  1. I don't even SEE a couple dozen in hayfields during a summer anymore...There are still some around, but they live mostly in roadside ditches and under people's buildings.... I think it is because the coyotes ( which were non-existant back when I hunted woodchucks) have become very adept at hunting woodchucks in hayfields... In the summer of 1966, when I was 16, I killed 75 woodchucks, mostly with my Winchester M69 .22 rimfire...I had a Rem 722 in .222 rem, but the cartridges cost $3.15 for 20 rounds, and I could buy a box of .22 LR hollow points for 85 cents...nearly all of them were shot on local pastures and hayfields..Today I seldom see a woodchuck den in a hayfield..
  2. You could have given him a little tap with a piece of Styrofoam and got a lifetime's supply...
  3. I applied for many years and gave up a few years back...I continued applying in New Brunswick until this year, but did not apply this year..Not sure I could go up if I drew...
  4. He probably walked over to Denison and got run over by a truck....

    Chautauqua Lake

Back when Moby Dick was a minnow, Chataugua was New York State's premiere musky fishery, for numbers of fish, although The St. Lawrence was king for size... Perhaps things have changed as most fisheries in NY have changed over the years.. I don't keep track of musky fishing much, since I have little interest in it...Too much time spent for too few fish..I prefer fishing for species where I can catch numerous fish in a few hours, rather than spend days trying to catch one fish..
  6. Nowhere near that point, Bill...Except for a bit of personal attack, like suggesting people who don't share the same viewpoint are not very intelligent, this thread has remained relatively civil....I get tired of reading this political BS myself, but no one is forcing me to click on this thread.. I think I'll get away from here and talk about hunting and fishing instead, but I would vote a resounding NO to locking it...
  7. Latka Gravas.." In my country, everybody gets along with everybody..If you don't they shoot you".....Or words to that effect...
  8. Typical liberal dribble....First they tell you that you are stupid because you don't agree with their views, then they call you a racist.
  9. You should have grown up down here in Dogpatch....Our Prom Queen could eat an ear of corn through a picket fence.... I was walking down a trail in the woods one time and accidently happened to spot our Homecoming Princess squatting under a pine tree..Looked like a grizzly bear with it's head cut off...
  10. Just when I thought it was safe to back in the water....
  11. As I am sure you know Bill, rainstorms are NOT a big issue with poult survival as long as they are not accompanied by below average temps.. Hope your bearded lady shows up followed by a parade of fuzzballs...A local friend of mine used to do a lot of turkey photography ( back in the 35 MM days)...He had a local bearded hen and had pictures of her over 3 or 4 years with a total of 43 poults...
  12. Thank goodness...Since I never do anything illegal, I was about to turn myself in to the authorities for carrying while wearing my mask while entering the foyer at Mabel's House of Pleasure.... Actually, I was wearing my " Tim Mc Graw covid 19 mask and nothing else, but I had my J frame S&W under my cowboy hat....
  13. The average hatching date for turkey poults in NY is June 13, according to a study that was done a number of years ago...That means that the weather during the second and third week of June, is of utmost importance to a successful hatching season...For quite a few years we have been plagued by wet, cold weather during June...That kind of weather is deadly for turkey poults, who can easily succumb to pneumonia and exposure in such weather while they are in the down stage, despite the efforts of the brood hen... So far this June, while perhaps not ideal for gardeners, has been ideal for turkey poult survival..Forecast is for at least another week of similar weather.... We may have the best turkey hatch that we have had in several years...
  14. You don't know that his daddy bought his deferment...You are just guessing, because his daddy was rich...Perhaps he did, perhaps he didn't... Provide proof that something illegal occurred.. My statement concerning the people who CHOSE to flee the country rather than serve, with the knowledge that they could not return without facing criminal charges, STANDS.... At age 19, 20 or 21 my friends and classmates and I certainly had things we would much rather be doing than serving in the military...However we chose to serve rather than flee the country...The fact that they were allowed to return with no legal repercussions sticks in my craw, and a lot of other veterans from my era feel the same way..
  15. Sorry...BIG difference between someone with a medical defferment and someone who blatantly fled the country to avoid serving in the military...

  19. Yeah, pastor...I worked with a guy who served under Patton...He had nothing good to say about him, but he got the job done...
  20. I have always thought The Donald was a raging asshole,, and I still do....However a person does not have to be a nice guy to do a good Job...George Patton was an egotistical asshole too, but he was one of our very best generals in WWII..He got the job done...That is what Trump is doing now... Chef says that if he had shred of EMPATHY the riots and unrest would be over by now...I call BS...Those people are promoting their political agendas and empathy would only be seen as a sign of weakness... I am 70 years old, and served in the Navy during the Vietnam War..I guess I lost my sense of EMPATHY when the streets were full of racial and anti war rioters burning things down when my buddies and classmates were doing their duty to their country and many of them dying, while many of the hippies, dopers, and flower children fled to Canada, only to be pardoned by Jimmy Carter after the war's end....Jimmy carter was a very nice southern gentleman, with a lot of EMPATHY, and thought he was doing the right thing to heal the country... To those of us who served, it was a big slap in the face to see those draft dodgers who fled to Canada return home scott free...End of rant...….
  21. If that protestor had even a SHRED of EMPATHY, that poor truck driver wouldn't have an extra hole in his head right now.. Trump's fault again....Poor role model on the EMPATHY thing, which by the way would have CERTAINLY stopped the rioters and thugs from raising hell … I have met a few rioters, and they seemed to be very empathetic, especially when I offered them drugs, booze, and free sneakers...
