  1. Just wondering if anyone knows about releases at cranberry or great swamp? I am actually hoping they don't release this weekend...I prefer my brittany having to work a bit
  2. I use the three arm screw in as well and like it. I screw it in as high as I can when in am set in my climber to keep it out of my way. I used to just use a hook from home depot. It's real purpose is a bath towel holder that slides on the top of the door. It fit perfectly on one of the side bars of my climber and after a little camo tape, you couldnt even see the lovely pink floral design..lol.
  3. Scary an some nasty bruise, but thnk I'd th is all. I have a summit and exclusively hunt from it and feel absolutely safe (an I have you by 60 lbs!). It's amazing how quickly bad crap can happen
  4. It's about time...I sweet my ass off today. Hope it starts knocking the leaves off as well.
  5. Specifically, were birds released at great swamp and cranberry this year? Anyone know if they are planning another release for this weekend? You won't believe me but. Am hoping they do not have one planned for this weekend to keep those places less populated. I like to hit those places after a few weeks pass from the release date...
  6. I use some old fly tying dubbing material in a film canister form wind gauge. Floats nice and not as sticky as the natural pods
  7. So glad you shared this...such a cool way to harvest some game...amazing
  8. I love hitting stocked fields well after the initial crowds shoot up the majority of birds right out of the back of the truck. I have a Brittany who is really a family dog with an amazing nose and great drive for game. He is far from polished but that is more my fault than his. I refuse to take him to stocked places until about two weeks after releases because than he can really hunt, as opposed to just get them from the truck and worry about hunters who hang close to us to get a shot at one of his finds. More times than not we pass frustrated hunters who think the birds are all gone.
  9. I'm not a bigger believer in the universe having all sorts of energies(what's it called feng sway or something), but the example given by joe12 is very true. Think about how different our bodies read when THAT deer finally comes in. We must be sending out a vibe. I, as a person who still has not killed a deer with my bow, have a real hard time controlling my jitters. That must be getting noticed. Whereas my hunting partner remains very calm now that he has killed a few deer at close range.
  10. Politics aside, is it safe to be bow hunting in woods were youth are gun hunting? If I'm in camo up a tree or worse in aground blind, I may go undetected in the "know your target and beyond" philosophy. I'm glad the hunt is happening for the kids but I know I will not be in any woods in camo as its happening.
  11. I and my partner were skunked (figuratively!) all day. Sat from dark to about noon...then from 3:00-dark. Saw ZERO deer. I am totally baffled. Cameras showed good activity and yet neither of us saw an deer all day...yikes..panic mode! Is it too late to take up golf?
  12. How about a woodchuck? aren't fischer's skinnier?
  13. great quality pics...as cool as it is to see great deer, love seeing the other habitants of the woods
  14. I don't think that is a long tail with no hair.. That's a branch on the ground IMO.
  15. Now it REALLY looks like baby bear...tailless raccoon-seems like there's the typical coon mask
  16. Rubs and scrapes have been pretty scarce in my area as well.
  17. Heres my beef with ar's..i never shot any deer with a bow yet (3 seasons). I've practiced, scouted, spent a bunch of money to equip myself and everything else. I want to harvest a deer...any deer! Is that selfish? Maybe. Is that right for the health of the deer population? Prob not. Would I hunt in an area with AR's knowing that I may need to pass on a deer that presents itself to me? NOT A CHANCE!
  18. Saw two does (mama and fawn) this am on a walk with the Mrs. in the woods in New Rochelle..westchester county...closed for hunting. These woods are loaded with suburban deer whose only predators are the cars on the parkway. Drives me crazy when I am leaving my house at 3:30am to get to my hunting and driving past a flock if deer a two minute walk away from my bed!
  19. Interesting packs since many have said they would probably not be calling/rattling this early yet many have them packed. I feel the same way yet the calls and rattles often find their way in the pack even early in the season. Occasionally even a turkey call jumps in the bag, just in case.
  20. I know it's close now...JUMPED out of bed this morning at 5:45, cursing because I overslept...oops..it's only Saturday...no going back to bed so outside for a quick early morning shoot. The Mrs. just shakes her head and asks what is wrong with you?
  21. Ok. I just use some string for the tags but have recently seen the ties used in a butt-out video to I of the pulled out section.
  22. Better have some abled-bodied well friends to haul your load. Wouldn't wan to break drs orders. I'm fired up for this year. Seen lots of activity ... Takin the day Monday ... Hope to be dining on a some fresh organic meats Monday night! Good luck to all and be safe
  23. Every year I end up with way too much crap in my backpack especially when I hunt mostly from a climber. Im trying to consolidate but have already convinced myself i need it all. What's in your pack assuming you are on a 4 hour sit?
