killed..All I know is that probably 99% of the animals I have seen heart shot or center lung shot have run or staggered from 10 to 100 yards before piling up, unless the CNS or major skeletal features have been affected. -

More than necessary perhaps, but as long as proper bullets are used( stoutly constructed enough so they don't explode) what's the problem..?..Dead is dead.. That said, I am not a fan of the .30 magnums because I consider them a niche chambering, neither fish nor fowl, but I do have friends who use them as all around medium and big game cartridges and they do work just fine with appropriate bullets for the application at hand. One of my best hunting buddies, whom I affectionately call Fungus Face, uses his .300 Win mag for everything, and it serves him well. He's a good shot and is as recoil proof as a tractor tire. For him it is a perfect all around chambering. -
I don't have two rifles in the same chambering, but the two that I use the most ( 7mm08 and .280 Rem) are very similar in performance. They both use the same 7mm bullets but with equal bullet weights the .280 has a slight edge in velocity due to a bigger powder capacity. The 7mm08 is a Rem Mountain rifle. It is short action, light and very handy..Perfect for whitetails in the woods and capable of making 300 yard+ shots should I happen to get an opportunity at one. The .280 is a Winchester model 70..It's a little bigger and heavier than the mountain rifle and I tend to use it more in open country where I anticipate longer shots..

That would be a good either/or mix...Not much you could do with one that you couldn't do with the other.. For a two rifle battery I'd prefer something heavier on the upper end to avoid overlapping performance.. A .270 or a 30-06 plus a .338 Win mag would be a good example.. OR just simplify it and get a rifle in the .270/.308/30-06/7mm mag class and use it for everything. But what fun would THAT be ??...hehehehehe... -
Geeze, Dom, you're about a month too late.. A friend of mine had a pre-64 Winchester M70 in .22 hornet.. It was in very good condition, but had a couple of non factory holes drilled/tapped which negatively affected its collector value..It was a fine shooter, though..He sold it for around $700, give or take 50...A great value for the price...No way would you you find a modern rifle of that quality for that price.

I broke a firing pin on my Dad's ( now mine) 1899 Ithaca hammer double by dry firing it...Perhaps it was because of the metallurgy of the time.. Fortunately Dad was a machinist and he made another firing pin for the shotgun...

Cornhole TENNESSEE !!!! You just made my day, Larry !!! LMAO !!. I wish I had the foresight to buy my lifetime license when they first were available..It seemed like a lot of money at the time, but I would be money ahead now.. Too late for me now...I don't even buy green bananas....

Some 60s humor.. How do you tell a monkey from a hippie...?.. Give him a banana.. If he eats it, he's a monkey...If he smokes it, he's a hippie...

I do....50s, 60s, early 70s pop and rock ...But NOT heavy metal stuff.. In the last few years I have also become a fan of country...Old AND new... For the last two days, " Seven Spanish Angels" by Ray Charles and Willie Nelson has been running through my head.. I am also a huge fan late 50s/early 60s genre folk music...Kingston Trio, Chad Mitchell Trio, etc. etc....

Sweet rig !! With modern choke tubes and load options, the 3 inch 20 is a very capable turkey slayer at ranges further than most of us would choose to shoot.

My sister went through TWO corvairs...Rolled 'em both over.. She was always a little heavy on the gas pedal. She still IS and she's almost 70...hehehehe...

I remember my Dad's '57 Chevy Bel Air...White and kind of a flesh color... The 60's were my teen years, and I had 3 different '57 vehicles...A '57 Ford F-100, a '57 Ford Fairlane, and a '57 Dodge Coronet, complete with a 360, air, and a push button transmission. It also had a back seat the size of a COUCH...Loved that car..<<grin>>....

Looking for a Hornet, Dinsdale ? Wish I had known that...It wasn't a single shot, but a Win M70 circa early 1950s.. Went for $750... It had a couple of extra d/t holes in it, but was really a nice specimen otherwise..
