“Zombie deer” right? Articles and news coverage...but “thousands” of dead deer raise no eyebrows from DEC or the public who have flooded the woods and parks and hiking trails since Covid. I get it exists in some pockets (and it sucks that it’s yore’s and Matt’s pockets of woods) since a biologist told me so, but the “sky is falling” and no more coverage except two forum posters seems strange. A few years back I shot a bunch and had the worst season ever regarding my shooting. Made no sense except that When I was in the woods, I was trying to shoot like I practiced as opposed to shooting like I was hunting. Since then I shoot enough to feel comfortable with the form, make any tweaks I need and occasionally throw an arrow. No more overly serious practice routines for me! State says "we have had reports of EHD suspected deer dying in all of those areas (Putnam/Dutchess) and collected samples for testing. Since being originally identified in Cold Spring and Goshen, the outbreak seems to have spread into southern Dutchess and other portions of Orange." Some additional unfortunate confirmation. I do wish that like cdbing suggests a more public statement would be made by DEC. Hard to believe things from the internet (no insult implied to any poster) these days or the “news” outlets. My shanks (and anyone else who thinks they are not worth the time!) usually end up in this recipe. I often debone them simply because I don’t have enough freezer space to keep the bones.
