Gettin closer! I saw two bucks this weekend...one in velvet and one half stripped.

I take my seatbelts in ever night to keep them out of the sun. My harness on the other hand works 24/7 - 365...sounds like that warning label is more of a marketting ploy...good one too!

On a personal level, I know my small game hunting is going to be dramatically decreased due to the Oct 1st bow opener. My 8 year old Brittany is pissed. When I first got the dog, we would small game hunt most weekends until gun season opened. Then i picked up the bow and his hunts were cut down considerably due to the increase in scouting and procuring lands to bow hunt. he still had many early season hunts from October 1 to mid October. Now what? I hope the DEC will take my lack of hunting this year into consideration when they run the numbers...jk But seriously, there seems to be a push to get people small game hunting through the publications, but moving the bow opener is only going to decrease the number of small game hunters...I ain't complaining but my dog IS!

Surprisingly I have not seen any ticks on me after walkin in the woods this past weekend in 3s and 3f. Both areas ae usually loaded. Anyone having a similar experience? Do ticks have good years (low number in woods) and bad years(high numbers in woods)? Someone recently said that mild winters equals less ticks...didnt know why he thought that though

I am pleasantly surprised by your responses. I thought for sure I was gong to get a lot of "safety should be the number one priority and all packaging must be followed" - I agree but this one does not make any sense. Don't tell but I also remove that tag on couches and mattresses. Living on the edge!

I was hanging some cams yesterday and saw Bunche of acorns around. Good sign. There were many times that I stopped walking, thinking I was hearing walking deer. Turne out to be falling acorns..next best thing to walking deer

Why do safety harnesses have an expiration date? Five years after purchase it is supposed to be replaced even if it has not been thankfully deployed during a fall. I'm sure none of us on this board have done this, but do you know anyone who has ignored the expiration and used it after the date? ny chance that person needed it through a fall? How'd it hold up?

After doing some research I decided on permethrin spray to treat my hunting clothes prior to the season. When it arrived, I could smell it through the box. What's the point of scent-locking myself to have my scent lock clothing stink of chemical tick spray? If anyone has used it does the smell dissipate? How well does it prevent tiks? Is there a better product out there?

If I apply and get a tag for 3n will I automatically not get a tag for 3f because it says "none" in the column of likelihood? Or does "none" in the second colmn mean that I cannot get TWO tags in the same zone? -
Can you use your buck tag during Bow season? And my huntin partner IS a lawyer who can figure this lingo out. Can you use a bow during regular season in lands open to gun hunting?
-
I hang min in a soft bag in garage so i Can walk in grab whole thing (arrows, trigger, bowi, etc) and take outside in one trip. Other bow is hanging on a covered screw,

Are red oak acorns less desirable than white oak acorns? If we have seen what acorns, Anyone have an pics of red oak acorns?

How hard you going to hit early October mornings SZ?
crappyice replied to phade's topic in Bow Hunting
As a teacher (insert jokes about summers off, great benefits and AMAZING PAY here!) I will be hitting some of the westchester lands in the afternoons a few days a week. This is th first year i am a part of the deer management group in westchester so a bunch of new lands to work out...like cabin fever I am not a fan of the night track but the weather offers little confidence about leaving a down deer unil the next day. -
Yeah but then who drags the not so light load after a successful "rehab"

Yes that's what I meant and I agree about the shot angle. I was shocked to see some of the actual shots they were showing on whitetail...shots I would never take with a bow -
As I push pull as the bow comes up to the target ...set my kisser where I belongs then - the bad habit I hate- I close my left eye to focus through my peep. Once I feel comfortable with my hold I open my eye and allo the pin to float on target...then squeeze. I have been working on not closing one eye prior to shooting but it is a product of poor shot gunning when I first started to shoot. I still close an eye when bird hunting . just can't kick it but I'm a surprisingly good shot that way.

I was just watching some promo videos on these . Seeing them bust through plywood while other bounc off at 60 degree angle is pretty convincing and a bit unsettling for mechanical hunters -
So if fixed blades fly close to the same as field points and are more reliable than mechanicals, what is th benefit of a mechanical? I was planning on again hunting with the grim reapers from last year but I don't know if the mechanicals are worth the risk of not deploying properly.

No...mostly bow..want the mag just cause bigger is always better right!
-
My Simmons just arrived today...seems accurate and easy to use. For the price just over $100 after rebate I am happy so far. Te only him I see presenting a minor issue is the magnification(4x). Just did not feel ikeshelling out extra bucks for more mag. I'll see more in the woods.

Here's one for consideration...does it count as a robin hood if you shoot your arrow into someone else's bullseye. I just recently shot a 3D course in Westchester. It was my first time on such a course. I was shooting with two other people at the same targets so naturally there are arrows in the target prior to some of my shots. I would think that's a RH for the second shooter, leaving shooter#1 down an arrow at the good fortune of someone else. 1/2 price robin hood!

Please share th "other place" for $88 after rebate..tx
